View Full Version : [REQ] Restricted External Cam
There was a discussion in the main SH4 forum about external cam verse no external cam. Many people, including myself, expressed a desire to keep the external cam turned on but somehow restrict it's range. I recently started playing without it and while the game is more realistic I do miss the beauteful shots of my boat and surrounding waters. Is it possible for one of the talented modders on this forum to do one of two things?....
1. Make it so the external camera is disabled when enemy units are detected or come within a determined range?
or
2. Make it so the external camera can never be panned out farther than say, 30 or 40 yards from your boat (this range is debatable). This would also mean that when you switch to external cam while submerged that the camera would immediately get a view of your boat from that pre-determined range instead of starting on the surface where you can look around before bringing the camera underwater.

A more restricted free cam has been one of my pet peeves for years now.
ONLY.. i wanted it a bit more restrcted then what you suggest. I wanted it so that you could not use the camera to see what was on the surface while submerged - in other words, restrict its height as well, and confine it to the area near the player sub.
I spent alot of time on this, and nearly suceeded. In the end, i threw in the towel. My conclusion was that the camera.dat file, seems merely to define parameters, but certain aspects of cameras behavior, is defined elsewhere. I could be mistaken in that, but i tried for days and the results were marginal.

This is what I meant. Just didn't word it correctly. If you can see the surface while submerged it would defeat the whole purpose. Good to know you've tried at least. We can't have it all.
Self discipline is hard when SH4 has created such a great engine to view the environment with. For the time being I'll press on....cooped up in my sub....not knowing what the hell is going out outside.

And the f...ing good mods outside make it even harder ;)

While I was playtesting the soon-to-arrive Pacific Enviroments 2, I had to play a few missions with that mod disabled (the damn Special Effects are putting up a fight!); I thought I had accidentally dropped a bottle of bleech on the monitor! Once you've ran one of those mods, there's no turning back... :yep:
