Hey guys!

Due to the lack of motivation/mod-members and the upcoming addon, and the need of uboats in SH4, I want to share my goals. Maybe we can work together to complete the subs and get all the functions of them working...


I've got the Typ 7c working, with snorkel, guns, conings, etc. The tower-crew is US, in the controlroom without textures. There are some other issuses, like the missing radioroom or US-sensors, but its full playable. (State of progress and screenshots can be found in the AS-sticky)



Read carfull!

The download contains the complete directorys where files are modded. You have to copy serveral *.tga from sh3/data/textures from your sh3-folder (I have no list of needed *.tga) by your own. All other files should be in the download. The few sh4 files I modded are V1.3, but these are only from /data/upcdata/upcunitsdata.
For a working snorkel, you have to add the keyboard-command with Cavalier889's setkey by your own.

I'll share the files as pre-alpha, at your own risk. Don't forgett to backup changed files.

Use it, modify it, but share the improvements.

Hello friends of the good taste!
If u like german subs like me, u need this in sh4:

It is a playable Type VIIC Uboat!
-playable
-crew management is working
-Periscopes are working
-UZO is working
-Conningslot is working
-Us interior with 3d characters
-Watchcrew is invisible, but they see ships
-Deck gun works
-Flak doesn't work
-Japans are friendly
-Jsgme ready
it is only a fun test version, nothing big! there are enough bugs...
if u think u can improve it(i.e. making a german campaign and so) let me know!

That is great. With the new addon that from what I can tell gives the player some super uboat, this should come in handy.

this would be a LOT of work but it could be done.

I hade the program half a year ago installed. and was in the beginning very surprised much, however, pleases with store away then the fields were blank I had changed. Thus I came back to the Hex editor again. I hope it that now more solidly runs.
Well, I have no experience with this editor!!
Please help me for this the nice mod.

I've just tested it. It works as advertised, meaning it looks like a type VII on the outside. However, inside it is still a US sub. Dunno about importing type VIIs, but I've been successfully able to import a type II also with the interior and conning tower by using the instructions given here:

if u disable the mod(s) for a while u can test it again

I can use the sh3 interior but it looks ugly because there is no crew and the dials aren't working...

I deleted the mod meanwhile, but I think I can replicate it later today. Please PM an email address and I'll send it as soon as I get it working again.

Yes, you have no conning tower because of what Matzeesn said later on in the thread:
"Disable the externelnodename3d=z01 ([userplayerunit 1.unitpart 1]). SH4 can't handle links like this, so you got no conning (and all of its subsystems like periskope)."

Edit: Finally I got the type II up and running again, obviously with limitations - no working dials, no crew, but the interior is the right one, from SH3. Anyway, I think I'll wait for the upcoming addon due end-February, as this will have crew and interiors made by the devs, specifically adapted for SH4.

Thanks a lot, Matze:up: Downloading now, as I'm typing. I feel your type VII will come in more than handy when the much-awaited add-on surfaces, three weeks from now. Meanwhile, I'll test it and try to understand the changes, also based on the advice you gave in the aforementioned old thread.
As you mentioned the radio room, we'll see one fully functional in the add-on, as a dev wrote on the Ubi forum, IIRC.

Most of changes ar in the *.upc-files. For the sub and conning, I cloned the porpoise-files and edited them. The biggest problem was to understand the linking-system, and the problem that "a" isn't "A". One typo, and you get nothing working. I cloned the weapon/equipment-entries and renamed the links and edited some values. If you know how the *.upc work, it's easy (but much work).


Only for the crew I edited the *.dat of the conning and interior.
And the crew is my biggest problem. The game ignores the SH3-crew-entries, so I copied them from SH4. And now, I have the animations for US-subs (and their textures), but they doesn't fit to the german sub (take a look to the commandroom, the ger-divingplaneswheels are smaller than the US-ones).

The RR is ingame, but you can't go there. The only way is to fly with the freecam staright through the hatch, but I don't find the link to go there via clicking the hatch or use the menu...

Changing the sensors from US to ger is only editing of *.upc. This is not a big problem, but it takes much time. That's the reason, why I worked on other problems...

Is it normal, that the Crew inside the sub is black and untextured and the Deck gun

No, it's not normal, but I getn't fixed it. I have this problems, too.
Yes, the crew gets no textures. Maybe it's a .upc-problem, or the dat-file points to the sh3-crewtextures-folder. I didn't searched for a solution, because the us-crew is only a work-around. You need the animations from the ger-crew, from sh3...
For the problem with the main-gun: 1st idea is a problem with the cam. 2nd Idea is a problem with the gui.

The files you got are the lastest version I have. I stopped working on it in summer, last year. Now, I have new ideas and time to test. Maybe I get it working. I'll take a look...

Anyway, I'm happy that you like it, and that you get the sub ingame working.

would it be possible to create an ijn sub this way ? how can we edit the 3d sub model ?
I'd rather fight as a jap than as a german in the pacific !

usually it is not impossible...
In sh3 there is fore example the s-boot mod or the playable bismarck

but all my tests doesn't work becasue on the japan AI subs are no nodes and the conning iss already includet

so u have to animate a real modder who can use the silent 3ditor and the hex editor
i don't know
