Anyone made the mission to shoot down a bus over the pacific yet?

...is that even possible? :hmm: (I mean within the realms of the mission editor. Obviously, it's possible IRL.)

EDIT: Bah! ...wrong forum. If someone would be so kind...

As a threshold matter, you'd need a custom database that had the SM-3, target "bus," and a Lake Erie separate from the other Ticos. But what do you do from there with the playables we have? You could have them do ASW security/penetration for the Lake Erie, but really, that isn't much different from the stock TBMD mission, or any other area defense scenario for that matter.

Huh? Bus, Pacific, Lake Erie?? Wat weird wargame are you guys talking about. Or is there a movie I didn't see or something?

Round 10:30 last night the Aegis Cruiser, USS Lake Erie, shot down that falling spy satellite (bus) with an SM3 missile somewhere near Hawaii.

Edit: I guess technically they didn't shoot it "down" so much as blast it into smaller bits.

What would be player supposed to do in such mission? Just fire SM-3 at certain time??

I dunno, maybe it's harder to find a satellite... and position ships within a given time window? Maybe China or some other country could be opposed to the action?

Just a way to capitalize on current headlines as a way to generate interest. I haven't done anything with the mission editor, so I was wondering if it was even possible to actually have a target in low orbit (or very high altitude) to shoot at. I agree it wouldn't be too much fun to just arrive at a location and shoot off an SM3.

Well, it may be good idea for a campaign mission scenario.

Real satellite was intercepted at about 130 nm (~800,000 ft) whereas in mission editor max altitude for planes doesn't exceed 40,000 ft. I checked that E-3 SENTRY can climb up to 39,999 ft.

But, after all, I think it's worth trying to create such mission.

Sorry, but there are no playable Ticos in DW. Any scenario would be limited to supporting the Tico.
