Get it here:
(EDIT: You might want to try the ROW or TM versions for now. I hear they are more complete.)

This is currently version .9 beta. There is one known issue I could use help with. This is listed under Known Issues in the readme:

1st Person Walkthrough Cameras 0.9 beta

For Silent Hunter 4, Uboat expansion, version 1.5

This mod allows you to walk around instead of having your feet nailed to the floor. It changes the camera views for the Command Room(Interior Fore), Conning Tower, Bridge and Interior Aft to allow free unrestricted movement around your sub and still have that nifty swaying motion.

Installation: JSGME compliant. This mod replaces data\library\cameras.dat and data\cfg\commands.cfg If you do not want to replace command.cfg(and I can't say I blame you), you can simply go to your favourite commands.cfg file and alter these lines:

[Cmd92]
Name=Move_forward
Ctxt=1,2,3,5,9,11
Key0=0x26,R,"" <---Replace this line with Key0=0x47,R,"G"
Key1=0x26,Rc,""

AND

[Cmd94]
Name=Move_backward
Ctxt=1,2,3,5,9,11
Key0=0x28,R,"" <----Replace this line with Key0=0x48,R,"H"
Key1=0x28,Rc,""

You may replace "G" and "H" with whatever you want, just get the keycode right. I used "G" and "H" because they were not used with the default commands.cfg file.

USE: Use "G" and "H" to move the camera forward and back. You will also need to use these keys for any other cameras that use forward and back. The "<" and ">" are the only other views I know of that use this.

Known Issues:
The camera origins for the Command Room and Interior Aft are anchored in place, meaning they rotate around their starting position. The farther you move away from this position, the wider the circle you turn around in. If anyone knows of how to fix this, please let me know.

SH4 uses 'Move_Forward' and 'Move_backward' for a few different functions, including rotating camera views, thus the change to commands.cfg.

Special thanks to Skwasjer for the most excellent Silent 3ditor program and for his help in getting this mod this far.
Special thanks to all the other modders out there! Without you, we'd all be playing subpar games!
And a special thanks to subsim.com for being a great place to hang out and talk about substuff!

And no, there are no screenies for this mod. Use your imagination! :p

Nice work :up:

I remember with the ROW camera mod you could just roam free with the standard keyboard controls though.

As far as that issue, you can try enabling free move for those compartments as well. Have a look at some of the other camera's that have a FreeMove controller for an idea of how that works.

Where is that mod? I've looked for it and never could find it. Does it enable free roaming for more than the bridge view?

could you make it clip so you can't get "out of the sector"??

Yes, the interior as well. I am not saying that cameras-file is perfect nor do I know if it is 1.5 proof. I also remember one odd thing in that file, but I may be wrong. Check it out...

The stock camera, using Shift-F2, allows you to roam in the control room and even the conning tower if you don't mind floating through the control room wall like Casper.

True, but it doesn't have the ship swaying, and you can't click on anything ;)

I want to. Some of the attempts I've made towards this end have been fruitless. The cameras.dat file is very much an enigma to me. You make changes such as adding a collision detect chunk to a camera, and it does nothing in-game. Weird stuff. I haven't put too much testing into collision dectection yet, considering most captains know better than to try to walk through the walls of thier subs. :lol:

I'm hoping we can all put our heads together and get everything squared away, because being able to walk around on the ship has been my and many others dream for a long time now.

Are you sure it lets you walk around? It doesn't seem to say anything about that...

Yep it does let you walk, or more correctly hover, around. TMaru has also had this feature for quite a long time.

It amazes me that it's never been advertised. At least not that I've seen...:hmm:

The only one I'd ever seen was by Sergbuto, and that was only for the outside bridge.

And we are all sure this is not the shift-F2 free camera, right?

Actually, the cameras of ROW and TMaru are (were?) pretty similar. Didn't find many differences when switching from one to the other.
With regards to your question: yep, 100% sure. Just make sure to click on a not-interactive area to get rid of the mouse cursor, and then roam around with your arrow keys.

Well, that's just depressing. I worked my ass off for days to come up with something I thought was new and innovative, and that alot of people were wanting, only to find it's been done and no-one bothered to mention it. :cry:

I guess maybe I'll just go eat worms....

I didn't fully realise what you were after. I thought you were trying to give it your own spin... Otherwise, I would have stopped you earlier. :-?

Bah! I was very obscure about what I was doing cause I wanted to keep it a secret untill the majestic grand opening release of the greatest mod ever!!!

I hate it when I do that.....:damn:

Thwarted by my own cleverness again!!! :rotfl:
