I have a Porpoise boat (USS-176 Perch) in current career, 16 torpedoes are not enough.
So I'd like to edit some files to get a Salmon/Sargo or Tambor/Gar or Gato.
How to do it?

I believe in your documents sh4 folder has the save career, game and all that, open them with notepad and make changes to all of your files and save the changes. I would wait in case I'm misinformed myself.

There are two-three files (cfg files if not mistaken) that will say career track etc, look for the lines that have your current submarine name on your current patrol and change the name and type of fleet boat. Do this when you are back in base. If you get a ctd, you missed a file and/or change of type and name. Or even easier ( I know, don't want to lose the bags) start a new career w/a more advanced boat.

I just looked a bit closer to the files, the activeuser file in the save game folder looks to be the sticking point (at least for me) because of the values of the boat itself. If you wanted to upgrade to a sargo/salmon class I could copy it and pm it to you but doing it by hand looks to be a pita. Unless you wait for more knowledgable people to help out. Sorry, I thought it was easier. Give it a day before you decide.
