combat information:
first of all i ain't no modder, so please dont laugh at my attempts to do something, but as a player in sh4,
i'm starving for ingame combat information.
i have periscope ranging charts for japanese warships and merchants on printed paper, but i would like to see that information displayed in the rec manual.
so i tried fooling around with the names cfg, i believe its called, and below is a picture of what i did.
you can see the length of the kongo, which is 738 ft, and beside that you see 1x 2693 1346, and then 4x 10771 5385.
this corresponds to the mast height ranges of the kongo using the vertical tick marks of the attack scope at low and high power.
from this you can get range and speed manually without using the tdc.
an example:
if you were observing a kongo class bb at low power and its mast filled the first tic on the vertical wire, then the range to target is 2693 yards.
then in a minute or two, the mast height now fills two vertical tics on the scope, its range to target would be 1346 yards.
2693-1346 is a difference of 1347 yards.
if the ship covered that yardage in one minute, then the speed of the ship is 39.9 knots. so easy isn'tt it?
i wished i could do it for 10 tics, on 1power, 4 power, and 7 power, to include the tbt, but there is not enough room, so i put ranges in for just 1 and 4 power,
two entries apiece so that you can determine range and speed, for the 100 percenters out there.
i only did the kongo, just to see what it would look like, but ill do it for all the enemy ships if people want it.
the better approach would be a modder who could really make it look good, and get the combat information for ten tics for 1x 4x and 7x in the rec man.
if someone wants to take up the challange, i have the ranging charts for all japanese ships, except the sails, and i will email them, so that he doesnt have to do the math.
