SH3 Commander Release 3.0 is now available!

New features:
- New graphical interface
- New user guide
- Added ability to continue career with new commander
- Now transfers crew IN to u-boat as well as out (when realistic crew transfers option is selected)
- Added ability to recognise user-added patrol log text and include in Personnel Files
- Added link to the FAQ on the TC adjust screen reminding users to read the FAQ first
- Added ability to start careers anytime during 1939. For this feature to be available, players must have installed a mod that adds pre-September 1939 start dates
- Improved handling of SH3's NULL patrol grid problem. When in port, users will not be able to adjust NULL grids because SH3 will just overwrite it again with NULL. However, if saved in-patrol SH3 Commander will support NULL grid changes in exactly the same way as it supports any other grid change
- Personnel File fonts and background image can now be changed through SH3 Commander Options
- Replaced hard-coded absolute offsets to binary files with dynamic searching. Note however that offsets will still be required for the randomised and static events files (less chance of ambiguity and confusion)
- Removed SS## patrol grid masking providing compatibility with non-gridded theatres
- Submarines now included in "Use real ship names" feature
- New option: "SH3 Path". Previous /l: switch no longer supported
- New option: "Skip intro movies"
- New option: "Rollback automatically after exiting SH3"
- New option: "Randomise ship tonnage"
- New option: "Randomise U-boat crush depth"
- Randomised renown linked to randomised tonnage
- Personnel File Postings now list each back-and-forth Flotilla transfer
- Added rank, medals, badges and qualification graphics to Crew List
- Many internal code enhancements

There's a bit of work in this one!

Installation
Before installing SH3 Commander R3.0, you should uninstall your current version. Don't forget to rollback SH3 Commander first and back up any SH3 Commander files that you may have modified (you do not need to backup SH3Cmdr.ini as it will not be touched by either uninstalling or reinstalling SH3 Commander).

If you've installed any add-ons, like the GWX2 aircraft markings mod, these will not be uninstalled. Thus, if you install SH3 Commander R3.0 into the same folder as your previous installation, you will not need to reinstall any such add-ons.

GWX users: You will need to reinstall the "GWX Cfg 4 SH3Cmdr" files into your new SH3 Commander installation. Please consult your GWX manual for further instructions. However, I recommend not installing 'Ship names.cfg' as SH3 Commander R3.0 includes a more exhaustive list.

NYGM users: If I recall there are specific cfg files for NYGM users. Please consult your NYGM manual for further instructions.

To download, click here (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products/SH3Cmdr30.exe) or use SH3 Commander's "Update" feature.

As always, please post your questions/feedback/problems to this thread after reading the *new* expanded user guide (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products/SH3CUG.pdf).

**Feel free to post links to this thread in other SH3 related forums.

Special thanks to all the testers.

NB: Stop by the SH3 Patrol Log Editor plug-in (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=133102) thread and check out how you can expand SH3Cmdr R3.0 even further!

Fanfargintabulintariantastic!

I would like to ask, though, roughly how 'randomised' are the merchant tonnages and crush depths. I don't want to know exactly, or why bother? I just hope I don't sink the Aquitania and find out she only weighed 2000 tons. I presume ahead of time that I won't normally get crushed at periscope depth.

Note to self: RTFM!:damn:

after reading the *new* expanded user guide (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products/SH3CUG.pdf).
The variations are limited in order to keep the tonnage as close to historical accuracy as possible, within the limitations of the Silent Hunter III engine.

Tonnage values are randomised between 75% and 115%. But this does not apply to all ships: I'll say no more as I don't want to spoil, but the answer can be found in "Ship displacements.cfg". ;)

Crush depth values are randomised between 90% to 100% of the rated value (by this I mean the theoretical value determined by the Germans for each type. I'm not sure whether anyone lived to confirm these figures, LOL!).

The boundaries can be changed though if the user so desires.

Note my response applies only to the files shipped with SH3 Commander. GWX, for example, has its own version of "Ship displacements.cfg" which includes the Aquitania...default SH3Cmdr does not.

<muses> I really should have added a "Tips" page to SH3Cmdr...oh well.

Wolfehunter's screenshot reminded me of something that some of you may find useful.

You are not stuck with the date format of ddd, MMM d, yyyy. You can change this easily by editing a line in SH3Cmdr_**.txt:

;Date format
;If changing #250, must only use combination of d dd ddd mmm or yyyy
;All abbreviations should be the same character length - pad with '.'
;Day labels are retrieved from en_menu.txt
250=ddd, MMM d, yyyy
For example, Australians may like to use: 250=ddd d MMM yyyy
Germans may like to add periods.

And so on.

I had to change the fonts too hard to read on my screen.
I see that you are not running with ClearType turned on (unless it's just the image compression).

I recommend that all XP users turn ClearType font smoothing on, especially those with LCD displays. Vista users need not bother - it's on by default.

Check out http://www.microsoft.com/typography/WhatIsClearType.mspx for more info.

Man this is fun! I spent an hour experimenting with different handwriting fonts, just to see how they'd look, and then downloaded three different typewriter fonts. I figure that I actually keep a log by hand while I'm playing, so when I get back to base I'll type up my reports.

The font thingy is a marvelous inclusion! Thank you again.

Thank you Mr. Jones for another wonderful mod.

I thought I had posted this question already, but I cannot find it now. May I ask once more (and I have read the guide) if one can change the written in English entries in the officer's paybook into German; for example, on the page entitled in German "Angaben zur Person", instead of reading "In home base before patrol 25", would it be possible to have that entry written in German? I always play SH3 in German language mode and with German text in order to increase the "immersion factor".

Another question: You write above in the first posting to this thread: "GWX users: You will need to reinstall the GWX cfg files. However, I recommend not installing 'Ship names.cfg' as SH3 Commander R3.0 includes a more exhaustive list."

I, as a PC near illiterate, should be grateful if you could explain how one goes about such a reinstallation.

PS Just found my question that I posted earlier: it's on another thread about the updated SH3 Commander.

See this thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=133120 The download is available in the second post. These are the files that are installed in the SH3 Commander Cfg folder replacing the ones already in there to make SH3 Commander work with GWX's changes. As I recall there are 4 files that are replaced including the ships name one, which now does not need to be replaced.

This was the exact file I downloaded from GWX site, still in .RAR format. All I did was upload it on FF for flakmonkey who was having a problem with the GWX links.

Hi Von Stauber,

I've seen this error when trying to click on a carreer in the main menu of SH3cmd.

my problem was that there was a space in my carreername. I solved it by exiting the program and went to my personal files in my documents and renamed the carreerfolder name (removing the space)

renamed documents\personal files\gwx20\carreers\Milco 2 to documents\personal files\gwx20\carreers\Milco2

This solved the problem for me.

Kind regards,

milco

If you also use GWX2.0 and SH#CMDR, you need to use 4 files in SH3CMDR that are different than the ones supplied in the GWX2.0 install. These files are available where you got the GWX2.0 files, BUT THEY GO INTO THE SH3cmdr FOLDER AND OVER WRITE THE FILES IN THE CMDR FOLDER, as directed in the instructions. JSCones states that it is not necessary to overwrite the shipnames.config file, so only three files need to be overwritten.

OK, I'm not sure if I can make this any clearer, but here goes...

If at any time in the past you have had to install different versions of any SH3Cmdr cfg files, and I know this is a requirement for GWX and NYGM, then you will need to reinstall them again after you reinstall SH3Cmdr.

This includes any cfg files that you have tweaked to suit your gameplay.

The reason is quite simple:
- when you uninstall SH3Cmdr, all core files are deleted, as they should be (otherwise it's a pretty half arsed uninstaller).
- when you reinstall SH3Cmdr, all core files are replaced by the versions that ship with SH3Cmdr, as they should be (again, a pretty half arsed installer otherwise).

So, you need to replace the SH3Cmdr versions again with the ones provided by GWX, NYGM etc.

When replacing them, ignore any date differences. The files provided by GWX and NYGM, while being older, work just the same with SH3Cmdr R3.0. The changes in the newer SH3Cmdr files are simply to support earlier career start dates, which do not apply to either NYGM or GWX at this time.

To reinstall the files, simply consult the original mod (GWX, NYGM etc) documentation and do again exactly what you did when you first installed the mod.

I just noted that you can set the maximum time compression to 8192. Any feedback on what impact this has on GWX 2.0?

:hmm: You don't need PSP open when you press Alt-PrtScn, just the window that you want to capture.

Anyway, you got it working.

Nice font btw. This is why I added the user-defined feature - there's so many different font styles out there that I just couldn't pick one (that had to be freely distributable) to force on you all.

I'm also curious to see if anyone goes Fraktur on the headings.

Thanks everyone for your comments and support - it's much appreciated.

I consider R3.0 to be the result of a "second wind". There's been numerous aspects that I just haven't been happy with over the last few years and they just got the better of me.

But finally I now have something that IMHO looks better, works better, and is just more "fun" to use than any previous version.

There's still more I'd like to add, but with SH4 now incorporating U-boats, any further changes need to be subject to stringent return on investment considerations.

Anyway, thank you guys for providing the feedback and suggestions that has helped shape SH3Cmdr to the way it is today.

Enjoy!

PS: If you happen to get the "List index out of bounds (11)" error when you click on a Career, pls PM me contents of your SH3Cmdr.ini file, the name of the career, and when it was created. And don't panic - the solution is simple.

Oops I forgot to do that...:damn: Thanks.

Thanks for the info on the font Steve. I used it in combination with Teletype to get this effect.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for this add-on.  I don't think I'd still be playing SH3 for as long as I have without it.

A little off topic but I thought that I should mention this; being a Vista user, I've found that I can usually avoid compatability issues with XP programs by installing programs (games) to the C: drive instead of of the default C:\Program Files\... I have both SH3 & Commander installed straight to my C: drive and both work fine, with no need to run either in XP SP2 compatability mode.

Once again, thanks for all your hard work & time investment on this wonderful add-on.:)

I don't see a button for Roll Back like on the previous versions so I marked automatic Roll Back. After exiting, is there a way to tell if it went throught the Roll Back function?

If the automatic Roll Back function is not selected, does a Roll Back button appear after a game is played?

By all means, we'd love for you to make those additions and release v3.1! :yep:

What? The fact that the SH3 Kaleuns still outnumber the SH4 Skippers by a margin of at least 2 to 1 isn't enough incentive? :p

Yes, we would love to see more, but I think what he means is that if six months from now SH4 suddenly can incorporate everything SH3 is with everything SH4 does, we'll all be upgrading so fast that today's work might be tomorrow's leftovers.

On the other hand, if the devs can manage to do it in such a way that everything can be ported over...that might be a whole 'nother ball game.

WAC and LSH3 are the only ones that I am aware of at this time. They allow you to start in Aug 1939.

EDIT: I see BBW has now let it out of the bag for GWX 2.1, so I don't need to "skirt around" it any more by saying "at this time", LOL!

The last download that I have for cfg files has a Randomized Event file dated 12-30-07 at 11:50am.

Yes.

And to pre-empt the next question...re-iterating from post 56 in this thread...

"When replacing them [the cfg files], ignore any date differences. The files provided by GWX and NYGM, while being older, work just the same with SH3Cmdr R3.0. The changes in the newer SH3Cmdr files are simply to support earlier career start dates, which do not apply to either NYGM or GWX at this time."

Extract from page 3 of the new improved User Guide:

"Rolling back SH3 Commander, or Rollback, are terms given to removing from Silent Hunter III the modifications that SH3 Commander has made. This can be achieved by clicking the icon from within SH3 Commander. This icon will only be visible if there are SH3 Commander modifications present in Silent Hunter III."

Everyone, pls take a minute to browse through the new user guide - it's only 30 pages with lots of white space. You'll find this way that you will get answers to most of your questions much quicker than the time it takes to post here and wait for my response.

:yep: That's pretty much it. Even this release wasn't considered lightly. But I figured, "SH3 ain't a dead dog yet, there's still life in the 'ol girl, and there's things in SH3Cmdr that I'd like to do better", so I went for what I hope is one last push. Anything else from now will only be simple stuff and only what the majority of users demand, if anything. Basically, unlike with R2.7, I'm now very happy with the product and don't constantly feel the need to "improve" any part of it. What it still misses, I can let go of.

On the other hand, if the devs can manage to do it in such a way that everything can be ported over...that might be a whole 'nother ball game.
Not quite sure what you mean here - SH3 is slowly being ported over into SH4, but using the far superior SH4 engine.

Guys are already porting elements of SH3 and even GWX 2.0 across (hopefully for own use only with the latter ;)).

SH3Cmdr will never work with the SH4 engine. SH4 incorporates a number of SH3Cmdr features as stock anyway, thus making the equivalent SH3Cmdr features redundant. Even if it were possible, I'd hate for players to be taken backwards by using 3 year old technology on a 1 year old, and different, game. I wouldn't recommend it.

Best to leave the SH4 equivalent in the capable hands of skwasjer et al.

Of course, ignore this totally if I've misunderstood your comment. :p

Excuse me if what I will say/ask was already done by someone or by Sh3Cmdr itself.

I should like to randomize the Fanfara sounds. I already find some solutions here in the forum but they involve a lot of files to be modified. Using Sh3cmdr the idea is so simple: is just a matter to (Sh3Cmdr) choose from a roll of "different" Fanfara_01.wav each time that a patrol will start (or even between patrols, donīt matter). This could be a good addition for the next Sh3cmdr update...or is it possible to use the Random folders on SH3Cmdr to do this now?:hmm: If so can you Jaesen, show me how to do it?(they have a date subfolder...humm I really donīt know how to use it for the above purpose)

Yes, is so simple to make it just using the Random folders inside Sh3Cmdr. A quick "search" on the forum show me that alot of ppl already made/use this solution for Bands and others like Propaganda Posters, etc. Sailor Steve is an example that already made it for it's own use, am I right Sailor Steve???:D

Yep. One day it's Deutschlandlied, another it's Muss I Denn, another it's...well, I don't know all the names, but they get the idea. I've also randomized the different leers--the map-table edges. Sometimes it's cluttered with junk, another time it's clean. Cool stuff.:sunny:

Guys,

Please tell me if I did something wrong here...

I did a career patrol yesterday (as part of testing the OLCE mod) and I came upon a task force heading into Scapa Flow. I was in the right place at the right time and put all 4 torps into HMS Hood. When she went down the log showed I got over 48K tonnage for her.

After being depth charged for close to 2 hours game time I had to head back to port because of severe damage (no attack or Obs. scope, no flak, etc. etc.)

I managed to sink 4 other coastal vessels on the way with the deck gun though.

However, after docking and saving the game I did my usual of 'adding more crew' with the renown I earned (it was 1st patrol of 9/39) , but I had no medals to award - no u-boat clasp for 1st patrol or anything.... Then added new hydrophone etc. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

Anyway, I exited the game, and returned to SH3 Commander and clicked to update my Personnel Profile.

When it opened it showed no tonnage..... It listed the ships I had sunk, but that was it. Also in the page that lists you with other u-boat commanders of the time I showed zero tonnage there too...

When installing I did add the required GWX files, except one of the .cfg files you mentioned as yours was newer.

Any ideas?

What you might have done wrong was to ugrade and hire new crew after the patrol was done. For it to work correctly you need to end the patrol and be done; then hire new crew and upgrade when you reload and as you are starting the new patrol. Then it should work correctly.

Also on the 'no tonnage' problem: did you do any upgrades to the boat before starting your very first patrol? There is a well-known bug that sometimes keeps you from being awarded tonnage if you, say, buy a new hydrophone before the very first patrol.

I just collected different band music and placed each one in a different 'Random' folder in SH3 Commander. As long as they are all in folders labeled Data/Sound and all are dated 09011939 they should be fine. I also have my Gramaphone music in different 'Date' folders, so they automatically show up at the correct times.

 A bug that is often attributed to SH3Cmdr, despite existing well before SH3Cmdr was even a twinkle in its Daddy's eye, LOL!

And an annoying bug too, as it impacts much more than just tonnage - other data goes missing as well, key stuff like dates, which SH3Cmdr has to go looking for elsewhere.

Right off the bat I like not having to esc the intros!

all gibberish to me= any help??? thanks

In English, that means "Do not use JCWolf's U-Boat 1.2 with SH3Cmdr, it is not compatible. Run U-Boat 1.2.1a instead". Known issue, known fix.

If you're not using U-Boat 1.2, disable any mod that changes the officer face icons and try again.

Great news. Will say goodbye to 2.7 once I complete my current patrol. This new version looks a treat.

03-18-08, 11:42 AM
What you might have done wrong was to ugrade and hire new crew after the patrol was done. For it to work correctly you need to end the patrol and be done; then hire new crew and upgrade when you reload and as you are starting the new patrol. Then it should work correctly.

Steve, that could well have been the problem!

After the patrol I did enlist more crew and promoted the only crewmember I could.

Prior to the 1st patrol I didn't add any kit at all though - just sailed 'out of the box' so to speak.

Just a shame it didn't record me sinking HMS Hood!!!:o

Thank you JScones for this excellent piece of work. I have one question though about how the 'Randomised renown linked to randomised tonnage' works. Presumably you have to have selected 'Randomise ship tonnage' as an option before this kicks in or is it a standard feature of Commander as I noticed it was implemented in version 2.5.0 but that was for NYGM and I use GWX? I would also be interested in the formula you use to calculate how much renown you get for a specified amount of tonnage.

Thanks.

Correct.
or is it a standard feature of Commander as I noticed it was implemented in version 2.5.0 but that was for NYGM and I use GWX?
That's a slightly different feature. And for it to be invoked, one must either make a file change or install the cfg files that ship with NYGM.
I would also be interested in the formula you use to calculate how much renown you get for a specified amount of tonnage.
Nothing sinister - just the seed renown x yearly adjust. By default the yearly adjust value is +2%, so we're not talking huge differences. See "Ship displacements.cfg" for more information.

Sorry. SH3 is designed for 1024 x 768 resolution, thus I made a conscious decision to apply the same resolution "boundaries" to SH3Cmdr (although it's more like 860 x 630 now).

Pareto principle I'm afraid.

You can install the program and look it over to see all that it can do. Look over the user guide to see all the options and features. If you are NOT ready to make any changes, DO NOT click on the Launch SH3 icon (check mark) and it will not change anything. I am currently using it for the personnel file and crew list only until I get back to port. If you are using GWX 2.0 you will need some extra cfg files. Go to the GWX Site here (http://gwx.mysite.orange.co.uk/) and click on the Download button. Near the bottom of the page you will find the SH3Commander files, download those. Replace all but Ship Names.cfg. Follow the readme for instructions.

No, you shouldn't have to start via SH3Commander unless you rollback manually or via the automatic feature. I learned this the HARD way a long time ago. Ruined a good 3 patrol career hehehe
Not sure what problems Gairith experienced, but I recommend using SH3Cmdr every time to load SH3, even when mid-patrol. That way you gain maximum benefit of SH3Cmdr's randomisation features.

Certainly, if you have selected auto-rollback then this is the way to do it in order to ensure that you always get the appropriate date based files and settings copied into your game.

In the end it's not really an issue though - as the user guide states:

But don't worry if you forget to launch the game via SH3 Commander once in a while - it won't cause serious problems. It just means that you may see a news file from the wrong date, or your boat may have deeper crush depth characteristics, etc. These problems are minor, temporary and will disappear as soon as you update the game by running SH3 Commander again.
If there's ever another release I'll reword note #1 on page 13 of the user guide to be a bit clearer on using SH3Cmdr mid-patrol.

Balto, you've most likely not saved correctly. Did you get the "Game saved successfully" message when you saved the mission? Are you reloading the correct save point? That is, the save point you would have made immediately prior to exiting the mission?

And when you saved, did you follow the many tips and suggestions posted on this forum that attempt to overcome SH3's known and proven flaky (at best) save game system?

Anyway, I just repeated your steps, following the standard save tips and noting the "Game saved successfully" message. I then exited the mission and exited SH3. Opened SH3Cmdr, re-set the mission parameters, reloaded SH3 (through SH3Cmdr), reloaded the saved mission (which I called "1") and... there I was, just as crippled and sore as I was when I exited (how many bloody escorts are there in that mission?).

So...sorry, but I don't know what caused your problem. However, I do know that it wasn't SH3Cmdr. Unfortunately, because SH3Cmdr provides a wrapper around SH3, meaning it's both the first and last aspect that players see, it's assumed to be involved in such problems, however illogical it may even seem. And comments like Gairith's above don't help either, as they just perpetuate that assumption.

Yes, my post does do that and as such I will remove it out of respect for the programmer and the program. My apology for that as that was not my intention which I'm sure you know. I was referring to a past post made on an earlier version of SH3Commander. Further clarification and discussion in PM.

Yeah, I know mate, but new users are so...impressionable. ;)

I guess even after three years I still get amazed at some of the problems people try to pin on SH3Cmdr. I mean, it seems that logic is just thrown out of the window sometimes.

Anyway, enough complaining...I could be supporting GWX... :rotfl:

Could you add a random campaign generator. What i thinking about is:
Random starting date: year and month
Random flotilla.
Random U-boot type.
Random equipment on ship, but should be a correct to this year.
Random crew. Sometimes with experience sometimes without exp.
Random order, because always we have the same patrol grid, and this is boring.

Can be done now via the "Randomised events" feature.
Random crew. Sometimes with experience sometimes without exp.
Already a feature (has been for about two years, since R2.6).
Random order, because always we have the same patrol grid, and this is boring.
Ever wondered what that "R" button was when you clicked on the patrol grid label? ;)

Bump for anyone who may have missed this first time around.

Further, just to let everyone know, there will be an R3.1...just testing certain aspects now, so will post the full feature list when done so. In the meantime, I will post *some* tested and working features:

- Now prompts to save outstanding changes if another crewman is selected in the Crew Manager screen
- Added ability to change the Patrol Log "Grid" column title through SH3 Commander, in the same manner as the other two column titles (via SH3Cmdr_*.txt file)
- Added ability to modify date format used in Patrol Log (via SH3Cmdr_*.txt file)
- Demotions now recorded in Personnel File

As SH3Cmdr only reads flotilla information from your SH3 install, this says to me one of two things:

a) you haven't installed a mod that extends the starting years to 1945 (IIRC OTS SH3 is about the only thing that doesn't support post-1943 starts, so if you're running RUB, NYGM, WAC, LSH3, GWX or some other supermod this should not be the cause)

b) you've got some file conflict or installation corruption. Perhaps you are running Vista and haven't avoided the traps and pitfalls?

Either way, the problem lies in your SH3 installation.

Where I must put this file ?
I've read the manual but don't understand this thing.

And

Where is this mod ?:
NewsMod/RadioMod
This mod works via SH3 Commander to give the player:

Monthly news reports that appear when loading a patrol, and during the patrol.

A map of Europe and the Mediterranean which updates based on the progress of the war.

Historical radio broadcasts that appear at their correct dates. These play via the gramophone.

NewsMod maps and text by Beery.
German translations by Nico71.

Thanks to this mode and all of modifications, it's a very good job.
I'm espacially enjoyed about the music in the night club, great idea !
But one "reduce" buton is missing because we must stop the music to work in the main SH3Cdr windows.

Other problem, I don't know if it's the place to talk about, but when I receiving an U-boot number in "use realistic U-boot number" mod, I receive for my IX/D2 four number witch are not in my flotilla (10th) at this date.
And I even number also who have never been in this flotilla.

For example, as a new member of the 10th Flotilla, I received U-178 on March 3th, 1943.
In this time, U-178 was in the 12th Flotille since 1 Nov 1942...

I don't understand.

Consult the GWX manual or homepage.

NewsMod/RadioMod
"Radio.wav" file in each "\Date\<YYYYMMDD>\data\Sound\Gramophone" folder for the RadioMod and "Menu variable_*.txt" in the "\Cfg" folder for the NewsMod.

Uboat numbers are allocated to the boat type
Regardless of the flotilla you are in

Which of these files do you use ? And there's a third one that in the readme say's not to put in ship names.

GWX 2[1].0 Cfg 4 SHCmdr 75KB

or

GWX 2.0 cFG 4 SHCmdr 74KB

All 3 from GWX d\l site. Any ideas of what's up.

I only see this one on the site
GWX_2.0_Cfg_4_SH3Cmdr.7z

Also
GWX users: You will need to reinstall the "GWX Cfg 4 SH3Cmdr" files into your new SH3 Commander installation. Please consult your GWX manual for further instructions. However, I recommend not installing 'Ship names.cfg' as SH3 Commander R3.0 includes a more exhaustive list.

OK, full R3.1 feature list below:

New option: "Start patrols at sea"
The obvious biggie in this release and one that many users have wished for. This feature has also taken the longest time to implement, with both Rubini and Stiebler joining me over the last three weeks to help overcome the random SH3 behaviour that continued to thwart our attempts. Modelled off Rubini's "Start at Sea" mod.
Removed options to set preferred rank or medal language. SH3 Commander will now reference whatever rank labels are in the game (refer to User Guide for potential compatibility problems)
This feature removes any assumptions that SH3Cmdr makes in regard to player ranks. SH3Cmdr will now simply use whatever rank labels are contained in the game's *_menu.txt file. Thus if you want to force a specific language or rank set, edit *_menu.txt direct.
Now prompts to save outstanding changes if another crewman is selected in the Crew Manager screen
Added ability to change the Patrol Log "Grid" column title through SH3 Commander, in the same manner as the other two column titles (via SH3Cmdr_*.txt file)
I like this one. It allows players to have their patrol logs titled just like the real thing. It takes advantage of the abilities that the Patrol Log Editor provides, meaning that if you want to include weather reports, you can now correctly title the second column accordingly.
Added ability to modify date format used in Patrol Log (via SH3Cmdr_*.txt file)
I've never liked the current d mmm yyyy format, but used it for international compatibility. Well, in line with my change above, I have now defaulted the date format to d.m.yy., just like the real thing. Europeans and Cwlth players won't have a problem with this, but for Americans who'd prefer m.d.yy, a change is a simple file edit away.
Demotions now recorded in Personnel FileAnyway, just a little bit more tweaking and testing and it'll be ready.

NB: I've decided against providing a different way to randomise static files. Whilst an approach like I posted in another thread would be very simple to implement, it's not as easy/intuitive for file sets (ie where multiple files need to be matched together). And as it seems that users are starting to get the hang of the current approach, I'm reluctant to change it again.

Looks awesome so far! Great Work JS!!

But I am having some difficulties starting with the IX? The 2nd Flotilla usually has it in the drop down but I dont see it.

Any ideas? I already put in the config files as required with the 2.1 instructions etc etc.

No you are not going crazy. In GWX 2.1 you can start your patrol in August 1939 as it was in reality. That way when the war starts you can be positioned in the convoy lines :yep:

Works even better now. Although thanks to SH3, there's still some rare and random "revertions" back to port...but these tend only to occur in extraordinary circumstances. And with no consistency. Sigh.

A question about this option: on its way, the sub will get problem (clearely indentified: motors, diesel, etc ...) and reparation crew must work on.
it's that damage option ?

Malfunctions option, and not damage option

By the way, this option included problem on radars warning ?

got a question about the randomize tonnage option. does this mean that all ships have random tonnage?

for eg

a large tanker might have a very low tonnage or a small transport might have a very large tonnage?

what exactly does it randomize?

cheers

The tonnage for each ship, but only slightly (not sure of the %)

FYI I'm near ready to release R3.1, but one area still needs work, but is outside of my skillset.

If any graphically inclined person can help me out here, what I need are some rank images for officers of KvtKpt and higher (to at least VAdm).

That is, a gif file 12 x 30 pixels like the ones in the Personnel Files folder (rank10.gif is an example of the existing KvtKpt).

Unfortunately, this seemingly simple to solve problem will delay the release. Blasted rank problems thwart me again.

If you are up for it, feel free to email/PM me your images, or ask further questions here.
