View Full Version : How to make VIIB come with 105 Deck Gun?

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and this place seems to be the best place for SH3 MOD discussion. I love tweaking games, so after playing Naval Academic, the first thing I did was start tweaking.

I got 3 questions at the moment and wondering if you guys can help. Thanks in advance.


Question 1:

How do you change the VIIB so it comes with the 105mm Deck Gun?

As you know only the VIIC or later can have a 105mm Deck Gun...normally:D, while the VIIB comes with a 88mm one.

The reason I want to do this is because I want to boost the shell's damage, and only the 105mm shell is NOT used by any AI ships (found this info by using Mini Tweaker to look into related files. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this one).


Question 2:

[ If the default deck gun can not be changed, then the only alternative way I can think of is to make VIIC appear in 1939......after a bit of research seems that if you simply modify a sub's year0 value in Basic.cfg to make it appear earlier, then your 2nd patrol location will be "0" instead of the normal "AM24, AL36".....do any of you know any bug free solution or work around for this? ]


Question 3:

I understand the most part of the Basic.cfg and some other cfg files, but one part of the Basic.cfg puzzled me: contents of the [SUBMARINE0], [SUBMARINE1], etc.

Can someone provide some explaination of this section please? Like those NbComp=11, Comp0=0, Nb0=5......"comp" must mean "computer" I assume:-?.

The 0 patrol grid only happens when bringing the XXI forward, and that's only because all the solutions posted here leave out a key step. That step is not needed for other boat types.

Thank you Mikhayl, your solution worked perfectly. My 300-360 damage, 600 rounds/minute 105mm deck gun owns all battle ships in the game:D. Gets boring after a while though, ah well.

And thank you JScones, now I know I can safely bring all the subs forward except XXI:).
