It's July 1940. I'm happily patrolling West of the Straits of Gibraltar when along comes a nice, British Passenger/Cargo, obviously heading for Gib. :)

I manouevre into position and fire off a single torpedo, which hits just aft of the funnel. The ship gradually comes to a stop. Shells cost less than torpedoes, so I surface the boat to finish her off with the deck-gun. The Passenger/Cargo immediately opens fire with a stern mounted gun, but misses and a few rounds from my trusty, well-trained and hand-picked gun-crew destroy the gun. Now I can close in for the kill. :yep:

I'm about 1000 metres away from the ship, which is lying dead in the water and starting to burn quite prettily, when, suddenly, I hear " We are under attack, Herr Kaleun!" I don't use External Camera, so it's up to the bridge and out with the old binoculars. How can we be under attack? The ship's gun has been destroyed. Then I notice - almost amidships on the ship's starboard side, between two cargo stacks, a lone British matelot, firing either a machine gun, or a 20mm cannon!

Before I know it, it's "Men down on the deck" and I have an ex-gun crew. I had to man the flak guns and blast the be-jaysus out of that part of the ship while putting a substitute crew on the deck gun ( all 3 original crew deceased, I'm afraid ).

All I can say to the GWX2 Team is "Thank you, you sneaky so-and-sos!" I intend to proceed with my career very cautiously. Heaven knows what other surprises your wonderfully creative ( but twisted ) minds have included. Thanks. lads. It really makes a game into an experience.

P.S. I still think you're a bunch of sneaky buggers. I spent 5 patrols developing and training that gun-crew.:damn:

Thanks for the link. Is there anyway these can be used in GWX 2 gramaphone.

( all 3 original crew deceased, I'm afraid ).

If your unaware, right click on the dead crew member and they will disappear [representing a sea burial]

@ Laufen zum Ziel

Hi, You can use any of it in the gramophone. They're all mp3s so should run OK. Just remember they're all American and so all post-date America's entry into the War, so if that bothers you, use them after January 1941.

The big band stuff is nothing but music, so will run fine.

G.I. Jill will work if you drop the tracks into your Program Files/Ubisoft/data/Sound/gramophone folder and use SH3 Commander's "Randomise Gramophone Tracks" option. That way they'll play out just like a radio programme as in SH4.

I use the SH3 gramaphone like that, making it a radio, but with only one station.

Any probs please send me a PM.

Sorrry for the Bump, but Venatore's post appeared while I was writing a reply to Laufen zum Ziel.

Thanks, Venatore, I discovered how to dispose of the bodies almost by accident some time ago, but it's a good tip to share. I 'm not sure if it appears in any of the manuals. I gave them a decent burial at sea. It was a very moving, if brief ceremony.

There is a little quirk with SHIII if you bury them at sea: at the end of your patrol they do not show up as killed. Not sure why that is.

If I had my way, if your crew members die you should loose renown [and heaps of it]; this would in turn force you rethink decisions about situations.

And should you find a sabatour and shoot him you should get butt-loads of renown...:rotfl: :rotfl:

That would be a very interesting proposition :hmm:

Jim ( please forgive the familiarity ) I bow to your expertise.

Any way to do this?

If making such a penalty as a straightforward reduction in Renown is too difficult, perhaps it may be possible to ensure that the (Renown) cost of replacements when a Kaleun returns to base is increased and that there are no "0" Renown replacements. So, replacing dead crew will cost Renown? That would serve the same purpose. It may be a .cfg file re-write?

I'll have a look when I get home from the grindstone.

God, I love this forum - So many creative minds, so many pertinent questions, so many ideas.

I'm not too sure about your understanding of the term 'expertise' :hmm:

I always look for the easiest solution........any deaths during a patrol, change the delta renown figure by whatever value you consider appropriate
