Hi all

Just a post for anyone interested in this small project I am hacking at,

So far, 22 screens are modified ,

one sub type UB-I with several turms is working quite well, Working on the second (U-31 class) but the hull crashes the load program, it is less polys than the original it replaces but not working, all other parts are fine and all import easly.

Zeppelins fly the sky again, as do those pesky float planes

Prussian awards insignia are up and working, trying to find the file so as to seperate them into 9 awards, the Knights Cross just uses overlays pics on the same location for the oak leaves and each other step, wanting to seperate them ,

Importing other wwi ships is making progress, 3 freighters,1 DD, have not reconfigured the DC yet,130 lb and 300 lb charges,

Year starts correctly in Aug 1914 not sure yet how to stop it in 1918.

things yet to do:
next is 2 more sub classes,
then 4 Uboat bases,
Austrian awards,
Tons and tons of little adjustments.

Play will start as You taking control of a UB-I to start,, as you get better, you are granted new commissions, and move up in boat types.

Play tested so far, yes, after 6 to 8 patrols you can earn the "kaisers photo"(Knights cross) But this game is not for those long range shooters, it is up close and personnal, using g7a types and worse, at close range, and accuracy, stealth, and close range (40yds) is everything when you only carriy 2 torpedos.

if you shoot from 1000 yds in the day,, you will usually miss

tyring to decide to keep the targeting "cheat" in and make it totally manual or not,

Any input is desired, noting in this is set in stone

How about some screenies? Sounds good to me.
Kind regards

 I would also like screenshots. This is great news, since Daemon may not finish his sim for a while and the other person who was making a WWI sim gave it up.

I think a couple of features would really help the WWI ambience:

-Huge minefields in the waters around Britain

-Lots of unescorted shipping throughout much of the war

-Troop convoys to the major battlefields at historical dates (for instance, Gallipoli in 1915 & cross-channel to the Western Front in 1914)

-Very limited depth charge load on escorts

-Numerous small trawlers & patrol craft as escorts

-A decent number of WWI era warships.

-Sailing ships in the merchant fleet

-Q-Ships sailing under false flags.

-Dazzle paint on British ships

Would you like help or is this more of a solo project? Also, is there any chance at all of a British campaign?

If you want help, let me know if there are any particular merchant ships you would like and I will try to make them. I am not good w/warships but I can try. Also, I can help out with interface screens and campaign layers if necessary.

I'd love to have a WWI U-boat simulation based on the SH3 engine.

Glad to see that you got the start date working well. Re the end date, assuming that you've ended all Flotillas in Flotilla.cfg at Nov 1918, what happens in Dec 1918?

I'm fairly certain that you won't be able to end the war in 1918 the way that SH3 does in 1945 ("The war is over!") - I've never found any data element anywhere that has a 7 May 1945 value, so I am guessing it's hard coded.

But that may work out well. With a crafty segue players could continue their career through to either the Spanish Civil War, or even WWII.

Sea Tiger, I've read in other threads that models crashing SH3 is usually caused by a polygon face being inverted. The SH3 engine craps out when this happens as it doesn't know how to render the inverted face in the model.

Sometimes this happens when exporting/converting/importing models. All those steps involved can have unintended consequences due to the software used.

Hi

Still alive and well,

Thans to some expert help, (meaining not me who did it) The zeebrugge ports are in as are the cidatels bunkers. qships operate and yes, they will eat your lunch if not careful. 3 U-boat types are operational, 4 other U-boat models are made.
There will be two versions, Austria and German, but not possible to have both in the same version due to Medals. In the Austria version, targets are slim pickings though, just like real life.
In the middle of a move right now, so progress is slow.
US Vessels, like the USS Texas with her wonderful cage masts enter in 1917,, right on schedule,, however, due to hard programing,, the war goes until 1945. still working on overcoming this somehow.
One very major issue I cannot seem to overcome. I am building this to work in SHII mod 4 vanilla version. On some other testers computers the additional subs will work just fine when replaced in the vii and ix folders. sadly, for some unknown reason, in mine it crashes the computer on loading. This has been a long term issue I have not been able to overcome.

Maybe it is possible to show us some screenies?

This sounds really good, but what a monster job, all the ships, campaigns, flotillas etc, well take you time, a job worth doing ...!:yep:
But lets face it, it took years for GWX team to produce the Grey Wolves mod for SH3, based on what the game was designed for ... WW2, let alone WW1!
All I can say is:
Good luck!:D

There must be some difference compared to the other systems, ram, video card, Service pack etc, did you try a clean install? Also suggest using JSGME so that you can remove a mod at a time to nail the problem one down.:-?

Hi ST...I noticed in your post of two days ago you said qships operate and yes, they will eat your lunch if not careful

Would you check out my thread at:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=138229

....and let me know if we are using similar or the same vessels as a base :hmm:

Hi Gents!

An WWI-mod for SHIII sounds great! Will be a real mammouth-project creating
lot of new vessels, careers and submarines.

I would love to see the first pics of this mod!!!

Really a great thing!

Especially engaging sail-ships will be a very fine thing!:up::up:

Also the K.u.K. camppaign sounds very interesting. Fighting in the
adriatic sea against Italy will be a very interesting item.

BTW: The UB boats UB1 - UB 16 could be transported by rail.

Looking forward for the realisation!

Great to hear. I agree that you should check to see if there is a certain mod on your computer that is causing the problem with the VII/IX replacements.

If you somehow figure out a way to incorporate the prize rules, I'll be in your debt forever!

Hi

Using a slightly different process than yours. I took the british .3pdr converted it to have sides on three sides, left, riight and back of gun, no top. The gun faces the main superstructure. I reduced the range of the guns to 300 yds. Once the sub is within 300 yds, it will slew to fire. when you see that box turn, time to dive as the shells are enhanced to sink you in 3 to 5 hits, 1 or 2 if they get lucky.

In about 3 to 4 weeks I will post pics so you can see what I mean. I am in the middle of a move right now, so construction is slowing.

Say,, anyone have good plans to KUK U-14?
