Regardless, I want to make the deckgun useable in storms and then let me decide whether it is useless or not. I don't know how many times I have tried to use it on a mild sea and can't..

Please, the file
thanks

Data/Submarine/NSS_Uboat7b (for example)/NSS_Uboat7b.CFG

Under [Properties] see StormConditions=

Stock is set for 7, GWX set for 11. 15 is the highest the game goes.

If you use SH3 Commander and set the waves for x2, it won't seem so mild.

that only affects the storm condition. I want to know where the deckgun setting that says it can't be used in storms period.....

There is no .cfg file persee. The large files probably is it but it needs something to read it or edit it. Is SH3 commander the utility to use ?

Just hold the cursor over each file. They might not be in the same order mine are. One of them is a CFG file, and can be opened and edited with NotePad. I don't think there is a line that says it can't be used. You just have to set it for 15, and then it can be used anytime.

Go to Data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat7c\NSS_Uboat7c.cfg and edit the Storm Conditions line to this:

StormConditions=15,0.9;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

15 is the wind speed and 0.9 is the rain intensity. If you are using another boat, just go to that folder and edit that boat's .cfg file.

Occasionally there will be waves that are too high when you still can't use the gun but with this setting your deck crew you can use the gun 99% of the time. Although they will need scuba gear to man it.

if i may suggest a thing:

rain intensity is intended to be between 0 and 1.
if you set it at higher than that, for ex. 1.55, you will be able to shoot in the rain.
Wind to 99 or something

recently discovered that in my IXB and awarded the deck gun crew a medal for dedication in service.

Be advised.....if you change the Storm Conditions settings upwards, your crew will be able to man the deck gun in a storm, but the trade off is they will not wear their oilskins anymore http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

but for the added tonnage they will get daily grog rations...
GROG! delicious, heart-warming GROG!
On a U-boot with not even "a beer a day" service!
and for that price, i bet you some of these boys would man the deckgun in a storm... NAKED.
