I've almost finished the Merchant Fleet Mod Beta. I am posting the download link either this evening or tomorrow. Could you PM me if you're interested and have the time to test it?
Ideally, your computer should exceed the requirements for stock SH3. Any system with at least an Nvidia 6800 or 7800GT (or the ATI Radeon equivalent) should be OK. I would like testers for default SH3 and GWX/NYGM, if possible.

Note to beta testers - there is an issue with the folder paths of the mod. I am going to upload a new version (1.2) and I will PM the link in the next few minutes. Password will be the same. In the meantime, do not download Beta 1.1 if you haven't already.
If you have figured out how to get it running, go ahead and play - It won't hurt your game; it's just that there's a confusing folder path error that slipped by me.

Another issue for the beta testers (thanks, Von Manteuffel) - for all instances of "englishnames.txt" in the readme, replace with "englishnames.cfg". This will be corrected in the final version.
The challenge for bugs is started!

I will need to make adjustments to the rec manual so that the sizes listed are accurate. onelifecrisis was good enough to point me to a measuring program so that I can calculate the size of the ships' masts.

Hi Iam,
i have corrected the waterreflections from one ship to find out an easy and fast way to do it for every ship of your nice Mod !
The Tanker T08B was my first subjekt.
Here the result of 1 hour work :

If you wanne do it by yourself, its very easy cause every ship of your mod got two shd-obj.-files, one for bow and one for stern.
You can use them also for the reflection-obj.-files.
You only have to small them down which means that you have to delete some small parts which you never can see on waterreflections.
After this you can use the catarg-obj.-files also as the reflections-obj.-files.
Set the MinVisDim to 0,05 and the MaxVisDim to 2,0 and the "Z" position of the catarg-reflections-obj.-files to 0.0 and the vessel got right reflections like mine !
It takes a long time to work it out for nearly 70 ships so my idea is that we need some people to help us.
I will do it for the tankers, enough work for me and if somebody will do it with another 20 merchants the reflections of your whole fleet will be corrected in 2-3 days !

Iam on the way to fix all the reflections of your T-ships and the 3Dmodells are already fixed.
I only need your last Dat-files with the fixed box-zones for making the final Datīs !

Yes - the double entries occur when the US and the UK share a ship type. IThat reminds me - I will try deleting some of the duplicate rec manual images to see what happens.

Note to beta testers - I discovered a bug with the tanker designated T08B that causes a CTD when the ship explodes. I am going to send you a link to a new version of the ship tomorrow. It is free of the CTD and also has various improved details. Unfortunately the reflection work will have to be redone.

Heavy merchant 1 took 3 torps to bring down. I was going to mention the bow wave being out of place as well.
Medium merchant 19 seemed good. Not too sure about the reflection tho or if it my crappy video card. 2 torps and 10 gun hits to bring down.

I've hears complaints about them being too easy or too hard, so I will check the HP values for consistency. I would like to up the hit points on the very large tankers and large freighters so that they almost never sink due to loss of HP's. Instead they should mainly be destroyed through cargo explosions or accumulated flooding.
emaluzer, your card does not have a bug - it is a problem with the models that another user and I will correct before the final release.

I wish I could be a Beta tester for you mod as well (I have been waiting for years for this), but my laptop won't run the game well enough and I won't return home to my good computers for a couple of weeks.:cry: I'm still willing to check them out in the museum though, if that would help.

I'll PM you the link. Can your laptop run SH3 at all? If it can, then several of the new merchants in a convoy shouldn't hurt framerates.
I know the campaign won't load, but I have been able to get single missions with one or two ships to load for GWX testing - I imagine one convoy may work. If not, I'll just create more limited missions myself - those would probably be alright.:yep: Only one way to find out...:hmm: It will probably have to be with stock SHIII instead of GWX 2.0 though, but that will be alright for what I need right now.

In actuality, some of the ships for "Danger from the Deep" can have their names painted on the bow or stern. Each ship has the port and starboard side modeled separately, with support for an extremely high level of detail.
I came across an interesting story about the sinking. During the attack, U-43 was able to positively identify the tanker because one of the sub's officers had actually been a mate on board her before the war, when she was still owned by Germany. :doh: His commander said the whole thing was a sad experience for him - especially b/c there was a terrible gale and it was hopeless for the crew to abandon ship.
I've been viewing you ships all day - haven't found any problems at all so far (other than a few minor UV Mapping issues). These ships simply look perfect to me.:rock:
My laptop has indeed proven too slow and choppy to run a complicated mission; however, tomorrow afternoon, I will see if I can put together a couple of simple test missions to see how they sink.:D For that is what merchants in this game are intended, after all....:hmm:
My favorites, BTW, are the medium freighter M05A, and the older two-funneled passenger liner P03A.:yep: I like them all though, of course.

I attacked and after the torp hit the British medium merchant 15 the fire seemed to be coming from the lower hull and was on and off masked by the hull. This pic may help explain:

It has to do with where the fire zoning box is placed. They are movable though - this may be worked on before release.
Working on a replacement for the merchant M20B; it is a steamer of maybe 3800 tons. M19B has already been replaced with a more realistic-looking ship.

Two of the ship models in the beta version have been replaced. Other ships are being checked for comparatively minor 3d modeling errors that the beta testers reported. Because of the changes that have been made, several recognition manual images need to be redone. There is also extensive work being done on the .zon files so that the sinking behavior is as diverse as possible.

If I remember rightly, GWX 2.1 is in the final testing stages and is not open to any new ship models.
It won't matter really, because once these are installed to the proper folders the random campaign layer will add them to convoys and individual sailings automatically. The only difference it makes is to the ships in harbors, as they have to be scripted in.

Would you guys like it if I released it in the next week or two? Maybe around the time when the SH4 addon and/or GWX 2.1 comes out? I want to try to release when a large number of people are interested in the game.
Not every issue can be fixed before then but no serious, CTD-causing bugs remain AFAIK. This has taken an insanely long time (about two years) and I may as well get it over with...

Surprised you like P03A - that ship is kind of outmoded & weird. :) I agree that M05A looks nice - it's an interesting composite superstructure type from late WWI-early post WWI era.

To the beta testers - out of curiosity, have any of you tried to use the "MFMSkin" batch files so that you can have camoflage skins late in the war? I've noticed that all of your screenshots are of early war paint schemes.
BTW, a major update is nearly complete. The following vessels have been replaced with improved models:

The fix to the Ross/McKnight class tanker (# T08B) will be incorporated.
The update will also feature improved skins. I have developed a new technique for improving the weathering effects, using rust textures from the default SH3 ships (yes, the same ships I used to badmouth all the time back in 2005). :roll:
If I am satisfied with this version I may make it the release version, after completing a few tweaks.

Yes but there are going to be some major changes. Some of the cruder-looking ships are being replaced with brand new models (as mentioned above). The ships in the next beta will have even more details, and some errors have been corrected. If you want I will send you the next beta once it's finished.
BTW, one thing I hope to implement is ships with zon files that represent unique cargoes. For instance, maybe a ship is loaded with lumber and takes a long time to sink - or maybe it's carrying iron ore and goes down in less than a minute.

Uh, I take it that your ships are compatible with OLC's Ujagd tool ? I mean by this that the ship's dimentions and values (in meters) are accurate in order to use his mod for firing torpedoes ?

I measured all of the mast heights several days ago. Someone sent me an obj file of a "ruler" that can be used to measure ship parts.

Just Curious, Been Doing The Pacific For A While, Got Bored Again After The New Uboat Add On, Is Nice To Look At, But It's Effectivly Knocked Out So Many Good Mods.
Am Very Intertested In The Next Update For Gwx. I Payed For The Latest Gwx But Have Not Really Played It Since I Learned The Mod Team Were Going To Tweak It Even More And That The Iambecomelife Merchant Fleet Was Almost Ready For Release. Will The Merchent Fleet Mod Be Compatable With The Next Gwx Update?
I Recon Sh3 Will Be Almost A New Game Withe The Two Of These So I Wonder If Any One Has A Date For Either Or Both?

Just want to let you know that besides of the earlier problems I mentioned I haven't found anything else wrong so far that hasn't been mentioned by the other Beta testers!!!!

Still I continue test BETA 1.2 with later fixes but didnt find bugs except that was mentioned earlier.
How many new ships will be in final version of this incredible mod ??
