View Full Version : Model switch by year?

I have different models of the Port La Pallice, in the historic development stage until 1942 and then from 1943.
Is it now possible to include a model into the game depending on the year ?
My tests so far:
With the locations.cfg I can currently include only a model not changeable over the time. With SH2 it was possible to switch a model in a period of time.

Using the date function of SH3commander is possible to change whatever files you like over time :up:

I think SHCommander will not help me, just as I would like to implement this feature. :hmm:
Example of what I need:
I have build a complete new 3D port (La Pallice) and included it into the SH3 world. Now in a campaign when I'm leaving La Pallice in April 1942 through the flood gates, I see on my left side the construction of the new flood gates shelter and the beginning of the construction for the additional subpens boxes. If I come back after two months, these constructions are extend or already completed. This stage I have modelled in a second 3D model of La Pallice, and this second model seeks to replace the first model, "on the fly" as in SH2.:yep:

Well I guess over a 2 month patrol you will be saving ?
On a reload using SH3commander date based objects are added if the time is right
Tis the only way I can think of unless JSGME then in at the right time which is what commander would be doing anyway
You can either replace the dat or the terrain,cfg
[Location 101]
Long=-1.182650
Lat=46.156445
Heading=180
OnLand=false
ShowOnMap=true
FileName=La_Rochelle < your new file name
LocationName=La Pallice
Or a new entry on the terrain.cfg
The date function would then add either in

I assume he want this switching feature during the gameplay without save/reload :hmm:
Traveling from France to the US. coast and back with time compression and if two or three months in game units are passed, then the port should looks different.

if hes out when the date comes up nothing changes when he makes
port nothing changes when he respawns coming out of port after the
date the new port model will show. I dont think its that deep.
just clone the new base as a new type and put it in the lnd layer
on a date trigger.
does it really go any deeper? maybe I am missing something??

Hi Seeadler
I would hate for this post to be lost. I'm afraid I have no answers to your question:cry: . However I have one or ten of my own. How do you modify these harbour models? What software do you use? How do you test? (surely you don't reload SHIII every time you make a change?) I have tried modding using various apps, but all I seem to be able to do is take away from existing models, rather than designing a new and more realistic one. Patience is another asset! Making a change and then going into SHIII each time to see if its worked is a real PITA!
The port that really bugs me is St Nazaire :nope:.
