1) Is there a way to ships that you've sunk never come back to the game in campaign? If you sink the HMS Hood, there he is in the very next day sailing as never happened. So, is it possible?

2) OLC and UBOAT are two excelent mods, but not compatible so far... does anybody knows if they will be compatible in next versions?

To answer your first question, yes it's possible, because the campaign script does not change according to your sinkings.

Hi!

WRT Question #1: AFAIK it is not possible to modify the campaign dynamically within the game so that ships that you have sunk do not reappear. For example, in GWX you can sink HMS Hood as many times as you please, but HMS Hood will only disappear from the game after the date on which it was sunk historically by Bismarck: May 24, 1941.

Making it so the ships you sank did not respawn could have some very huge implications.

Essentially it would turn SH3 (and GWX) into a "what if" type scenario where a single Kaleun's actions could create devastating ripples in the space/time continuum that could alter the outcome of the war.

Given America's role, Germany would still lose due to the obvious military-industrial production of the U.S., but you may alter events to the point that Britain might just fall to the Reich or Germany came out in a stronger position to make the war drag on a few more years (which might make getting a Type XXI U-Boat less of a tease).

I'd sure hate to be the one that had to script such a campaign, but it does shatter the illusion when you sink a ship like the H.M.S. Hood only to find her merrily sailing along a few days or even hours later.

I suppose the only way to balance such chaos that could create would be to make your odds of survival the same as it was in reality, a 75% chance you'd become fish food every time you left port.

Yeah, so maybe it is possible but its just way too hard long work to do...

Imagine if britain falls and their ports become german...

but anyway, the game ends in may 1945 and its hard-coded, right?

sure would be very cool to play a "what if" mega mod with distorted history...

The game can be altered to end whenever you like - IIRC there was a mod around that had it running in 46
However sinking a ship and never having it reappear can only be done by editing the Campaign files and Roster folder everytime you sink a major warship
So if you sink the Hood in Dec 39 then you will have to rewrite its cfg to end on the day you sunk it
Then rewrite ALL the Hood entries on the campaign files to another unit or remove them
Something you can only do in port after your patrol

Hello,

Answering question #2. The OLC GUI 1.1.5 and U-BOAT were made compatible by me late January, and there is also a short thread of it (only few people were interested at the time?). The mod however sacrifices a few very nice features of the U-BOAT (see the information behind the link below) so it is not possible to make it "complete" in that sense. But it still works anyway.

I have not been working on the latest OLC 1.2.1 version. JC and OLC are probably making work with their mods (I do not know exactly) so soon there will luckily be another compatibility needed I suppose. :hmm: :)

im talking about every single ship, including merchants... i belive that every single ship would have to have its own id, and that would be a mod over 10gb, and a external program would remove one by one during gameplay, sunk by u or other ships/subs/nature... sure would be awesome, but at what cost?
