If you want your target to show torpedo damage set your torpedoes to contact and run them a minimum depth..High speed for good weather and low speed for rough weather...:D

from what I noticed

high speed to get torp detected - target changing direction and warships pinpoint your sub

low speed to get torp undetected - target not changing direction and warships go crazy looking for a possible sub.

depending on the ships some do show damage others dont. But damage is implicit even on those that don't show damage on the screen.
