Hy captains,
im having a strange thing with new ATI radeon drivers
I just downloaded from ATI the latest display+catalyst contr. panel drivers (8.1) for my radeon 9600
After installation i tried to launch SH4 and SH3 and i have a error message like "3D engine can not be initialized"
It sounds very strange to me, is anyone experiencing the same error?
I play with SH4+patch 1.4+TM 1.7.5+RSRD+ROW or SH3+GWX
My system: athlon XP3200+Radeon 9600+2 GB ram+Audigy 2 platinum
Thank you,
Andrea

Did you uninstall the previous version first? Then reboot? Suggest you uninstall what you just installed, get the system back to default and then download the full package again.
Decompress and reinstall.
Also, have you had issues before?

of course i uninstalled the previuos version of DDrivers and CCC, then reboot, then installed DD then reboot then CCC.........
Anyway never experienced before issues related to previuos radeon drivers (regularly updated) with SH3 or SH4 even if both patched and modded..........this is why it sounds so strange to me........

Hi,
If you got the "unable to initialise the 3d engine" i'd suggest you go back to a previous version...
i'm currently running 8.1 on my sapphire ati 2600 hd pro but i downloaded mine from the sapphire site, the 8.1 ccc (which incorporates both ccc and driver) does exactly the same thing but they also put on a driver hotfix (believe its something to do with agp) and when i reinstalled the 8.1 driver SH4 works no probs.. (apart from my weird periscope and water degredation which has been plaging me since i tried the omega drivers)
all in all i'd advise doing a backup before you start messing with the drivers if it worked fine before.

You have an AGP card? The last few ATI drivers have broken AGP support. Not sure how far you need to go back to get offical ATI drivers to work. You could use Omega drivers, they are based on the newest ATI drivers and have fixed AGP support.

yeah he's right, these last few driver set from ATI have been very problematic for AGP cards.
i still use the old 5.11 drivers just because it makes no difference if its a new game or a old game they seem to run everything you throw at them with no problem.. with the newer drivers you may get a tad bit more IQ but there's always something with the new drivers it breaks on a AGP card.

U must use the Catalyst 8.1 Hotfix (http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=31625) (for AGP) ;)

I am using this driver for my radeon X1950 pro AGP and my old 9800pro AGP, they are rendering better quality and have a performance gain over other drivers:http://www.omegadrivers.net/
the newest is made from the ATI catalyst 7.12

I have ATI R9800 Pro 256 MB and i did not have problems with drivers including 7.12 ...
I use Driver Cleaner Pro ...
