Looking for information on what SubRon was stationed where, and when. My aim is simply to give the flotillas in SH4, they're actutal name, rather then the generic one of its location. Midway in particular. I thought it was just a stopover point, but from i want to make sure there wasn't (or was) a SubRon stationed there.
TIA

I just did a lengthy run through a lot of websites, with a bit of googling involved. Hoping to play hero, but didn't come close. If I could get to my books, maybe; but the only one I can think of that might help is Roscoe. There are people out there with copies, or maybe Blair can help.
Other than giving money to the National Archives website, I'm stumped; which is too bad because I would love to see something similar to what's been done for SH3 as far as being assigned to a real squadron in a real location with an appropriate sub.

Thanks steve. yeah info is hard to find. I searched high and low, off and on for a few days now and have drawn blanks.
From Roscoe:
Asiatic Submarine Force comprised the following roster (Dec 8, 1941--tater):
Submarine Division 21 (Commander S S Murray)
Salmon, Seal, Skipjack, Sargo, Saury, Spearfish
Submarine Division 22 (Commander J A Connolly)
Snapper, Stingray, Sturgeon, Sculpin, Sailfish, Swordfish
Submarine Division 201 (Commander R B Vanzant)
S-36, S37, S-38, S-39, S-40, S-41
Submarine Division 202 (Commander W M Percifield)
Seadragon, Sealion, Searaven, Seawolf
Submarine Division 203 (Commander E H Bryant)
Perch, Pickerel, Porpoise, Pike, Shark, Tarpon, Permit
Tenders
Holland, Canopus, Otus, Pigeon
He has no organizational tables for any other squadrons. Damnit.
Might be worth emailing someone at the Navy...

Thats a heck of alot better then what i knew!
We could always infer the rest. A quick lookup of those boats here:
http://www.fleetsubmarine.com/sublist.html
tells you where the left port from.
edit.
Doh, thats just the asiatic fleet.
I may have to boil it down to fleet instead of specific division or squadron. :(

Being praticle for a minute - given that we can't exactly make a flotilla for every squadron or division, (i dont think i realized there were so many) i think its time to scale this down a bit.
Asiatic Submarine Force Seems to the a proper name for the Fremantle boats (headed by SUBSOWESPAC)
Similarlly..
Pacific Submarine Force , would be the pearl boats. (headed by COMSUBPAC)
If thats true, where does Brisbane fall? Under the Asiatic force? edit: Or should i cheese it, and use "Brisbane command"?
The Asiatic Submarine Force (and the rest of the Fleet) ceased to exist after the end of February 1942. Best to set it up where the boats of the Asiatic Fleet get transfered to SUBSOWESPAC on March 1, 1942.
So, so far then, that means we know the following:
Asiatic Fleet: Philippines and Java, Dec. 1941 - end of Feb. 1942.
COMSUBSOWESPAC: Perth-Fremantle: March 1942 - ?
COMSUBPAC: Pearl Harbor
Brisbane Boats: ?
Aluetians Boats: ?
Might want to ask Lurker about this.

After some teeth gnashing, Ive come to the conclusion that the interface isn't intuitive enough to try and even remotely model historical organizations as it pertains to the pacific.
This link has a little more info but only through 1942

I looked and I have no organizational charts. A PITA to read through and have to create one.

Another even bigger pain, but it might be possible to work at it backwards; i.e. follow the career of each individual sub, and deduce their homes that way.

Yeah, I was thinkig along the lines of Sailor Steve and was going to suggest Wikipedia (of all places) to look at each sub and see when it finished sea trials, when it arrived on station in the Ppacific, date of first patrol, etc. Whomever populated Wikipedia with the fleet boats did a very good job.
Might be worth emailing someone at the Navy...
That's almost funny... (as if they would know) I corrected their website a few years ago because they didn't have the WW II Admirals prior to Lockwood named correctly.
"RADM Robert H. Withers Jr" is what they had...
The mistake was combining: RADM Thomas Withers Jr. and RADM Robert H. English
After that for some reason SHCE kept sending me up to the Aleutians... lol
