RSRDC Phase III Plus is up

Read the “README” carefully and select the correct version of RSRDC for what ever SH4 configuration you’re running.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=667498&postcount=1

This will be the last update for 1.4 versions of SH4, with the exception of RFB. Will release a new version for their RFB when ever they finish there next version.

Unsure when there will be a newer version will come out, but it will be V1.5 based only. I’m going to “try” to take a little time off as I’m pretty burned out right now.

Well, now if only RFB and NSM make releases for 1.5, we'll have a full set of the big options for 1.5 flavour :D

Excellent stuff as always! I honestly wish someone comes up with a wise-ass website where you could buy other people a drink. You'd be one of the people on my list :D

Running RSRDC 355 with SH4 1.5
First Mission, second Objective sent me from Manila (where I had dropped off supplies) to patrol Map sector SZ49. The Nav Map shows a Gold patrol star due north of Darwin, but it is 533 NM from the grid square named in the Mission Objective message. Should I ignore the Message and just sail within, say 75NM of the Star center? The typed message may have simply designated the wrong grid coordinate???

Special Note: For users of the U-Boat Add-on (SH4 v1.5) RSRDC is a US Pacific mod only. “NO Changes” were made to the German Campaign.

So your response is that the 'error' of Patrol Star location versus Mission Objective grid coordinate is a fault of the U-Boat add-on, not your RSRDC. Thanks for clarifying that.... I'm not an expert on Modding...nor on campaign design.

So....I'll play it by ear and see what happens....as I doubt that the Dev's who wrote the German campaign would offer any response/clarification on these forums.

lurker, last time I looked at your files, you have the Maya showing up before it should be. While it was a part of the Takao class, the model we have of it shows it in its anti-aircraft cruiser configuration, which was completed in April 1944. See here:

http://www.combinedfleet.com/maya_t.htm

(That site has some excellent TROMs for all the major Japanese surface units, if you're looking to refine RSRD at all).

(Nice little humorous note for the entry of April 16, 1944: "A monkey, donated to MAYA by the Kure Zoo, is also embarked. During the voyage, the aircrew who care for it teach the monkey to smartly salute the senior officers - much to their annoyance.")

Luke, lurker's ship movements are based on those TROMs. RSRD is basically those trom files animated, lol. If the issue is just the start date in the roster, for RSRD it won't matter at all. Why? Because he has no random ships that large, they are all added specifically, following the TROM. So Maya could be set to 1919 and she'd only appear when he explicitly calls her.

I get that. :D I did look at the files, and he does call for the Maya to be generated before her April 1944 refit, which isn't correct. Any instance of the Maya before April 1944 should be represented by the Takao class, and after that date the specific Maya model should be used.

I’m well aware of the Combine Fleet site. Where do you thing most of the Task Force / Ships movement come from.
The vast majority of ship classes used in the campaign layer are based on a “IJN Ship Substitution List” that was developed by “tater”, see the CA list below:
Heavy Cruisers
CA Furutaka
CA Kako =CAFurutaka
CA Aoba =CAFurutaka
CA Kinugasa =CAFurutaka

CA Myoko =CATakao
CA Ashigara =CATakao
CA Nachi =CATakao
CA Haguro =CATakao

CA Takao
CA Maya =CATakao
CA Chokai =CATakao
CA Atago =CATakao

CA Mogami (pre-rebuild) =CATakao
CA Mogami (post-rebuild) =CAMogami
CA Mikuma =CATakao
CA Suzuya =CATakao
CA Kumano =CATakao

CA Tone =CAMogami
CA Chikuma =CAMogami

If you had done a “detailed” code review of all the campaign layer that have the “Maya” in it (I.E): 41a_Jap_TaskForce.mis
42b_Jap_TaskForce.mis
43a_Jap_TaskForce.mis
44a_Jap_TaskForce.mis
AleutiansCampaign.mis
BattleOfPhilippine.mis
BurmaJawa.mis
EastAsiaCampaign.mis
PearlHarborAttack.mis

You would have found the “NCA_Maya” ship model is not used “ONCE”, but the “NCA_Takao” is used in all cases.

Great Mod!

Does this mod also reduce the massive amount of enemy air traffic or at least tone it down to a more believable/realistic level???

It seems that the Japanese Air Force must have over 100 million planes by the way they keep harrassing me even at night!

...And can 3rd party single missions/war patrols/sub school training mission be added without conflicts?

THANKS!!!

You would have found the “NCA_Maya” ship model is not used “ONCE”, but the “NCA_Takao” is used in all cases.
But that doesn't make sense. After April 1944, Maya didn't look like the rest of the Takao class. It would only make sense to use NCA_Maya for specific instances of the Maya after April 1944, right?

M. Sarsfield

I think that he's saying that he never modeled the Maya at all for any time frame.

Now I see it:

44a_Jap_TaskForce has the following entry:

GroupName=Maya plus 2DD to Lingga Roads via Okinawa - Manila
GameEntryDate=19440714
Class=CATakao

That, right there, is as plain as day. It needs to be CAMaya.

GroupName=BatDiv1, CruDiv4 + CruDiv7 to Hashirajima

Another instance where CAMaya should be used.

It's right there: 2 dates after April 1944 where CAMaya should be used. Using CATakao is NOT correct.

I repeat for possible correction. I use the “IJN Ship Substitution List” as the guide for creation of ship models within RSRDC. I am not going to re-release 5 versions of RSRDC over this.

All we're talking about is two lines in one text file. I'm not asking you to re-release the entire mod.

Anyhow, it's easy enough to change, and the info is out there if people want to correct it. I know I'll be doing it for my installation of the mod.

Just bought Uboat missions and am now downloading phase III plus. Hopefully may find time to have a good look tonight.
Thanks for all your hard work. It certainly transformed SH4 for the better as far as I'm concerned. Brilliant stuff.:up::up:

All the very best.

I just got a contact update that said, "IJN task group is est. to be at 3850N 1273SE at 120800Z enroute Sasebo."

What does that mean? I know what Zulu time is, but are there commas missing in the map coords or am I reading the compass wrong?

M. Sarsfield

38 degrees 50 minutes North Lat., 127 degrees 3 minutes E Long. It's a nuisance that the game doesn't add the commas.

Oct. 20, 1943, just east of Negros Island in Philippines, I dropped off supplies to commandos. About 20 minutes after completion I got a message saying that my current mission was terminated and that I was to head to Timor to rescue 10 survivors. A star never appeared at Timor and the objective never showed up in my list.

been using it with 1.5, only thing i noticed was the radio messages kept repeating over and over again and I was not notified of a new one until I opened it...should I uninstall this?

---checked the other thread...but I still get those repeating radio messages...just me??

---wait a minute...it says "Uboat addon only"...is this only for the Uboat campaign?

Questions about RSRD?

This is a fabulous mod and thank you who ever put this together.

I have tried several searches and can find not the information I am wanting. The questions I have is with all of the various options with dates, bases and boat in this mods is there any logic on the types of missions you will be running.

I do not remember all the options I checked last night but I was assigned to be one of the subs entrusted to the picket line for the invasion of Guam and Saipan. I love these types of missions and would like to select a career option they would give me more historical missions?

If someone could tell me to find these within the program I may be able to put together a Pivot Table and you could check the different options and maybe know what your missions are going to be?

This is a great game made much better my the mods. this is a great game and I would have to say, I have had hours of pleasure playing. Everyday I find something new or remarkable within the game.

Forgive me for being a little dense, BUT....I have been running with just Trigger Maru and ROW just upgraded to the latest overhaul version after making port on the Drum and getting given the command of Balao. I haven't gotten the Uboat add-on yet. I have been planning on adding the RSRD mod as soon as I manage to finally finish my current career. Now I am confused as to which one to download. Phase III Plus? All the links say something about 1.5 is this for uboat addon users only?

I just finished reading Unrestriced Warfare by James DeRose and have The Bravest Man by William Tuohy at the ready. I am filling with desire for some realistic missions in my career and may decide to go ahead and abandon my current career. Your wise and inciteful directions are awaited with an unjustified sense of urgency.

I have been running this with 1.5 so I guess it works...no CTDs and what not, but I haven't run into a single merchant in two patrols, and besides that just one destroyer...is this normal?

"lurker_hlb3",

My personal thanks for the work you have done which allows many of us to get much greater enjoyment from SH4. If it weren't for guys like you, ducimus, and tater (among many others) I highly doubt I'd still be playing this game. As it is now, SH4 will have a place on my harddrive for a long time to come.

Take a break and spend some time enjoying your own work by playing the game. The modders here at subsim (of which you are definitely a big part of) have done some outstanding work to say the least. I'm to busy having a blast playing a heavily modded SH4 to offer any criticism, SH4 has come a looooong way in a short time because of people like you. Thanks for your unselfish contribution to us all!

Have a good day. :)

All versions pertaining to 1.4 have sadly been pulled. There are only so many versions of a mod as complex as this a single man can manage and support.

@supposedtobeworking: yes, that's perfectly normal. The targets are out there, but this is a vast ocean. Patience is the key ;)
