Damage control crew distribution

This may be a simple question but the normal damage control is taken care of by the normal crew in their quarters.

The damage control party which is separate from the compartments, is this party used under special conditions where the normal crew at their quarters can not handle the damage ?? If we assign crewmembers to the special damage control party, do they get put back in their normal quarters after the damage is fixed ?

I did a search but this question was not asked....

You must 'activate' the repair crew yourself by going to 'Battlestations' (B-key). Essentially, you are ordering every crewmember in every shift on standby, with bonusses to every compartment (ie. increased torpedo loading times, watchcrew is more alert, etc). However, since everyone is 'working' they can't rest and they will get tired over time. So don't use it all the time, pick your moments.
