I have issues with that particular linked thread. Its the result of one individuals lobbying whos true intent was really for personal gain and maintenance of proprietary behavior, which was thinly guised as a service to the community. Because of how that thread came into existance, intent behind it, and who its key lobbiest was, to me its worth the paper its printed on. It belongs right where it is - The silent hunter 3 mod forum.
I will NOT conduct myself as KL would like me to or has lobbied for. I will NOT have KL dictate to me, proper edicate. Not no.... but HELL NO!
edit:
If that thread was the result of anybody else, i might sing a different tune. But, i see it as nothing more then a result of lobbying by KL to impose his version of ethics upon others. I will operate as i always have, and ill be damned if ill have KL tell me what to do ever again, directly, indirectly, implied or otherwise.
edit:
The only thing a new modder needs to know is
1. do a damn read me, give your damn permissions if you feel inclined
2. dont plagurize other modders and cite your sources
The rest is pork.
Didnt everyone have the chance to propose something to the list? And it was then put together by the moderators. :hmm:
Just to be direct, that was not a moderator initiative. I personally don't subscribe to them, although the favour of a large group of modders was with it. I don't want to speak for any other moderators, but I don't recall there being much enthusiasm for it among us.
Which is why it's "suggested". It will keep you out of trouble, but I don't think it's a law.
The real point is that modders need to behave ethically and in a way that neither steps on others' toes nor create nonsense situations that deny users access to the best and the latest.

Ahh i got ya Duci,
I merely thought a link to that would jog new modders into common decency mode and modding etiquette
Sorry if it touched a raw nerve Duci ;) (link was for basic etiquette as i say thats all)
Well Have Fun

CCIP you put it brilliantly :)
"The real point is that modders need to behave ethically and in a way that neither steps on others' toes nor create nonsense situations that deny users access to the best and the latest"
I cheated and used a link to try to make that point, but what you put is what i should've typed in
Cheers

That is true, but it was initiated and lobbied for by aforementioned person, who insisted on a lot of pork being attached to it for his own aims. Because of that, i have always been angry about that thread, and it feels like someones ramrodding their crap down my throat. I catagorically cannot abide by that, period.
This has all be hashed out before. Just seeing that thread being linked makes me gnash my teeth. Remember the moderators had to lock the thread so everyone cooled off for awhile?
Ive spoken my peace on this, and I am saying no more on this subject. It is not worth my time, nor the frustration to rehash this yet again. I got enough to worry about as it is already.
Fair enough, and yes, this has been talked over quite a few times, usually ending with a padlock hanging on the frontgate. ;)

That's the first time that I ever read Gizmoe's thread. I can definitely see why that would raise the hair on a lot of necks and I don't agree with a lot of it, either. We'll leave it at that.
