Editing the "News of the Month"

Anyone know where the "News of the Month" program is hidden and how it can be edited? That's the black and white, simulated typewritten piece in the upper right of the screen as the chosen Career is loading. Could include the boat number, often part of the message is overwritten by the commander's name, etc., etc. Would be nice to look at something else while waiting for the load to finish.

It's a part of SH3Cmdr. The controlling file is at ...\SH3 Commander\Cfg\Menu variable_**.txt.

Editing is quite straight forward; refer to the instructions at the top of the file. Delete the file or each line 46 entry if you want to revert to OTS SH3 text.

PS: The overwriting is an SH3 display limitation. It only occurs when reloading saved games and can only be mitigated through shortening the news text.

JScones: Got it. Many thanks for the reply. It seems to me there should be a string lurking somewhere rather like "Submarine Number: %s" that could be inserted. I presumed that the overwrite was a string length problem, but it always seems to be the commander's name that does the overwrite. Will look at that.
