I have huge issues passing the tutorial for the flak and the torpedo missions.
regarding the flak mission, i manage to shoot down at least 5 planes, the minimum requirement to pass. i even get a radio transmission from bdu telling that i passed minimum requirement. then i also manage to shoot all torpedo bomb aircraft down. after that my bullets are down to zero so i evade. however, upon returning to base, it won't get me the mission passed. that's really annoying, since i met the basic requirements. what is going wrong? is it becaused 2 people are killed?
the torp tutorial is also super intense. i manage to sink the first freighter ahead with no problem, but then the moving tramps are a true pain ... torpedos keep bumping off despite green indicators within an 800m shooting range. i have spent some nice 4 hours only to keep on failing.:dead:
maybe it's the gwx mod which is making the tutorial missions uberhard? :hmm: how do you pass the tutorials with gwx 2.0?

Don't worry about it. I never did pass any of them fortunatly BDU was hard up and gave me a U-Boat command. They did however make me take Bernard along. After two patrols with him I stuck him into the aft tube.
You will find that it does not matter if you can shoot a plane down because smart commanders always crash dive. You wont win against a plane.... In regard to torpedos it gets easier each patrol as you learn. Start with assisted targeting. Your WO needs something to do so he won't be climbing your back while your at the periscope.
Good hunting.

Hi!
Don't worry too much about passing the tutorials. If you did well in the stock Silent Hunter III tutorials you received more starting renown to buy stuff, with a maximum of 1500 renown points; in GWX, you get the 1500 renown points automatically, whether you play the tutorials or not.
If you think you're ready to face convoys, then go ahead and start a career; if you feel you're not ready, keep at the tutorials until you feel you are ready.

Before you load the mission there are two things to click on top One is (Practice)
the other is (Exam) Make sure that you click exam before starting or it wont save your results.
(learnt the hard way)

Coulda sworn that in the campaign I started last week I only got 500 to begin with. :-?

I've got to confirm this too Pablo. GWX 2.0 only gives you 500 renown when you start a new campaign.
Are you thinking of GWX 2.1?;)

A few quick things - the first is to use "exam" instead of "practice" as stated above. I think the whole community could retire if we each had a nickel for every one of us that has made that mistake.
On the AA training, my crew passes 100% of the time. The only time I have failed that mission is when I try to man the guns myself. Even Bernard shoots straighter than I do.
As for the torpedo mission, I advise that instead of immediately shooting at the ships nearby, you take the few seconds required to go the chart table and plot the course of all the ships in the area. That way after you take out the closest ships you know where to pursue the others. As I recall, some of the ships are required and some are optional, so focus only on the required ones as detailed in the mission briefing. The ships will "disappear" if you don't get to them fast enough, so put your boot into it.
On the convoy mission, although it is a bogus way to do it, you can take out the escorts easily with your deck gun and then play at will with the merchants.
Lastly, I would guess that if you are having any other troubles passing you could lower the realism levels temporarily to get through the school, then increase them back to the levels you want to play with.
Bottom line is that in order to "graduate" and get my 1500 points I used a bunch of tactics that I have never once repeated in a mission.

Possibly a typo that's all.

I skipped flak exam cuz the armor on some planes are too high. Some planes in campagins that aren't in exam even have higher armor. I tried shoot down using top of line flaks with conning tower type 3 against some plane types, I forgot the names of planes, I think Avenger or something starting with A, and planes like Sunderlands, my flak guys did good job, even I used external view to see if rounds did hit them, they still won't go down. If I strapped several anti-tank gatling guns in front of their cockpits aiming & shoot at pilots, they will still fly merry go around. They are like tank in air with computer or remote control without pilots. I think GWX need to tune down armor on planes.

In the stock game people used to report being attacked by as many as 20 Sunderlands...and shooting down 15 before they were finally sunk. Very unrealistic. In real life patrol planes would fly alone, and attack alone, and usually win. Yes, GWX accounts for this by adding a lot of armor, but it's not to make them impossible to kill, it's do make you act like they did in real life: don't fight, DIVE!

I can understand that, but planes seems to have unlimited fuel to keep me below, they still keep calling in for bunch of planes leaving more holes in their patrol zones. I remember reading somewhere in history of some Uboats have shot down more than one planes. I just like me hunting ships, only have to worry about DD, nothing else. I felt the planes in game is more irritating than necessary. At least we can change our CFG on planes range to 1km, plane problems solved. :know: Of course we would miss our Luftwaffe, but I rarely seen them before making changes in CFG anyway. In history, German had most planes and their Luftwaffe was biggest air force in world, but in game, a different story. They would be useful to keep RAF at bay while we can surface.
GWX 2.0 gave me 1500 renown
but then i did score excellent on navigation (which is the one tutorial i reloaded to see what GWX looked like)

Precisely Steve http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif
There are many reports of aircraft circling out of flack range and calling in additional assets (especially when the U-boat chose to fight it out on the surface and were damaged in the first pass thus preventing them from diving).
First rule of thumb:
