View Full Version : [REL] New Merchant-Generic Steamer #11

Here's a new merchant ship to add some diversity to the shipping. It's a British steam merchant of 3,000 tons. This is not a historical unit; rather, a generic freighter that's broadly representative of WWI-1920's era vessels. It supports symmetrical logos and text. Six skins are included.
Installation should be very easy, but please take a look at the README, especially if you're inexperienced with mods.
Merchant Fleed Mod beta testers - note that this ship replaces M11B (even though the folder name is slightly different). Delete M11B if you want to install it.

Hi, i am totally new to installing mods, although i have managed to install GWX 2.0, SH3Cmdr27 and the JSGME, and thanks to everybody that was involved in these, i am loving it. I found SH3 by chance around 6 months ago searching on the net for shipping related articles, I was so impressed I went out and had a gaming computer built and use it as a stand alone just for SH3. Merchants of the 1900s to the late 50s really interest me so the upcoming Merchant fleet mod by Iambecomelife is really up my street. I have downloaded the file on to my memory stick (RAR file) to transfer to my SH3 computer but could not see the read me, and as everything is stable and working fine I don’t want to muck anything up, any helpful souls out there can point me in the right direction, cheers.

Here's a new merchant ship to add some diversity to the shipping.
There's a few things that I really like about this ship;
I like the mat colour scheme with the old rusty look, and
I like the writing on the side of the ship, very authentic.Excellent addition.

OK. First of all, have you downloaded winrar?
http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar371.exe
1) Click the RAR file and click on the folder inside named Med_Merchant_11v1.0. Extract it to your desktop or wherever you want. Once it has been extracted you will see a folder called "Med_Merchant_11v1.0". Click on it.
2) The folder named Data\Sea\M11B_ should be moved to:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\Data\Sea.
3) The file named Data\Roster\British\Sea\M11B.cfg goes in:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\Data\Roster\British\ Sea.
4) Then, go to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\Data\Sea\Englishname s.cfg.
Open this file with Wordpad or MSWord and add the following line of text to the bottom of the file:
M11B=Medium Merchant 11
5) Save Englishnames.cfg.
That's all you need to do. You can go to Museum ingame & make sure it installed correctly.
BTW - Make a backup copy of Englishnames.cfg. Also, do not try to install the ship while SH3 is running, or it may crash the program.

AOTD_Mad_Max has tested some of my other ships - he reported that they worked fine in SH4. I actually don't know yet how to convert a ship for SH4 but hopefully I can find out or get assistance.

I take it you know the cargo overhangs the deck Iam ?
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h22/bigboywooly/ScreenHunter_428.jpg
Also intersects with the superstructure
I guess this is just an issue with the larger freight boxes
Nice unit though as always

Oh - I forgot to check. :damn: Personally I have the freight boxes disabled on my install because they look way too much like modern shipping containers (and cause problems by intersecting w/cranes).

Hi IABL,
Great model, I'll be installing that today for sure!:up:
Just to follow up on your comment, quote "Personally I have the freight boxes disabled on my install because they look way too much like modern shipping containers "
I too don't like them either - far too modern in my opinion, but how do you disable them from appearing??
EDIT: It's like the army trucks and aeroplanes with folded wings - they are out of proportion with the ships too - can they be prevented from appearing?
Thanks mate!

Open the following file:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Sea\cargodef.cf g
Set the Freight Container and Ammo Container links to "NULL".
They should look like this:
[CargoEntry 2]
NodeName=Freight Containers
LinkName=NULL
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231
CargoType=0
[CargoEntry 4]
NodeName=Ammo Containers
LinkName=NULL
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231
CargoType=1
Then save it. NOTE - back up the file first.

Yes - because of the E-Boat campaign I would eventually like to have a decent variety of small merchant ships and fishing vessels - basically, whatever you would have been likely to encounter in the Channel or other coastal waterways. At the same time, this unit is large enough for ocean-going trips, too.

Just sunk this little beauty on my current patrol. One torp in bad weather off the coast of N/E Scotland and down she went a right burning hulk.

Hi there, IABCL, thanks for this can you explain how to disable deck cargo as you state in your reply below, I agree it looks too modern but was not aware it could be disabled.
