Hi all,

For some time I've wanted to make this small mod.

We are playing onboard a German u-boat, with German crew voices, listening to German music - yet all the labels are in English...

This mod changes that. All on-screen labels/descriptions are now in German - but the rest is still in English for ease of use (tooltips, messages etc.)

This is purely for eye-candy.

Personally I feel its more immersive, but a couple of things to note -

For torpedo strike, its no longer Impact or Magnetic (I or M), now its Auswirkung or Magnetisch so the dial now reads A or M.

For torpedo speed its no longer Slow, Medium or Fast (S-M-F), but now Langsam, Mittel & Schnell L-M-S.

Also, to the lower left of the GUI direction it now reads 'Back' instead of Port and Kts is now Kt.

The recognition manual now has headers in German too for ship length, speed etc. (see shot below).

This has all been based on OLC's excellent GUI en_menu.txt file, so it will work with ANY version of his mod and future releases. I don't know about stock, I only installed GWX2.0 today and wanted to get this finished.

The large majority of German text came from the de_menu file with a few exceptions. If there is anything incorrectly typed, or there are other terms known to be used at the time please let me know and I can modify it.

It's JSGME ready, so once extracted copy it to your MODS folder, BUT ensure you enable it immediately after enabling OLC's GUI. You will get a message that files are already modified by OLC-GUI - thats perfectly OK - the files are from his mod (thanks OLC  )

Here's the download link page (small filesize 782kb). EDIT: version 1.1 uploaded, now contains chronometer title of U-JAGD STOPPUHR (thanks Joe) in place of what is shown in Attack Peri view below:

I would just like to say a huge thank you to OLC for showing me what to do with this, he certainly knows his stuff - Cheers Mate!!! :know:

Enjoy!!

I like it! But I don't use OLC-GUI. Still, I like the German names on the Compartments of the Crew Management screen, and the rest.

Nice work - but if you do an update i think that the U-jagd Uhr could be better named U-jagd Stoppuhr.

If you don't mind having all the message texts in German too, then just select Text:German in options. It's how i play, and i find i can understand everything but not always all the detail in the messages. My German's improved this way too, although german acquaintances may look at you with a puzzled expression when all you seem to know with confidence is

"Schiff gesichtet! Sehr kurze Entfernung!"
"Lagewinkel"
"Vorhaltrechner"
"Wasserbomb"
"Schusswinkel"
etc..

I have now uploaded a new version with the full 'U-JAGD STOPPUR' label included. See 1st post above - link is the same.

I tried playing with German text on, but I couldn't always figure out the rest of the messages, so this is a good compromise. I agree with your second comment - imagine sitting in a restaurant in Berlin trying to speak the language, and all that comes out of your mouth is U-Boat terms...... that would be an interesting meal!

Cheers

Nice work and thanks a lot, installing now.

Steve, it'll probably work with stock. Try it. Also worth trying with NYGM, or whatever you play now. It'll should definitely work with non-OLC GWX, at least.

You're probably right. Since it only changes the texts, if all else fails I can probably just follow the instructions and make just the changes I want myself. We'll see if I'm talented enough for that.:rotfl:

Hi SailorSteve,

If you download the mod, I have included a comprehensive list of ALL text that was changed - I have included the original English text and the German translations along with their location no. in the en_menu file.

It's very easy to use that info to modify it.

Cheers!

You were right; simple copy and paste; worked like a charm. And it looks great!

Of course now I have no idea what it says...:rotfl:

Is there anychance a version of this mod could be made to be compatible with OLC's latest UBER special GUI mod ? It only means removing the (x2) text from the mast height text on the recognition manual. Currently the (x2) text sits on top of the actual mast height value now that double mast heights are no longer required by the uber GUI.

Many thanks....

Hi UG,

Yes, a compatible version is available. I put the download link in ILC's Ubermod thread, guess I should have updated this one too.

Here's the direct link: http://files.filefront.com/EngGerLabels+OLCGUI+GWX21rar/;10038788;/fileinfo.html

Readme included with full info.

Cheers!
