How to disable SH3 Commander's thermal layers?

Suppose I want to play GWX2, but with no simulate thermal layers. However, I still want to use SH3 Commander.

How would I disable to feature of SH3 Commander?

It looks to me like I can just comment out that entire section with semi-colons in Randomised Events.cfg or simply backup the CFG file and delete that section.

Is that the right way to do it?
