View Full Version : Looking for an ace modder to take over the SH4 Scene!
Well after a long haul with the SH4 Scene.dat I must say that it has a few problems still that need to be ironed out but I have lost interest and would like to move on!:yep:
Is there a charasmatic modder that is willing to take on the job, I do feel that there is a lot that can be done to improve it.:D I would like work to continue on both the 8k & 16k versions, any files relating to this will be supplied.:yep:
Cheers.
Due to the overwhelming response! I will withdraw the offer & carry on after a short rest!:yep:

Now that is truly a surprise to my eyes, Reece!
Not a single, qualified soul came forward?
Heck, I'd love to carry the burden for you, Reece, except my knowledge of SH3 modding is summed up in two volumes titled "Diddly" and "Squat".
I wish there was a sub-forum or sticky for those who want to learn the finer points of SH3's file structures, modding techniques, and modding tools to have lessons and tutorials from all of you talented veterans. :know:
Take a break if you need to, Reece. You've definitely earned it! :yep:
Thanks guys, I had a big rest - 1 day - back to work!

Actually I know squat too when it comes to serious modding and I'm too lazy at the moment to learn hex editing. I'm hoping Silent 3ditor from skwas is going to be finished soon. Glad your back Reece.

Hi Reece,
This is an area I know nothing about. I'm sorry I'm unable to help. As soon as I saw the word "Ace Modder" in your title, I knew that counted me out :damn: :rotfl:
Can you explain what your trying to achieve so I can further my knowledge in this area :hmm:

Im starting to mess around with scene files now, never did it before. But why don't you talk to OLC? Im pretty sure he knows more about scene.dat then anyone of us, and I think he might be interested!
I'm already getting help from OLC Philipp!:yep: He is not interested in the SH4 scene, understandably, since he has his version of the SH3 scene done, also there are quite a few differences that make either unique, also some of the problems require quite a lot of time hex editing etc, gets ya down sometimes! But I'm back on again!:yep:

I like your scene very freaking much, everything is soooo beautiful and full of collors. I just don't know if its realistic. OLC's scene seems to be very realistic. I really don't know which to choose when playing. Sometimes I enable one, sometimes the other.
Tell me, since you're porting SH4 stuff into SH3, did you find a way to make the water transparent like in SH4? It's probably hardcoded, right... :damn:

G'day Reece,
You need more than one break to clean your healthy brain before you start digging in or you are gunna hit your head into a concrete blockwall :damn:, and if you need help always ask the Grand Mod Master who that person might be do give you a hand:()1: :hmm: or has he been drinking again.
NEVER give up with your great work of mod ART! do you understand my aussie language  or shall I give you a glass of VB

Hi Reece
I wonder if your use of the words 'ace' and 'charismatic' were perceived as a little too daunting for some people
@SpeedyPC
I shouldn't bother sending your CV to Bletchley Park ;)

I'll put my hand, up it was me, I confess, I'm sorry, I freaked out. Cold sweat, flushes, clammy feeling & vomiting
Well, my father used to say: "The best things you will get in life are those done by yourself and for yourself" Carry on mate, you have done impressive work so far

I agree.
Your work is one of the best I've seen. Sea and sky looks so real like I should be in the U-boot bridge.
If your mod can be improved, excellent! Take you time!

Besides, after seeing how your SH4 Scene mod would change in someone else's hands, Reeece, you'd probably rise up to throttle them with their own ethernet cable and take your mod back by force! :rotfl:
Asking someone else to take up work on your mod would be like Pope Julius II asking DaVinci to complete the Sistine Chapel in Michelangelo's stead!
Or Hershey's having their chocolate made by Nestle!
Or Ford making the Corvette!
Or GWX for SH4! :p
Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement guys, a part of me was glad that no one took the offer & yes I probably scared a few people off with my requirements, it was just that I didn't want it to sit there & stagnate!
As it turns out I gave in to old fears and installed .NET & S3D, and found the old versions are corrupted, soon to remedied, & then after a few more mods will re-release, a little learning requred though to get used to this new tool.:D

From my understanding of what other modders have had to say about S3D, it's a revolution that will have you creating mods with far more ease than before and even ambitious mods have been cut down to size with S3D's capabilities.
I know it made merging Racerboy's U-boat Exhaust Smoke and NvDrifter's Longer Wakes a real breeze, even if all it involved was porting numbers from one .val file to the other.
Now, if only skwas will eventually implement editing and adding animations in S3D. Then maybe someone can work out a flags and pennants mod that lets you lower/raise the flag and hang pennants without leaving the game. :hmm:
It's independent modders like you, OLC, Philipp Thomsen, Albrecht von Hesse, Mikhayl, and Rubini that really inspire me the most, Reece! :yep:

Though I have never experienced it myself (knocking on wood, throwing salt over shoulder, spitting on a cat etc. ) I can't help think, if this is somehow related to people's crashing and/or saved games bugs? :hmm:
Good to hear you're going over to S3D! One tool rules them all!
Thanks to skwas & his excellent S3D tool the problem has been fixed and new versions with new textures etc will be released soon, I am taking the weekend off!:yep:
Cheers.
