Sorry, but of course I have to ask....
You did get the latest Nvidia drivers from the nvidia website, yes? Not the ones on the disc that came with the card.

I know you said you upgraded your power supply, but did you get a big enough PSU to accomodate both the card and everything else on your PC?
Even after upgrading my PSU when installing my X1950 Pro, it wouldn't run, because there wasn't enough power to run the new card, and two disc drives, two hard drives, a Physics card, a sound card, etc.
With a brand new card, it's either not enough power, overheating (you did say after 6 minutes of time), or driver conflicts.

i went from a power supply of 2.79 to 500 watts and the card should handle silent hunter 4 perfectly inst the card I bought an upgrade from the ati raedon x1600 pro because thats what best buy told me

Hello
Try with drivers that came with the card.
also maybe something from ati drivers is still there, and may cause problems.

vid cards are notorious for coming with inadequate cooling "out of box".
take the side cover off your case and let a fan blow through.
If no help, clean the entire mobo, ram, cpu heatsink, etc. and reseat all connections.
If you have an SATA drive be very careful the cables are in no bind whatsoever.
I would also do a full vid driver uninstall, including registry entries before going from ATI to NV.
Please don't forget to check your mobo manufacturer for the latest northbridge chipset drivers.

Hello
Try "safe" mode, then you will use only basic vga driver. and can do maitenance.
or put back in box your working ati card, this way at least you can change drivers etc.

Do you have the "Orders_Bar_Al1" mod installed?
If you do, then remove it to see if that is your problem.

Some tips:
I had trouble with them intro movies in
\Data\Movies\Intro
After deleting them game boots allrite.
That was an issue with some codecs, I've read it somewhere in teh internets.
You may want to move those elsewhere just to test how it goes.
Also, when installing them drivers, using a tool that removes the crap
old drivers leave behind is what I do.
Driver cleaner, or whatever it was called.
I think guru3d (http://guru3d.com/) has it atleast.
:arrgh!:
Someone beat me to it.

I'm glad you're back up and running, LCL. But you made a huge leap in logic in declaring that all nVidia video cards are crap, or don't work with SH4.
It could be, that
A) The video card you got was defective(hey, it happens)
B) Your new power supply is not of sufficient quality or watts to handle all the hardware in your case
C) You had some sort of driver conflict that was wreaking havoc.
or even
D) You may not have had the new video card properly seated in the bus.
The only reason I bothered posting is that someone may find this post in a search, and maybe the possibilities I listed above might help them.
Anyway, I'm happy that you're back up & running. Sink'em all! :sunny:

We are not done yet. Did you remove all of ATI stuff? Did you do a complete file and folder search for ATI left overs? You might be surprised. I think 3DGuru has a progam to remove all ATI related files. I was running a X1300. I went and purchased the Nvidia 7800 GS. I had to remove hidden left overs from ATI. I was also running it with a 350 watt power supply. I would say your power supply is not the issue. I would say, bad card or conflict in drivers. Go find the removal tool of all ATI drivers. Then find the tool to remove all Nvidia drivers....I think it is called Driver Detonator. You can also do this I think in the device manager on your computer. Once cleaned up, load the current driver and see how she goes. Go to 3DGuru.com. I believe your answers are there.

Hi,
I have an FX7300LE PCI card, not very powerful by any standards, but I cannot afford the luxury of an upgrade yet, so I O/C'd it to the max, just before artifacts cut in, without increasing voltage, and I'm happy with it. F.P.S. always above 25 and can even use max TC and get 6 FPS. Remember the old saying about the bad workman blaming his tools.

hi warhawk i uninstalled all ati and nvidia cards and returned the nvidia card and bought the ati radeion HD2600 pro and updated the drivers and sh4 is working perfectly no problems so it was either a driver conflict or bad card the geek squad agents at best buy werent for sure but they feel it was a bad card so i just bought the ati card instead so all is well and i have made several patrols with the last patrol bagging to escort carriers

Sign in to photo bucket. You will see at the top were you can get the pics off your computer to upload. Also, see option at the top for the size of the pic you want it displayed. Normally 800x600 is good. Click browse and find the pic you want on your computer. Click save and then upload. Once done, keep this page open on the internet. Open another page for Subsim. When you start a post or reply, at the top you see a small pick of two mountains and the sun over it. Click on that, a small window pops up for the link to your picture. Go to the page you have open at photobucket and click on "direct link" under the picture you want. It will copy automatically. Switch back to the Subsim page and paste it to the small window you just created. It takes longer to type this then actually do it :rotfl:
Send as .jpg pics. Normally SH4 saves your screenshots in .BMP form. I just open then with Windows Paint, click save as and make it a .jpg.

Anti Alaising. I noted on your pictures jaggies as they call them. In your ATI card set up, look for AA X2 or X4. This helps clean up the jaggies. Need to fine tune that card you got!

lt cmdr lare
Lt. Cmdr.Lare, AA is anti-aliasing. It is a graphic card function which smooths out the "jagged" lines on objects. That's about as basic an explanation you can get:yep:
Oops, AVG you beat me too it. Sorry about that

When you loaded the driver a CCC(cataylist control center) should have loaded. Go to your programs list off the start button lower left hand corner. Open this progam once found on the list and look for the 3D application. This is were you will find it.
It will look like this when open:

Do not push Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic too much or you will loose FPS.
Best settings are 4X and 8X respectively. keep in mind that the higher is the resolution the lesser is the benefit of having a full power AA.
If you press Ctrl+F8 (or is Shift+F8??) during gameplay a FPS counter will appear in the top of the screen. Press again and it will disappear. It may be useful for a performance check.
Good luck!!
