View Full Version : Help! GWX 2.0 saved games recording me as 'dead'

Fresh re-install of SH3 --> patch 1.4b --> GWX 2.0. Using SH3Commander 2.7 and everything was going well.

I started a new career, enjoyed a good patrol, saved at sea (on the surface, just before re-entering the Kiel canal) and went to bed. The next day I fired up SH3, loaded the savepoint and continued to port. But from here on, whenever I save (on the surface, having passed back through the Kiel canal) on patrol 2, exit and reload SH3 THE SAVED GAME IS RECORDED AS 'DEAD'.

I've twice reloaded from the previous (good) savepoint, returned to port, headed out on a new patrol and then saved at sea. Only to exit and return to discover that my last recorded action was to die.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Those who have will certainly not tell us the story. Nor solution. :arrgh!:

I have had that problem also from time to time.
I can't remember what exactly was happening though.
The sub would start out from the save sinking quickly with no hope of surfacing. I don't remember where the sub was when I checked the map either.
Seems like it was worse when using the seasonal or big waves option in SH3Commander, when the seas were above 10m.
I'm not for sure but I think this is related to the save while submerged bug in SH3. Like when seas are rough and the chief officer calls out depth of 10m when you are surfaced.

Thankfully I haven't had this problem for awhile, but I only save in calm seas with no traffic or land.
Do you remember what sea state was active?

Hopefully someone else could help you out as a search didn't turn up that specific situation. :hmm:

I'm not sure if the following will fix your issue, but maybe it's worth trying...it's a fix for an old SH3 problem ("career has disappeared"):

Create a new profile. Exit the game.

In WinXp you go to

My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers

Open your old profile and copy all of the files in there to the new one.

Navigate back out to the cfg directory and delete the save.tmp file.

Start the game and load the new profile.

Abd_von_Mumit... good point, well made. :)

Clyde00... yes, I've always been saving on the surface in calm waters, away from land. Perhaps it would be safer to choose my next savepoint at base, and then try saving again at sea?

Paajtor... that sounds very interesting, and it makes sense. The problem could well be with a corrupted .tmp file.

*Many* thanks Kaluens; really appreciate your support. I'll let you know what works and (hopefully) add to our SH3 general knowledge.
