Wreford-Brown; what editor are you using, Notepad? :dead:
You have mistakes in timers and tab-spacing just like emaluzer did with his rel.
IMO these should be corrected before you release the work.

This is an excellent idea Wreford-Brown and you deserve credit for taking this on.

But I think a word of warning is necessary here!

Finishing this mod is going to be a lork of work. But do you realize you will have to do it again every time the GWX campaign changes? Same problem with other campaigns and people who use small mods for GWX which change campaign data.

To make it brief, you will be in version hell. If the radio messages are not 100% in sync with the campaign data, they will do more harm than good. And the cp data are changing all the time, I guess even the GWX team would not know every small change that is happening.

Thats why I have several times suggested to rather think about a program that creates detailed radio messages automatically - following a programmatic analysis of the campaign data. Only then people will still use this mod in 1 or two years, only then you need not work on it for the rest of your life.

I know this is probably out of your depth if you're not a programmer. But maybe it would be a good idea to think about my warning and try to team up with other people who have the knowledge required. Because as I said above, otherwise your work might be mostly in vain.

Hope you see this as what it is - a warning by someone who has some experience with this kind of problem - and not as critcism of your work in any way.

In order to help the creators of such mods, I also suggested that all campaign editors provide meta data of some kind. I discussed this with Rubini 2 years ago for his harbor traffic, and I remember he understood my suggestion very well, but I guess we were both already to burned out on SHIII to make any more steps in this direction.

It's too late now for SHIII, but as a further suggestion for modding SHIV and other games: think about adding meta data to the campaign files that describe what you have changed and what this means in the historic context. Ideally of course would be a common standard that everyone agrees on and that could be understood by external programs (SH3Cmdr, Sh3Gen etc).

WIP

I have started with just translating the english message.txt...
hard work....

right now I have realized that I ould copy the appropriate lins from the german message.txt and only translate the new ones.

But please... give me some time. after 1h of translation I am at only/have done ~5% of the whole file :damn: so far

and working in this unformated file is giving me headaches...

but I promise it will be done.

Well none of the historical scripts have changed in 2.1
And no more added

And as the only changes I will ever be making after 2.1 are to include new ships - 2.1 WILL be the last GWX team release for SH3 , not saying there wont be releases by team members but unless they need anything in the campaign adding then Wreford-Brown is good to go for a long time

@danurve - You've pointed out a number of minor errors in my work  - none of them should effect gameplay or cause problems, but messages may be date/time incorrect. Let me work on this for a few days and see what I can sort out.

@GlobalExplorer - I am aware that I will need to adjust this mod every time a new mission is added by GWX, but the dates and times are based on RL dates and times rather than being drawn from the game engine. As such, they should place players in about the right location at around the right time. It's not meant to be a spy satellite mod. I don't see GWX withdrawing any missions, and as they have stated that 2.1 will be the final release, I'm hoping to minimise the amount of extra work to be done when 2.1 is released. I'm not a programmer, and as such the mod I've produced is a distillation of what you would like to achieve. At the same time, it should work for most (if not all) users.

@Grayson02 - Can you please hold off on your translations for a few days. The messages will remain the same, it's just the date/time groups that need a bit of work. You should only need to translate the 109 messages in the WB radio messages log - the rest are standard GWX. A lot of my messages are similar to one another which should minimise the translation work. Once you've completed your work (and once mine is up to scratch), can you host mine alongside yours to give people a more complete mod?

@everyone - I'm a first time modder and as such am taking advice from far more experienced modders elsewhere, especially danurve. I'm withdrawing the mod for a few days, and apologies to anyone that I've annoyed by a premature release.

Give me a chance, please. Everyone starts somewhere.

I just reached the message
"19390930 2100 19390930 2300 1 30 20 @U-35@^BdU^|1939/09/26|ONE WEEK IN THE AREA PORTLAND, CASQUETS, DIEPPE, HASTINGS. VERY STRONG AIR PATROL. SM'S AND SMALL SURFACE CRAFT, NO LARGE WARSHIPS, TRANSPORTS OR CONVOYS. HEAVY SINGLE SHIP TRAFFIC OFF THE ENGLISH COAST. LITTLE TRAFFIC OFF THE FRENCH COAST, INCLUDING LE HARVE. IMPOSSIBLE TO ACT ACCORDING TO PRIZE LAW BECAUSE OF PATROL VESSELS."

so... I'll let it be. This translating within the txt file really is hard... I never had such a "head"... ache.... :dead:

ok...

Just shoot me pm when you are ready with the new datas and I will adjust my so far donw translations and continue.
As I said... it will take time!

I'll take a look at your txt... once the data is fixed send it to me and I'll do the translation... you can put it together then... maybe?

--- update --

I just took a look at the txts a bit closer.... esspecially the sizes.... ouch.

the German file is...well... bigger...
and the newer english file, too.

ok ok ok...

all engines full stop.

Just shoot me a PM when your new files and datas are ready and I'll start the translation completly new as I just realized that my translations can not matc up with the original German messages...

But I promise I'll do it.

Wreford-Brown; Correct they won't affect gameplay other then the message might not be seen or skipped - incomplete from a timer date/interval error. These logs are after all text. Out of habit I have gone through your added messages and made corrective improvements (109 lines total) without altering any of the message content. At the end of the file I can jot down exactly what was done. If you like I can send you this file to look over. I don't consider myself a serious modder. But I'll admit to knowing my way through the radiolog.

Expanded not only adds thousands of messages it makes an attempt to improve the dates/intervals/format (etc) of prior, original and added messages. I don't plan to release a 'light version' of it. Seems to me it defeats the purpose. But when I was asked to have lines from Expanded included I figgured that would be fine. Turned around and saw releases of the older unimproved lines. So no I guess I wasn't enthused. But as mentioned before either version, from stock, to 2006_Final, Expanded, or a log from GWX this is not a game critical mod. IMO what ever version should be as good as it can within reason, yes? And so if you guys want to release a light version tuned for GWX I'm sure it's workable.

I've corrected the syntax issues in my new (109) messages and am currently going through the GWX ones. It's nice to know that there are only syntax/typing issues in my original release that shouldn't effect gameplay, but if a job's worth doing it's worth doing well.

I've checked my log against yours and there are 16 duplicated messages (don't ask how long it took to go through your messages!). With your permission, I'll add another readme that tells people what the 16 duplicated messages are. This would then allow them to receive all of our messages without duplication so they could enjoy your realism mod (that got me into this in the first place!) whilst also receiving mission orders to take part in the major battles.

If you'd like to check out my mod before general release, PM me. I'd appreciate your input.

Jus downloaded the new and redone txt from WB's file and will start translation asap.

Problem is: time is something I do not have much right now... so please be patient.
It will be done.
109 "sentences" are not much yet need to be done.
