View Full Version : Strange FFG behaviour

Hi guys,

I was driving the FFG round the south Atlantic yesterday. I had numerous enemy ships around, including enemy special forces.

I was travelling at flank speed across very deep water, and then suddenly the ship slowed and stopped. It acted as if it was stuck, and did not move even with flank speed selected. The depth below the keel was in the thousands of feet.

I had no damage to the ship, but I wondered if it had anything to do with enemy special forces?!

Anybody else experienced getting 'stuck' in open water?! Any ideas?

Cheers,

Ben

I think there was some bug concerning collisions with special ops. Boat was dead, although it did not show as dead. Anyway I don't now much more about it.

If it started to sink, then it might have been the result of a collision or explosion in proximity. Sometimes these events kill a ship without displaying any damage.

That's the thing, it didn't sink and I could use everything onboard, except the engines! The engines were showing a high RPM when I selected flank speed, I just wasn't going anywhere!!

Ok, this issue is starting to get very annoying. It seems that no matter what, whenever you try to recover a MH-60, a "collision" occurs and the OHP sinks with no damage, causing you to fail the mission (she eventually hits the bottom and disappears, prompting the crew to yell "she's lost, abandon ship!").

It's happened on every mission that I've played as the FFG. I know numerous people who are having the same problem. Perhaps it is something with LWAMI? Or mabye some sort of bug in DW 1.04? Or a compatibility issue?

This is very wierd.
Generally I play in the frigate in multiplayer/multistation and I've never had the helo crash on returning to base.
It takes tens of minute for the approach and final landing but no collision.
I use dw 1.04 + latest version of lwami

On the other hand, launching harpoons or sm-2 generally results in a crash for me, I've even done sevral crash reports to S.C.S hopeing for a fix but its very unlikely it will ever materialize.

I've seen it happen several times, but I don't know what's causing it. It has NOT been a consistent event for me by any means, though. I can't remember the last time I saw it, and I've had at least 5 successful recoveries over the last week without any problems.

Is there a particular speed this seems to be happening at? Sea state? Is the OHP maneuvering at the time?

Well, the last time I played the FFG (which was today), I was at ahead flank (29kts) to compensate for the strong wind. It was at sea state 5, with the winds at about 29kts with no gusts over 3kts. The Perry was moving in a straight line.

Just for the record, I did not literally mean "every time I played the FFG." It's just that through my occaisional FFG usage, it has happened every time for the last three times. I hope this makes even remote sense...

I admit, I only play the FFG very occaisionally, so that probably why I see it so often.

The odd thing is the inbound helo goes for a missed approach maneuver right before it gets centered over the landing deck. Once it does the maneuver, the FFG stops instantly (emphasis added), then slowly sinks as if it was taking on water.

Odd. In my last multiplayer game, I was in a MH-60 landing on a player controlled FFG. The FFG sunk.

Another thing is that when I tried to land on my "base" FFG, the helo did a missed approach but the FFG did not sink.

Uhm does it happen only when someone is actually piloting the helo ?
Every time i use the frigate the helo is controlled by me from the astac station, there is no player onboard the mh-60r and i don't see the helo crashing or sinking the frigate while on approach for landing.
Even with high sea state and wave riding enabled no collision whatsoever.
The only thing is that it takes much more time to takeoff and land the helo.

Nope. It happened in my very last play with an FFG (which was in single player, me controlling the FFG).

I don't know what to say.
Maybe at some specific moment the ship is rolling/pitching beyond the maximum values allowed for a safe helo landing and thats why its crashing and taking the frigate with it.

I'm guessing sea state 5 is the problem. IIRC, collisions between the FFG and Helo have always been common in sea state 5, but before 1.04 the consequence was only damage to both platforms, maybe a crashed helo if you were really unlucky.

Edit: Just manually landed the Seahawk on an FFG in TLAM's Kolbiensky (sic?) Ridge without incident.

I guess I'll fool around with the mission editor and conduct some tests.
