I have been tinkering with the menu_1024_768.ini file for hours now and I cannot get the bearing indicator on my attack periscope to appear at the top where it should. So much for my first modding experience. :oops: Anyway this pic should make this clear.

See how the bearing indicator is at the bottom? I would like to move it to the top where it should be. I added a text box in my pic as a visual aid.

So could you menu_1024_768.ini experts out there please help. THANKS!!!

I don't have the addon yet, so I don't know if the .ini numbers are different, but what you want to look for is the section that starts with "Name=Page attack periscope" (quotes added, remove them for any searches).

Then look for the section that starts with "Name=Compass" (again, quotes added) in the same "chapter" (the G number). You'll see a zone statement in that section. The last two numbers are used to adjust the x,y position on the screen for the object. The last number is the one that adjusts the vertical positioning. Using a positive number should move the object upwards. Not sure exactly how many pixels you want to move it, but that should get you started.

As, always, it's a good idea to back up your original file (or at least copy paste the line you are changing and comment the new line out with a semi-colon ( ; ) in the first position so that, if you get it all FUBAR, you can get it back to where it was to begin with.

Credits to zAmboni for his wonderful tutorial (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=111832) on interpreting the menu.ini:up: It's worth it to save it as an html file on your system to refer to if you plan on playing with the menu.ini much.

Quagmire, put your wits back in your head! You're going to need them to understanding the tutorial for "Deconstructing the menu_1024_768.ini file" by zAmboni. The link to is several part series is here:

The Periscope screen section is [G26] of the menu_1024_768.ini file. The particular bit your looking for is in the [G26 I134] entry. I'm going to give you a different "Zone" line for you to try but I caution you, this may not work as prescribed because I've not tried the resulting change with the Bearing Indicator your wanting to move.

My suggestion is for you to read the zAmboni first section until you have a pretty good idea of what your looking at, then try and understand the changes the Zone line I give you will make. The why, or how is important, so it makes sense to you in moving the object you desire. It's not easy but, if I can do it, so can you.

Put a ; in front of the old Zone line to (like this ;Zone= 111 222.......) to keep the game from reading the old figures. Then just above it, copy this exactly
into the section:

Zone= 212 732 600 128 0 1 0x26000002 0.5 1.8 0x26000004 0.1 0.5 0 0

Each figure has a meaning and reason for being, learn what they are and what they do and you'll be moving things around and resizing them like you know what your doing. :know:

Instaed of manually changing lines in the menu_1024_768.ini give JTxE a chance to show you how helpful it could be playing with the damned menu_1024_768.ini file.

You're right jimimadrid, your tool to change the text files bit by bit with JTxE is the most usefull tool I've seen this side of JSGME. You're also correct to glean the posts to bring up your utillity because so many modders don't use JTxE. If we all did, many compatiblity problems would be gone for good!!! The problem I see is the Supermods arn't taking the lead in having their text or .cfg files under JTxE use. This pushes the rest of us in order to be compatible, to take the Supermods cloned files and merge them with your own. A timely business when the Supermods change versions like changing your socks.
