hi all,
i've been thinking about compiling a mod pack that intends to fix alot of bugs/mechanical (prop rotation as an ex) issues included in SH4 1.5. not neccesiarily change any graphics/sound/gameplay, just things that ubisoft left unaddressed. what i hope to do by that is to make SH4 a more solid and cohesive game to play. maybe add some features that should been present. i'd like to think of SH2 as a possible classical reference, because i remember playing that and that was a great, devloped game. so everyone, what irks you everytime you play the game? i'll try and keep this list updated. remember.. the idea is to perserve sh4 in it's stock nature, but fix what needs to be fixed. don't be afriad to be nitpicky! ubisoft wasn't.

mods already created to possibly include:
-anvart's prop rotation fix
-anvart's missing gato dials fix
-anvart's torpedo bomber fix
-capt'nscurvy's stock mast height correction
-wernersobe's natural sinking mechanics. (sh2 featured more realistic sinking -mechanics)
-4-blade prop fix (with midnite1977's brass retexturing)
- ROW slower clouds

issues to address:
-the riding on rails/pitch and roll problem
-i'd personally like to able to not have to erase my waypoints on the navigation map -and plot another course to intercept sonar contacts.
-sinking ship sounds on hydrophone
- missing damage sounds/speech
-lack of caustic effects on all parts of the sub.
- torpedo wakes immediately dissappearing after impact.
-land warnings
- water jiggling
- lifeguard duty

Hey I really applaud your "go for it" spirit, but, before you start working on yet another mega-mod, you might want to go through the RFB, TM and RSRD threads a bit. A whole lot of what you wish to accomplish is already being worked on...

Other mods, mostly graphics oriented, are W_Clear's Enviroment and Kriller2 Pacific and ROW enhancements...

You might even consider getting Skwasjer's S3D and helping with some already established mods... like fixing the prop rotation and disappearing wakes for instance...

Good luck with whatever you pursue!

hey deep iron! thanks for replying
i have looked at those mods, but the difference between those mods and what i'm imagining, is that those mods significantly alter the gameplay (in terms of difficulty and ai sensor tweaks) i think even TM might include some graphical changes. but we'll see. i'm gonna see if i can do anything myself as well, as you suggested. t

thanks!

Hi Misfit,

Is the goal here to provide a large combi mod that will fix bugs without changing the gameplay?

like fixing the prop rotation and disappearing wakes for instance...

I didn't even know that was a problem. I swear I am the most unobservant person ever. I have an idea what's causing that and may be able to fix it, if no one else is working on it.

EDIT: I was typing this as you were answering the question I was going to ask Misfit :D .
