I've been fiddling with the "Visual range factor" in the Sensors.cfg to give me a more realistic view, but it doesn't seem to help when aircraft are involved. I don't want my crew or sensors to see too far but I like them to be able to see the smoke on the horizon. The question is, Is there another setting that can help in detecting aircraft an a farther distance....

I've DL the mod an played 1 patrol an found no improvement as to how the AI crew detects aircraft. I think it has something to do how the game spawns the aircraft. I think the aircraft are spawned too close to the sub an the game engine doesn't catch up till it's too late.

You didn't mention the TC you are using. If it's set too high, game might not recognize aircraft until they're much closer to you. IIRC, the lower the TC, the more realistic the detection. I use this mod and crew has no problem detecting aircraft.

I know at high TC one will get hammered by either aircraft or DD but I usually don't run over 128/64 ( DayTime ) when Im within alied aircover. Early war...

Patrolling E. of Scapa Flow, stalking shipping coming 'round the islands, I was jumped by 2 fighters. As I came out of TC I immediately crashed dived an started turning to give the aircraft less of a target. I just made it to PD b4 the bombs hit. Luckily they missed.
