View Full Version : [TEC] Duplicate ZON File

Say you wanted to make one ship's ZON file have the same characteristics as another ship's ZON file. Can you simple copy the desired file over to the desired ship's directory, and rename it appropriately?
I ask because I'm stupid/stubborn enough to be running NSM4 with 1.5. I've got a beautiful set up on a CL Tenryu, which doesn't have a NSM ZON file. The Tenryu appears to be very similiar to the Kuma, if I remember right... so I'd love to just copy the Kuma's ZON file over to the Tenryu's directory (in an inactive NSM JSGME mod), rename it, and reenable NSM. Of course, the final step would be to sink it .
I've already tried to sink it... put four neat fish right into the side of her, spaced out by a good bit. Each fish hit, exploded... and the Tenryu sailed right on, rightly angered. I'm not a big fan of this behavior.

In short, no.
In the ships folder, will be several files that are all related to eachother. Zon Sim Dat etc..
Open the ship folder with S3D and it will display the files in question. These files need to have related ID maps. If you put a file from one folder into another then rename it, you will get a CTD when the ship is called. The best tip I got for testing this was to use the 'Museum' (Thanks Lurker). If you select the ship in there after you make changes, and it CTD's, you know you did something wrong.
Is the Tenryu and intoduced ship?
If it isn't. you could take the original zon file from it standard SH4 folder and merely add it to your JSGME folder. Then modify it from there.
I will monitor this post in case you deliver more information or have specific questions.

In short, no... These files need to have related ID maps.
I've been poking my attention over the shoulder of the modders on here often enough where I worried about that. When I used S3d to examine the ZON file, I couldn't see anything that would lead me to that conclusion, so I figured I'd ask. And now I know ;).
I know how you modders feel, now... I assume the Tenryu is a new ship introduced by 1.5, simply 'cause NSM4 does not have a modded ZON file for it. The pics listed in the Identification book for the Tenryu and the Kuma are the same... so I simply assumed the ships were visually identical (or close to it). A quick Google search later, and I find that Acepilots.com has information on both of these ships. Of course, the Tenryu (http://www.acepilots.com/ships/tenryu.html) and Kuma (http://www.acepilots.com/ships/kuma.html) are similiar... but they're quite a bit different, too. They both have three stacks, but the superstructure, gun placements, and existence of a "seaplane rail" (what's the proper term?) differ.
So... the next itch to scratch after getting the ZON file compatible with NSM would be to fix either the model itself (if it's not correct), or the ID book entry. One thing leads to another...
But there's a 4 knot wind outside right now, and the radio control model aircraft hanging on the wall is calling for me. I'll wait for a rainy day or when it's dark. :nope:
Thanks, too, Mikhayl (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=238150)... I'll end up using that info to correct the ZON file, hopefully by matching it to a similiar ship.
