Well guys, I have to tell you a strange story.
Was a bright shiny day, with an fine oil sea, North West of Scapa, about 150km away from the British coast. Half of my crew had joined the gramo and was singing “Tipperary ”while the other half was taking sun bath on the deck, lied like dry fishes, eating onions and
joking about the girls from La Rochelle, you see the picture !
By pm 3.00, my WO reports a merchant, long range, heading North.
ALARM !!! All the men get to their feet and my sub goes for periscope depth as quick as an hungry spotted hyena would rush to a carcass in the African bush. Report confirmed on the hydro but the guy is not alone as I can hear two engines, medium and slow speed.
I surface the boat and head my way at medium speed to join the parade. 15mn later, ship spotted: a coastal freighter and his escort, a charming and well painted little trawler.
Then, considering the price of a torpedo, I choose to use shells and order the Dortmund twins and one-eyed Helmut Freztner, the older gunner, to mind the deck gun and load some explosive shells to deal with them.
I remained undetected for a while until the trawler made his way in my direction while the freighter started his zigzag escape.
Time to make a decision as the trawler did already make its own, rushing at me at full speed, firing constant long range shots. Here we go then, it is going to be a face to face fight
and I rush to him at full speed, bearing 000.
6500 meters between us, my deck gun adjusts the shots, 5500, 4800, then 4200 meters. By the time and hundreds of meters, shells get close to both their own targets now and I know that at one point I will have to make my mark on this trawler so that I can take care of the escaping freighter. We deadly get close to each other now. I just loved this race cause it just looked like me and this trawler managed by the AI (stock or GWX2 … ?) both choose some gunfight at the KO Corral (It's uhh … it's the OK Corral Sir !). At 3400 meters; my gun deck crew did a good job and the trawler got a frontal hit that blew up its deck, stopped it and the next shots finally put it on fire. I then left the trawler behind me and joined the freighter to put an end to the story. Did not take much time to send him to the Abyss. But I then realized that the trawler I had left behind did not go down and was still burning on the surface. I went back close to him, suspecting some bug here … this trawler was supposed to sink don't you think ?!? Then the final solution was to waste a torpedo for the Coup de grace so that I am able to carry on my patrol with not living target left behind me. Then I go to a 90° degrees angle, starboard, 500m, impact, 2,5m depth and full speed torpedo: what an explosion ! the thing guys is that this bloody trawler did never go down and remained there, burning like a sausage. Then I decided to leave the place and of course it was never reported as sunk and was still considered in the TDC as a valid target (black ship icon)
Did you ever meet such an indestructible trawler ? :damn:
By the way and through the external cam, it was great to see my boat and this trawler rushing at each other at full speed, firing shots that come closer and closer until the perfect hit !
