View Full Version : U Boat Atlantic Campaign

Anyone know if the GWX guys or other modders are looking at the possibility of creating a full U Boat Atlantic campaign within 1.5? Personally, I have no interest in U Boats in the Indian Ocean, and I'll be using TMO in the Pacific unless or until an Atlantic campaign exists. Just wondering.....:D

Yes please , the more modders that move over to 1.5 the better .
Yes, there is a 3-man-crew, which works on an atlantic mod. But i will not tell you the names, they are all thieves in your mind. :D

I understand the frustration and anger here, RDP. I really thought that this group was doing to Silent Hunter 4 what another group, who shall remain nameless, did to Silent Hunter III.
In fact, the AOD guys seem to be passionate modders and not thieves. My fault for not researching more fully before posting in the 'They're Back' thread.
My apologies to you AOD Guys. :D

The "They" in "They're Back" meant that the poster thought that it was the guys who took all the best SH3 mods from 2005 and put them on their own disc and offered them up for sale.
I too understand why AOTD would be upset, but I thought we straightened that out.

I understand, but they know the credentials\reputation of SUBSIM TDK, I feel that statement is a little harsh, especially given that you said it was a misunderstanding and took action to correct it, twice now :yep:

no, not new registered. "But if u have nothing to say, shut up" we say.
my advise for you, do it.
@RDP
it's how TDK1044 wrote. it was absurd what many people wrote in the other thread. and the thread started by an moderator...
i would feel awful about an thread which would be started by myself arbitranly without enough information or read something about it.
@TDK
So, i accept the apologie of you, TDK, hope u will accept mine too. :)

Sure. We're all on the same side here. Let's just move on with a common goal in mind. :D

The GWX Team will work on this project... After taking a looooooooooooong http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/1691/jecoutete0.gif rest.
Don't expect anything from us soon. :arrgh!:
It will come... But definately not soon. :dead:

Ok Captains,
now we got peace here and you all know me as an modder with an helping hand for other modders.
We are working on an Atlanticszene for SH4.
First of all i wanne say that is not so difficult as it looks like.
If you open the Campaign_Loc.mis you can see that the UBI-team has worked out some harbours for the Atlanticszene.
I really wonder the the "Memorial" near Kiel was implemented to that file.
Same to all locations at the Kielcanal.
Did they took it from GWX ? :hmm:
In this time we are on the way to implement all subs and ships to the game.
If this is done we will test it in one of ouer Onlinecampaigns where we can see many bugs and problems with ouer converted units cause we are testing it with a group of over 40 captains.
After this we try to create new campaign-files.
This is the hardest work cause every convoi has to be written new and every unit has to be placed new in an empty szenario.
We hope that we can get there some help from nice GWX-Campaign-writers.
It make sence to bundle all working hands on this cause i think many people want to play the Atlantikszene with SH4.
I can give you further information in two weeks.
I think the subconverting must be finished then.
Last i wanne say that SH4 is much more better for modding like SH3.
It is very easy to simulate the "german torpedokrise" cause the torpedosim-files are better with more values for circlerunner, gyroproblems and deepholdingfailures.
The shipment is much better for modding.
Its easy to let one unit drive with different designs through the wartime cause you can define the textures-files in the Roster-Cfg of any unit.
The AI-driving is better.
In ouer "fall of the rising sun" you can see this.
Destroyer wont drive in the same way if they have detected you.
In SH4 you can tweak the simulation much harder and more realistic.
Sorry for my bad english but i hope you understood what i want to say.

yo. i think most sh3 fans are longing to see the ball picked up, which was played by the dev's via the uboat exp.
if you guys can say that sh4 is much better for modding, thats nice to hear. i wonder a bout a few things tho.
how about the missing subs? aint it hard to implement the VII and II with all of their tower variations etc? how about the escort ai? is it usefull at all to simulate allied asw behaviour? how about stuff like the hedgehog or the gnat?

As Alex mentioned we're going to port GWX to the sh4 engine, but it should be a long process, to keep things up to the standard we try to mantain in GWX, it's not just a matter of changing a few controllers and throwing a unit into the sea folder, for example I'm rebuilding the 7C model up to SH4 standard, and it took me almost a week and a half just to add detail to the deck, this work has to be done for all units, sea/submarine/air, before the campaign dept. can start their work, also we need to add models for the missing sensors, guns, searchlights, complete the KM grid, DD needs to port his interior mods, upgrade all the textures, and the list goes on...

Only one 3D Model, which is just not to see, is the snorkel by tomi099 where i have his permission to use the 3d model.
one of the Modding Crew is from the atlantic sharks community, who supports us.

Yep. The thought of a full U Boat Atlantic campaign within SH4 is exciting. I don't care if it's a year away, if the GWX guys are involved in it, it will be done right and to their high standards. The AOD guys are new to me, but they also seem like a very professional bunch. This all bodes well. :D

Reading over MadMax's response, it looks to me a Atlantic campain is well in hand and a good crasp on campaign files workings has been gone over. As we know, RSRD by Lurker dealt with the exact same thing in creating historical routes within the campaign files. I think Lurker took about 6 months to get a very respectable mod for historical shipping. Looks like you are ahead of the game. Good luck to the AOD team!
The Atlantic Campaign is a must for any SH4 1.5 player.
I Vote all for it
this is the most exciting SH4 thread as of today. At least I feel so when thinking on what this campain can look like and can add to the SH4 !!!!
It is great to hear that you have such plans. Excelent news.

Modding for the community takes away alot of time from that person or persons. Once it is released, they have to take additional time to squash bugs, update the mod when a patch is released, compatability, etc...
Many great modders of games of ALL types have left the community because of the way the community treats them. If someone doesn't like the way such and such is modded, mod it yourself. Open the files, see whats in them. Trial and error.
I for one am very grateful for ANYONE who post a different bitmap, texture, dat file, or 200 meg mod for the community to download. But please, let's not create a rift that drives modders away from what could be a truly great submarine simulator.

I will be courteous, please keep those kinds of comments to yourselve they are not warranted nor needed. We can all live here together as long as there is respect.
There is little humor in your comment; in my humble opinion. I still run two installs of SH3 and play them quite often. Subsim is a great place to participate and learn about sub sims due to the fact that I do not have to read posts like yours, in fact in the year that I have been a member of subsim yours is the first and hopefully last has offended me.
Moderator; please lock this thread ASAP.
Thank you guys and keep up the good work on all that is SH4, PTO and Atlantic Campaigns.
That was either a backfiring joke or a tasteless flame. Tsk tsk tsk.
I won't comment back, and given where this has turned, I've got no choice but to put this one to sleep...
