I see an elevator and rudder along with landing gear and what looks like an engine and possibly wings...
Some sort of post-WW1 biplane perhaps?

02-15-08, 05:51 PM
Is it one of those observation helicopters they were going to deploy on U-Boats?
Madox58
02-15-08, 05:51 PM
Most definitly WWII.
Not the Bachstelze.

Awwww I thought at first you were doing the Gyrocopter used by the Monsoon boats in the Indian Ocean for recognition :88) Is that already included in SH4 expansion??
Madox58
03-12-08, 04:41 PM
Actually,
I am going to do a FA-330.
The model work is simple.
Figureing out a way to work it in game is the hard part.
:hmm:
No matter how it's implemented,
someone, somewhere will carp about it.
I'm open to suggestions.

The Germans had a helicopter? I thought those things were a relatively new invention
Madox58
03-12-08, 05:03 PM
They had 2 that actually served on Combat fronts.
the Drache and the Kolibri.
The FA-330 was a gyro that had no engine.
the sub had to bust out full ahead to get enuff wind up for it to rise.

gimpy117
03-12-08, 09:04 PM
looks like a Hydroplane submarine,
im guessing that those are 4 torpedos on the "wing" most likley they are non reloadable .
the boats object was (i'm guessing) to be submerged and go out to an attacking ship
it would then surface closer to a target and make a high speed run on it.
Jimbuna
03-13-08, 04:56 AM
@Wolfehunter.......no, not James Bond mate, definitely WWII.
@gimpy117....very close sir.
I'm just waiting on MM to come in on this.....he's probably waiting on responses to his PM's from privateer
@MM........payback for the Bates bottle-thrower challenge ;)

the details.
Mush Martin

I did nearly post on this last night but decided to wait as it seemed a
ressurected thread.
I have no Idea what it actually is but I would have to go with
the Bates four tubed Swath hulled two man composite submarine
fighter with fibre optic sensor mast,,,,,,,naw too wordy.
@ Jimbuna, Theres no revenge to be had by you and no way for me
to better the eight barrelled bottle thrower thing. as far as Im concerned
you did your best with WWII's most obscure weapon of all and I cant
top that.
M:rotfl:
[edit] after scrutinizing the first 3d image I will change my guess
to experimental attack hydrofoil

Mush Martin
03-13-08, 07:56 AM
Keeeeen
What I have on it.
a derivative of the Schwertwal prototype,
Schwertwal
appriximated between 11 & 14.7 tons
two 21"TT or 1 mine?
surface speed / not noted
submereged speed/ 25-30kts
schwertwal unlike manta may have
reached completion the notes indicate
that schwertwal was itself an
evolution of the type XXVIIF which
listed a proposed weaponry itself of
the rocket torpedo's.
(they would have had to solve supercavitation
wouldnt they I am dubious as to whether
they couldve done then even with more time)
its also noted that schwertwal had more speed
than could be safely managed by its crew. the final
note indicates that manta may have been simply
two schwertwal hulls pinned together to form a
new craft.

It's getting there.
Alot of the detailed skin work is from Mark Adam's Kolibri for Flight Sim.
I've asked permission to use his skin, with modifications as needed for the Sh series.
I hope he grants permission as I am not a graphics person.
However, it still looks nice!!

Received this from Mark Adam's regarding his skin.
"Hi Jeff
I am happy for you to use the textures as long as you credit them to "Mark Adams www.dodosim.com" and they are only used in freeware.
I don't know anything about Silent Hunter, if it has a Gmax plugin it might be easier to export my model in the correct format than to finish off your own.
The main LOD exterior model has 18700 polys, I don't know how that compares to the SH platform.
Good luck and I would really like to see how it is developing
Regards
Mark Adams"
