I'm trying to install some mods and its just not working for me. I installed the Mod Enabler in the root folder and then the MODS folder in the Data folder.

I then tried to extract a mod into the MODS folder and got this.

! C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\Pacific_Environments_2.7z: Cannot open Pacific Environments 2\Install_PE2\Data\Shaders\Clouds\CloudsPS.inc
! C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\Pacific_Environments_2.7z: Cannot open Pacific Environments 2\Install_PE2\Data\Shaders\Clouds\CloudsPS_20.inc
! C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\Pacific_Environments_2.7z: Cannot open Pacific Environments 2\Install_PE2\Data\Shaders\LightShafts\common.inc

I got that same message for every file in the mod. HELP!!

Not sure about " MODS folder in the Data folder."

You should simnply put JSGME.exe into the root directory of SH4. Then run it (double-click). That will create the Mod folder and the backups.

Then you just move/copy the mods you want in to the Mods folder - ensuring that they are in the correct format ( e.g. nested folders within a "data" folder.)

Once the mods are in the Mods Folder, re-run JSGME.exe and use the small screen to activate them - just highlight and move to the right-hand column.)

Then run SH4.

Yeah, this process :yep:

Yeah, I read the instructions and it said to run the exe and it would make a mods folder. . . it didnt. So I made one myself first in the root folder and then moved it to the data folder. Neither one worked.

I am running Vista.

I got the folder to work, now the mods show up in the Mod Enabler but when I try to load the game I get a "Menu ID not found" error.

Don't enable all of them all at once. Enable them ONE AT A TIME. Start the game see if works, exit the game, enable the next mod. When the game gives you that error ... "Menu ID blah, blah", that is the one you will have to do without.

ok, I did that and its the Warships Retextured and the Pacific Environments mods that dont work. Now the question is, why is it not working? It has to have worked for someone out there, so why isnt it working for me?

In Vista after installing JSGME just run it once and the MOD folder will appear.

The Menu ID error is a MOD not compatible with the version of SH4 you are running, disable this mod and seek a solution.

But both Mods that dont work say they are compatible with my version. Which is v1.4

Hi Darkranger, PE 2 includes the mod "Warships Retextured", so try uninstalling that before you enable PE 2 and it should work, you will still get the retextured warships.

DarkRanger85,

Did you install the game in the "Programs File" folder. If you did, the vista security
protocols will not allow you to make changes unless you run everything in Administrator
mode.

My suggestion would be to uninstall SH4 and reinstall the game in a folder not in
the "Programs File" folder. This way you will bypass the security protocols. Install the
game in "Games" folder or something like that.

ok, I tried that. I reinstalled it to C:/Games and reinstalled the Mod Enabler and everything. . . Still get the menu ID error.

All the little trivial ones work fine like the range thing on the map, dark manual, and stuff like that. But any of the good ones I really want dont work.

I desperatly want NSM4 to work, its the main mod I want and its giving me the error.

I REALLLLY hope that someone can help me fix this.

@RDP, I'm sure that you can appreciate that I am not resourced to fault fix every mod that players attempt to install via JSGME. Sure, I'll support problems *with* JSGME itself, but I simply can't support general mod compatibility and usage problems - I mean, how many mods are out there? 1,000s? As it is my inbox gets full of users asking how to use mod "xyz" or whatever and these are mods for games that I've never even heard of!

Mod compatibility problems need to be referred to the relevant mod developer(s). They are responsible for what they release.

In this instance, however, I think the problem is simply compatibility - between the user and Vista.

I was more referring to the JSGME set-up then mod compatability, thought you should have a look see just to see if it was anything JSGME related. The lad had it installed wrong, etc.

I can appreciate what you are saying above, anybody expecting that is not right in the head.

So does that mean that I simply wont be able to use this mod on Vista? :-(

Have you tried disabling all mods except NSM4 and seeing if you still have the problem? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think NSM touches anything that would cause a menuID problem.

I think you're correct. NSM doesn't touch the gui or any menu in any way. Aren't the menuID problems caused by erroneous entries in menu_1024_768.ini? At least I remember seeing lots of complaints about that when SH4 1.5 was published and people were trying to run mods made for 1.4 on it.

That's what I was thinking, too. The only menuID errors I ever remember seeing were when the menu.ini was modded and/or the mod was for a different version of the game.

I read: All the little trivial ones work fine like the range thing on the map, dark manual, and stuff like that. But any of the good ones I really want dont work. and assumed it was installed correctly. I also note DR85 reinstalled SH4 outside of Program Files, thus overcoming the UAC.

So, assuming, and providing, he re-extracted the mods into the new MODS folder, everything JSGME related should be OK. If, however, he simply moved the mods from the old MODS folder installation to the new one, there's his problem. In this case he needs to delete all mods from the new MODS folder and re-extract the mods directly to it to ensure that all files are correctly extracted (his error messages in his first post leads me down this path).

But even going back further, what's not stated explicitly here is whether his installation sans all mods both a) works fine and b) is indeed patched to v1.4. This should be confirmed first. Further, DR85 hasn't posted a list of all mods he has enabled. A menu ID error is guaranteed to be the result of incompatible or conflicting mods.

ok, my game is v1.4 and these are the Mods I was attempting to run.

Dark Rec Manual
NSM
Hi Def Dials
Hi Def interiors
75% smaller chrono

Dark Rec Manual, Dials, and Interiors all worked fine.

Also, you are correct I did move the MODS directly from the old folder, I'm attempting a fresh extract now. I'll let ya know what happens.

Alrighty! I tried a fresh install of the game, patched it to 1.4 again and then put the Mod Enabler on and extracted a fresh copy of NSM into the MODS folder and it works perfectly now.

Thank you guys for your patiance and assistance! I really think that this forum has some of the most helpful people I've seen on a single forum in a while!
