View Full Version : [REL]Trigger Maru - Final version

Ducimus
01-24-08, 04:16 AM
Ive posted this in its own thread (as well as updated the mods stickied thread), because this is the final version. Yes, this time i mean it, Final - at least by me.

Heres the changelog:

//camera changes

- Career room office is fixed, you can once again look around.
- reduced the shaking. Given other settings in TM, the shake in the camera was excessive.
- Conning tower camera, allows for free movement.
- changed the view unit cam to follow a unit, and allow free movement instead of fixed sphereical view. Although its disabled by default, eyecandy maniacs and movie makers should appreciate this change the most.

//deck gun changes

- changed default texture of twin 20MM, and 4"50 cal to MS9 color scheme (black)
- created JSGME plugin to change above said guns to MS32 color scheme (handy after a refit, or if your running another skin)
- changed 4" 50cal availablity date from 1/43 to 6/42

//TBT
- Now properly named. I tried like hell to make it clickable on the bridge, but no joy.

//UI changes
- changed "goback to previous view keyboard command (Number pad INSERT key), to corresond with Gato interior layout. Other sub layouts in support directory.

- Changed Tooltip assigments to corespond with clickable crewmember functions.

// Torpedos
- slightly lowered depth error occurance chances
- changed torpedo color scheme, so torpedos can be more easily idenfied by sight.
- changed default torpedo loadouts depending on year of war.
- made a couple torpedos available 2 months earlier then normal, adjusted some renown costs.

// bombs.
- lowered armor peircing value of some airdropped bombs back to stock values.

// escorts
- increased ARmor protection value of escorts to 25, increased hitpoints to varying degrees not to exceed 400.

// Subs
- further reduced armor protection of submarines from 20, to 15 (stock value is 25)

- tripled hitpoints on diesal engines. (since we have 4 engines assigned to just 2 damage zones, you have double the chance of an engine being destroyed, hence i upped the hitpoints of said engine damage zones)

// interiors
- fixed all gauges, or at least made them operate like they do something important. Most important of which i think is the throttle.

- Gato interior has 600 ft depth gauge

-Interor sound fixes by SteveTRM

- Misc Texture fixes (Note: Gato interior has been modded to use its own textures, not shared by another boat. All interiors ahve been modded to have "blueprint.tga" on one desk, hence this file must be present or you'll see a black square where a map should be)

- Various crewman are now clickable. Clicking on these crewman will now bring you to various views that are normally accesed by function keys.

- Xmas tree made more distinct when submerged or surfaced.

// intergrated conning tower modifications from ROW

// Intergrated Sub reflections from ROW with historical propellers by kapitan_zur_see
- slighly reduced caustic so the caustic effect is not present on submarine main deck while surfaced.

// changed cloud mod from the version ive alwys been using to the same one modified to move even slower by Leovampire.

Installation order: (count to 3)
1_TMaru_Trigger_Maru_1.7.6
2_TMaru_Sound (or sound mod of your choice)
3_TMaru_GFX-ROW_Version_5

Also released in the same upload is the reworked interiors, complied into a single mod, seperate from Tmaru, so that other modders may use it.

Permissions:
Do whatever you want. Dont ask me for my permission, you don't need it, and even if you were to ask, i wont be around to answer you.

This is not only the final release of Tmaru, it is also my final post here on subsim. For many reasons, it is simply time for me to move on. I know some will be sorry to see me go, and others will be absolutely elated, but regardless, it is time for me to move on. Ah yes, i know, some will say, "sure sure, we've heard this before Duci".

And they'd be right, I've said this before. Theres a reality to face, and that is modding and subsim.com are rather addictive. To this end I've taken the additional step of asking Neal to ensure that i cannot be tempted to login again. At my request, which will be sent after im done posting this, my user account password will be scrambled, so i will no longer have access to it. Nor will i create a new one. I do this of my own volition, and my departure is voluntary. You can think of this as virtual Seppuku if you like.

Why? As I've said, it is simply time for me to move on. I wont get into all the reasons, only that the obsession or fixation ive developed with modding is taking an unfair toll upon my daily life. I don't think anyone will truly realize how much time I've spent. And not all the time ive spent is reflected into the mod, as ive had alot of what can be classified as "failed R&D" (Damn TBT!) But to give you some idea. I get up at 9:30AM or so, and start working on modding. I dont stop until around 12:50 when i must absolutely stop to get to work. (my commute is rather short now). I then work doing my job, sitting at a computer from 1PM to 9:30PM. I then get home by 10PM, and start modding again to 3AM. In summary, between work, and modding, i have been sitting at a desk from 9:3AM, to 3AM daily. And ive been doing this for the last 3 consecutive weeks. (ode to wife being out of town). I cannot tell you how much my ass hurts! I'm also genunely concerned about develpoing a blood clot or something, last thing i need is a trip to the hospital. So there you go, thats my daily life as of late , and i think ive done enough, and its time for me to put this down, and come back to reality. This addiction is becoming self destructive in a very real way when i think of all the things ive been neglecting in favor of trying to sort out SH4.

I don't normally brag, I am a firm believer in modesty, but i have to admit, i am proud of what ive been able to accomplish in SH4. I don't think its an exaggeration to say, that i took on a job that required a team, and i did the majority of it by myself. For that i feel that i can walk away with head held high. I often ask myself, what was my motivations behind the drive to keep up with Tmaru. Why do i keep at this? Hell, i dont even play the game anymore! I think my motivations were many, but primarly because this is the game ive wanted for years, and its initial state is undeniably disappointing. Rather then complain, i decided i was going to do something about it. At the time i started, I figured, if i don't, who else will?

My other reason, i think was some odd sense of patriotism. To me, a subsim, isnt just about submarines, its about history, and here was a game that dealt more directly with the history of my own home nation, and arguably one of its finest hours. Far be it from me to be flag waving, but for some reason, as a vet, i felt it was my duty to make sure that the memory of the accomplishments of these men was well represented and not cast aside or ignored. Such was my drive and motivation. All in all, I think I've done my best, and in the words of Gen. George Patton, "If a man does his best, what else is there?"

I have to admit, leaving is painful to do. Ive enjoyed the subsim community for some time, and i will miss it. I think ill end this post on this note.

One person here has contributed more to SH4, then I, or any other modder here; And that person, in my opinion is skwasjer. His avatar on this forum is very approriate. Zeus, king of the gods. It is his modding tool that has been in development that makes modding user friendly. He has empowered anyone here patient enough to do some trial and error testing to get into modding and further development for Sh4. Without exaggeration skwasjers work helped me to become a one man modding team. From using his tool, i learned about as much about the intriciacies of the files in the last two months, as i have in the last two years. For anyone wanting to further Sh4, all you need is
-S3D
- winmerge
- winzip
- Gimp or photoshop
- a TGA to DDS converter
- 3d model viewer if you have the software (i never did).

I wish i had the time to impart all the things ive learned over the years about the files in SH3 and SH4, but i also at this point in time lack the patience. When i think about it, its probably at least 12 pages of typing, and its much easier to explain such things in person then typing it out, so on that endeavor i degress, its time i must go.

Good luck, and good hunting!

You dont have to give any reasons for your actions mate, you have afterall given more time than many on these forums to the goal of making SH4 a more rounded playing experience with your TM series of patches!

I thank you for making this game something i enjoy playing.

Tnak you sir, for all your hard work. TMaru has made the game for me as I am sure the same is true for many here on these forums. I'm sorry to see you go, however, I understand your reasons. If a video game starts to take over your life it's time to put it down for a while. A digital life is no substitute for a real one.

Farewell and good luck for the future Ducimus.

p.s.

Try not to be so modest, you have acomplished a hell of a lot in your time here at subsim. Your mods have brought gaming joy to many people around the world you haven't eaven met. Theres no harm in taking pride in your acomplishments :up:

Just realised how patronising that sounds. Sorry, but as a man who has suffered with confidence issues for most of my life these thing are important to me.

I'm speechless Duci, this is tragic..... The reason I play SH4 is because of Trigger Maru and Dave's seminal work on ROW. I take my hat off to you for having the strength to walk away from something that has been such an obviously large part of your real life of late.

I don't know how I will do it my friend, but if I ever get back to the States, I will do my damndest to look you up in OC and buy you those many beers I believe I promised you some months ago.

you could always put it down over a few months and send

would have two legacies here. and what knowledge you
have gained would not be lost.

What ROW parts are included in the GFX section ? If not all then which ones have been left out. Also can Kriller's AddOn simply be over layered on this new version of TM ?

If anyone can shed some more light on this then that would be very helpfull.

Thanks...

You control the component elements of your life, Duci, not the other way around.

At the end of the day, Silent Hunter 4 is just a game. I balance my life between real life, playing the two video games that I own (SH4 being one of them) and Moderating here. I play the two games for a few hours at the weekend, Moderate here as much as possible while at work, and the rest of my time is real life.

It's all about creating balance. I can understand how modding can become compulsive and addictive, but you are in control, not the more compulsive side of your nature.

Go and find the right life balance for you, and then choose either to return here or not.

Your legacy is well established whatever you decide. Nobody can take that from you.

Kind regards,

Terry

HI all,

I send the work on the ROW addon to Ducimus and gived him permission to include it in this version of Trigger Maru and I have just examined this mod and it does contain the Row Addon!, this means that you don't have to install it on top of Trigger Maru.

It would have been nice if Ducimus wrote that in the readme :hmm: , well he was probaly in a hurry.

Thank you Ducimus for your work on Sh4 you are one of the reasons why I am still playing Silent hunter 4 (with RSWD) :rock:

I having been using TM in its' various forms since I started with SH4 and have never looked back. For me, TM (and ROW) have made SH4 what it is today and is the primary reason I keep coming back to play this sim time and again.

wow, thanks for the kind note, Ducimus. But really, I just provide a tool, and envy the mods that are made with it...

I'm sorry to see you go, because in my view only few people have shown to be as creative and succesful with what they set out to achieve as you have been, not to mention you've done alot alone. I don't want to step on any foot of those that have contributed to TM, but making it all work in a single mod is just a huge task for an individual.

But I understand it has taken a toll on your personal life and that is never a good thing. I have had the same expierence several years ago when I was totally addicted to another game, and it screwed my life up bad. The only solution for me was to do the same as you, call it quits and move on. Today, with SH4 I look at my priorities differently, and this allows me to balance things better.

Well, that leaves me to say, enjoy what you've achieved, enjoy your life, family and friends, and if one day there's a little bit of time left and -only if- you can resist putting on that 'mod' hat, come by and say hi!

See you!

Farewell, Ducimus.

Thank You for all the work you put into this sim. I wouldn't run SH4 without it.

Take Care and Good Luck.:up:

:-?

:shifty:

Apparently neal didn't scramble my PW. I had a feeling he didn't, but i didnt want to try and login to see if he did. . I don't know why, i can be pretty crotchity and loudly vocal when upset or frustrated, so i figured it would be a case of "GOOD RIDDENCE!". I'll be honest in say that i am REALLY AFRAID of the Pacific theater being sidelined or pushed aside. Its not that i have anything against uboats in and of themselves, i just realize how popular they are, and the fear of the pacific games progression being cut short or "stunted" (Ie stunted growth, like a malnurished pup), is a great concern of mine. It's the PTO that got me into subsims to begin with, so i admit i am greatly passionate about it. Having said that, i truly beleive i have done all that i could to make the Pacific game enjoyable and engaging.

I also still intend to fade back and focus on other things in my life. For instance, my wife is in rehab. Lots of consuling and that sort of thing going on. She needs more of time time. As i sit here, im getting ready to go to an awards ceremony for my kid bro. He made eagle scout!

I mean....Hot damn! Eagle scout! I remember when he was just born before i joined the military. Im pretty proud of him, yet i barely know him.

Anyway, Yes there will be a 1.5 compatible version of Trigger Maru Overhaul. I didnt spend all this time on it, just to let it die due to my own obstiance ETA, i cannot give. But i am aware of some of the file changes, and getting TMO compatible doesnt seem like it will be all that difficult. In the end there will be two versions. One for Sh4 1.4 and one for sh4 1.5, so the mod will run on either platform.

I will also state that TMO's focus will be strictly on the Pacific submarine war, and some changes may reflect this. I am seriosuly considering redoing the type9d2 and using it as substitute for a AI japanese submarine - which is sorely missing.

Be patient.

As an aside, why did TMO come about when 1.7.6 was my final version? I started playing, and i tugged on the proverbial string, and the whole sweater unraveled to me. I wasnt happy, so i decided to take it apart, and give it a good going over - hence the name, "overhaul".

I share your concern about the Pacific theater being sidelined...I got the addon pack, just to mess around with it and try to reward the devs a little, free-market style. But don't you just love how the new splash screen is a profile of...a U-Boat!!! "(Grey) Wolves of the Pacific", har har har.

And it's jarring to go back to stock, I feel lost without all the mod work, particularly TM. Glad to see you're back / still here, I'd venture we can live with you putting the game on the slow Maru to China due to all the stuff / life going on.

Ducimus I sincerely hope everything works out for you...You need to take care of yourself and your family..They come first....

Take care of you and yours, first. I wonder what kind of bandwidth the Big Guy gets upstairs, so it's best to be safe and stay down here as long as you can :D.

Seriously, though... is there any way a group of folks with modding skills (or preferably, no modding skills, 'cause I'd love to help out :()1:) would be able to help you out? Assign someone the task of getting this chunk compatible, that chunk compatible, etc. I imagine someone would still need to administrate this, Linus Torvalds style, but it's better than watching Ducimus get ground down to nothing 'cause he gets 15 minutes of sleep every night.

Ducimus,

I am glad to hear that you are going to continue work on TM.
You need to take care of R/L first though. Family is way more important
than a game.
That being said, if there is anything I can help you with, just ask.:up:

Sorry to hear that, hope all will be well with her.

Our thoughts go out to you and your wife, that's a tough row to hoe.

As for the U-boat add on pushing the Pacific theater of SH4 aside, I don't see that happening, as long as there are people who like the Pacific US boats and play, mod, and discuss them. Sure, there may be U-boat enthusiasts who work together on mods and x-packs for the U-boat missions add-on, but that will not slow or hinder your work or anyone who is interested in the US subs in SH4 at all.

Even if U-boat fever spreads to SH4 in a big way, players who prefer US subs are not affected at all. People making mods for the U-boat side do not disable affection for the Fleet Boat scene. :)

Here's to TMO for 1.5 :()1:

Hiya's,
To tell you the truth with the death of dave and as i thought maybe the death of row as well and then with you duci deciding as i thought to leave tm as-was i have not been subbing as such :( , Kinda turned to the darkside and got crysis and cod4 installed :( lol

Now with Kriller2 and others stepping into the row fold with PE etc it's rekindled my lust for SH4 :rock:

Now on top of that you have come back to the fold so to speak and you're doing a 1.5 version of TM

I echo the sentiments expressing a gratitude your back :) :rock:

Dang i tried to get single mods to make a plain sh4 resemble tm (hud/uniforms/key configs etc etc) and i had that bad a series of headaches i gave up, Heck i had U-boat-Missions sat near pc for 2 days before i even opened the box lol

Hoping all goes well for you and your family :up:

Take Care

Ciao

My heartfelt thanks to all the devs & modders of the Silent Hunter series, who through their industry and skill allow us to reenact the epic of our century played out upon the sea.

Although retired from a life on the oceans, their imagination has always sparked my interest and kept my hull from dry rot, for which I am exceedingly grateful. Well done, Ducimus.

Hey Duci, I knew you could not resist the call of the water lapping against a Gato's hull. I'm glad you decided to pick it up again. Although you do your own thing, you always help others with their modding. That is a great thing for the community. I hope you wife is on the mend. Be good and see you in the PTO.

BTW, you stated that the PTO might be pushed off to the side for the uboats. I do not see that happening from were I'm sitting. I messed with the uboat add-on for about 5 mintes then discovered the new goodies for the Fleet boys. The uboat is parked behind the barn and will remain so. One gets tired of playing a sim that you are always going to lose no matter how many vessels you sink:rotfl:

Great to see you back here Ducimus, I'm nort moving up to v1.5 unless I see enough good mods from this community to keep the Pacific Theater Submarines going. Can't wait to see what you and the other Modders can come up with in the weeks ahead.

Just don't let things or the opinions of others get you down, remember that family always comes first, but you can always relax doing what you like to do, in moderation of course :)

Best wishes to you, your family, and friends that all things work out for the best.

Just when I thought I had no choice but to switch back to RFB to keep 1.5 updates... Thank You Ducimus.

I hope this note finds both you and your wife well. I have a sister who went through a similar ordeal. Remember you are the master not the mod. Life is too short. :yep:
