schnorchel use-- I thought use of the the schnorchel allowed battery recharging and

fresh air/exhaust exchange while submerged ( at schnorchel depth)- yet when I "rise schnorchel" my electric engines continue to run despite a full crew in the diesel engine compartment- am I missing something? thx
