View Full Version : Poll for OLC GUI users only...

...about v1.1.5. I made a typo on option 5 and wrote 1.1.6 (which is WIP and on-the-brain).

By the way, a TFT is any "flat panel" monitor, and a CRT is an old style "fat" monitor.

Sorry for cluttering the forum with this  but I can't post polls in the GUI thread.

I voted for dark, as light is so light that I never even tried to use it. :) But, as I stated in the original thread, the lefto-bottom corner text is almost unvisible for me. And I think the very best solution would be to combine the two versions so that they change on sunrise/sunset. :)

This mod is marvellous, by the way. Thanks for that!

Yeah I did see your comment, and believe me I wish that were possible, but it isn't. :(

Even getting the old night fliters (scope screens and navmap) into the GUI is problematic. The navmap filter messes up the draggable depth-finding thing, and I couldn't find a way to persuade part of the scope filter to appear/vanish as the range/aob finder moves up and down.

As for the text in the corner... yeah maybe it could do with some tweaking :hmm: it is a bit hard to read sometimes in the dark version.

Gonna try the dark version asap :)

I'm very happy with the dark version and a CRT monitor (which are generally darker than TFT monitors anyway, I believe). The main reason I don't want a TFT is because they rarely come in 4:3 ratios which means SH3 will become distorted and I'll have oval-shaped periscope optics! :o

The only night filter I feel is necessary is the one for the navmap, but if the draggable tools are no longer draggable (presumably because the filter has to be the uppermost layer on the screen), I'd rather make do without it. Although the red masks add a little to immersion, the darker GUI is plenty good enough to compensate when making night attacks in all other screens. Well, in my opinion, naturally :D (Though I haven't had the opportunity to make a night attack with 1.1.5 yet, but I've looked through it often enough during the night and it's fine).

Voted for 5 because I didn't try the dark version and I'm waiting for new version.

Just tried the dark version... And I find it good. But I could live with the light one also no problems.

Hello OLC, dark is perfect for my taste as well. However I'd like to revert the scope crosshairs from green to black even at night, I guess this is something in the menu.ini but can't figure out what precisely. I'm not asking for changing it in the mod but if you could tell me how to do this that'd be perfect (yeah people are NEVER satisfied :hmm:).
Cheers

@ OLC I like the dark aspect! Then again I didnt mind the light!

Hi OLC,

like I said in your main thread: I like the dark version (CRT mon) better than the light version. In the dark version, only the map screen now seems too bright, but in the light version I could do nighttime targetting very difficult because of the higher contrast, even more so during daytime.

I've only seen that 1.1.6 preview in the main OLC Gui thread yet but it definitely looks like a step in right direction. It could be a slight bit overdone in the darkness though. As I find it difficulty to read the linear compass scale bottom-left, and the message area. However that may also because of jpeg distortion, or the font used for the message. So since I can't try it in action (still have GWX 1.03) and do not have my eyes 'rigged for red' at the moment my vote doesn't mean much. I'm using CRT BTW. Anyway 2

Just try it, screenies can also distort, instead of the real live deal on your own rig. DL it from OLC's filefront. 1.1.5 is the dark one, 1.1.4 is the older light one (with faulty, pre-GWX2 mastlengths). Both are JSGME compatible, so it's as easy as getting out of the harbor.

Argh, well yes. But game is running with OLC 1.1.5 and I'd hate to quit now (loading times are really killing me). I like Dark but I dont know whether I would like light better, so I can't vote yet :-)

I'm torn between the two versions. I like the light version for when its lighter outside, but at night, it made attacking ships near impossible, as I could not distinguish the ship from the night sky. But then, I had grown used to the red-light at night.

This is running windowed on a 1440x900 resolution TFT monitor.

EDIT: Hence, I am voting for the "I havent tried..." option, as there wasn't any other middle ground.

Looks like it's version 1.1.4.

Ah, then this is probably the light design:

Then I can vote. I definitely prefer the dark one :)

Not exactly. This is either work-in-progress screendump, or something somebody else based on OLC's mod. (the notepad thingy gives that away) I meant the six or so screendumps stuck together in the very first post by OLC. But the lightlevel/contrast seems to match the ones I had in mind.

Well the dark version is winning, though the margin isn't as great as I'd hoped. Interestingly, CRT vs TFT seems to make no difference.

I'll go ahead with the dark version. :yep:

Are the changes so subtle? :)Yes, it looks like it, but it has the notepad in it indicating it is not the official OLC mod, so who knows what else is different. The following is a link to the image on the first post in the other thread (the main OLC mod thread) that I was talking about. It is the official (light) OLC Gui version 1.1.4:

Yeah, he rather annoyingly keeps posting modified pictures from my WIP thread and saying "I want that".

And it is impossible to get the old notepad back? :hmm:
It's perfectly possible. Good luck in your endeavour.

I never quite understood the concept of the notepad anyway. All it does is to relay the input to the TDC. So I might as well put the data into the TDC in the first place...

Well, I guess the developers were smart enough to see that you don't allways want the TDC to be the endstation of your data. Storing bearing/range data on the notepad is a good place to safe it if you need to plot it on the map in a hurry. Unfortunately they forgot bearing.

Hmm, maybe they got embarrased about that 'last message line' disappearing. And sought a way to distract from their mistake. ;)

Closing this thread as per OLC's request, as he has enough info and doesn't want it to be hanging around for ever. Many thanks to all who gave feedback
