Hi All,

Sound Gurus?

Is there a sound file for for the sub bow hitting the water?

Would be nice to hear.

I'm someone who strongly believes that storm and the like has always been underestimated too much regarding the immersion factor in a subsim, as well as the sub damages rendition/management...

And in SH4 ,the waves, especially during storms and how the subs react to them could even be considered a major step backward since, yes, SH2!!!
i.e in SH2, the boats tilts & moves ACCORDING to each 3D wave and not randomly or following some kind of predifined looping animation...

Now that being said, there was never a bow hitting sound in neither of SHs.
I don't know if it's possible, since there doesn't seem to be any above/underwater test controller that you could use to trigger a sound.

The problem is, i don't even know how one can trigger a sound according to any given event in SH4. It's not as simple as if it could be scrippted like in some sort of Basic program (i.e IF...THEN...).

The second problem is the above/under controller. If this exist, then their might be a way, some kind of workaround:
Inside the sub .dat file, create some kind of unviewable dummy 3d objet right below the bow and attach it this above/under test controller should it exist.
Then use it to trigger a sound.

I believe such a test controller exist, since for example when diving, at a certain depth your crew will suddenly disappear. There as to be something that test this. However, i'm not sure at all this could be reached by modders. It might very well be hardcoded

Might be doable, the existense of this controller is the real problem.
This issue you raised is nevertheless very interesting
I'll try and have a look at it ;)

Regards mate

Thanks Kapitan,

That was a very in depth explanation.....I didn't think there existed a sound file for it....but there is a sound that is there that reminds of the bow "slapping"...sort of a "hollow" sound... mabe the wind in high seas.

Well good luck in find something that works. It's guys like you that make this sim great! (Dave - others)

It's always good to hear people cheers for works we involved much time in :smug:
If there wasn't people like that in subsim.com, that says they likes our mods and why and "forces" to raise the bar instead of simply downloads and logs out, we wouldn't be as motivated

The sound itself is not a problem as one could quite easily be created, using Soundforge for example. It's more like you have to "code" a new event for the game to manage "from scratch" so to speak. It's not just moddifying/improve something, it's creating a new behavior.

i'm currently having a look though as i like the idea very much eheh :smug:

mmm... i think i found the controller or at least something i could use as it.
Now the problem is, how the hell sounds are triggered to play???
I've got the structure in wich a sound is brought into the game but not the way to play it when something happens. I.e how to link sound A to event B
