View Full Version : minor things I'd like to see . . .

These are minor, but still annoying:

1) Bow waves and prop wash from stationary and/or sinking ships. It's a bit weird seeing a ship dead as a stone still pushing a bow wave and kicking up a prop wash, especially when the stern is in the air and props out of the water!!

2) Hearing propeller sounds from dead stopped ships. Again just a little weird. Especially when you've blown the props off a ship yet still hear the thrumming caviaton of screws!

3) Visible streaks of fired rounds. I mean, c'mon! Deck guns (U-boat or warships) didn't fire tracer rounds for gosh sakes! And even .30 and .50 calibers didn't fire 100% tracers either.

I am, though, overjoyed that GWX 2 got rid of flags once a ship slipped under. T'was quite ridiculous seeing the flags still merrily waving underwater, especially when they did it bass-akwards to the direction the ship was sinking.

Although I find that I always agree with your opinions and suggestions - I guess we play with a similar aim in terms of our desired experience, or we're long-lost twins ;) - I think only the 3rd one has a hope of being fixed. I believe it is just a collection of circle-textures strung together, after all, so just need replacing with transparent ones. I expect the others are rather difficult to change/fix.

On a similar note with the sound issues, I'm currently following a convoy in a very bad storm in GWX 2 and one of the ships constantly makes the creaking/squealing sounds of a sinking ship. I even got inside the convoy once, watched HMS Nelson sail on by at <200m (first battleship sighting ever, argh!! :damn:), and had this 'screaming' ship sail overhead too. It's happily afloat, not even listing. More of a random occurence than the things you list, so probably irrelevant to the discussion. Sorry :D

As I'm virtually positive me mum was never in the UK, alas I fear being twins isn't likely. However, 'brothers-in-arms', or a similar concept, is just as satisfactory. :) :yep: It's nice to know that someone here is of a similar mind to me . . . twisted as my mind might be. :arrgh!:

I can't tell you how much your reply meant to me Turm. Thank you!!

I've run across the 'sinking-shop-sound' too. Usually during very rough seas (but not always), and the ship in question looks almost foundering (and, again, but not always). Either the bow or stern is just below the surface, but it keeps merrily steaming along. I'm not sure what event(s) trigger that sound file, so I've no idea if it can be 'fixed'. It's only an annoyance when I've flushed my tubes then dived, and am trying to sound-track potential cripples after (hopefully!) torpedo detonations. It's a bit, ummm, irksome, to locate a cripple via hydrophone, only to surface 30 minutes later and discover it's on the horizon still steaming off.

(And that had to hurt, seeing your first BB like that and unable to fire! You have my sympathy and empathy, and may you soon run across another . . . this time in a perfect firing position setup!!)

I don't have a brother, so this is a good start at least. :()1:I'm glad you liked the post. I too have a twisted mind, but for now I'm on best behaviour because I'm not the most experienced member :D

At least the crippled ship sound didn't happen only to me, so I'll try to watch out for it in future. At least one ship did sink in the convoy - I heard the same sounds behind the main group, and later when on the surface I heard several loud explosions in the distance, from the same direction. Satisfying to know the weather was doing the work that I could not :arrgh!:

Btw, I did fire a spread at the BB (how could I not at least try?). I've hit ships in heavy fog before, at the edge of visual range. Difficult but not impossible with some swift manoeuvring. However the Nelson was just too close. One torp exploded about 30m beyond the ship, the other 3 carried on till they ran out of steam. Oh well. Some excitement after 11 days with no contacts at all, if nothing else! My first ever proper experience with a DD and depth charges too, following that attempt  (Yes, I've had SH3 since release day and only now met my first angry DD in a campaign - I'm a bit slow at this game... ;) )

I'm still tracking the convoy and can still hear the BB, but almost into the North Channel now so will have to abandon it. 9 days of the same awful weather is driving me crazy :damn:
