With kind permission from Onkel Neal, this is a non SH3/GWX post.

The release of my book, Kingmaker, is scheduled for 21 February 2008.
This is an exciting espionage thriller that will keep you awake when you're not sinking ships.

Here are the front and back covers as a preview. You will be able to purchase it through Subsim or your local bookstore.

I will let you know when it becomes available. :D
Note:There is a typo on the back cover, caught by an attentive reader and I was able to let the publisher know in time before printing started.

How can there be a fascinating drama without Bernhard?

Even in Romeo & Juliet he had his role as the "barkeeper" for the main characters...

Once the book becomes available (approx 21 Feb) you will be able to get it from Amazon via the Subsim.com/store. It also should be available through B&N UK. Borders plus others.

As far as clothing, the only thing I will say, is some people do take their clothes off in the story :D.

It did. TEMPLE DRUMS is finished and waiting. Publisher wanted to launch my career with a present time novel. If I get enough of a following, I think we will see TEMPLE DRUMS in print in about a year.

As far as UK. A colleague of mine discovered her book offered by B&N in Birmingham several months after release in USA. So info on this is sketchy.

It takes a while for listing of a book to work its way down the distribution pipeline. What does help is public demand for the book (by ordering). It also helps to have the ISBN number handy when ordering.

ISBN 10: 0-9800733-4-0
ISBN 13: 978-0-9800733-4-8

I appreciate every single order as this kicks the book's rating from over two millionth on Amazon up closer to the top of the heap and draws attention of the book sellers who then begin stocking.

Reviews will begin drifting in a week or so, I hope. One reviewer called me saying she was very excited by the book. Then she was taken ill and is in hospital now .
Publisher told me that pre-release orders in USA are encouraging.

Alright, thanks for the heads up. I was wondering why a book due out in a week or two wasnt up, but I was able to pre-order a book due in April :hmm:

Hehe, my first two (and third) are fantasy stories, with lots of weight on humour. (The heroes are idiots)

I also have a feel-good Christmas-thingy in the works, and a thriller set in Oslo when the Germans invaded Norway.

An OT question though. How long did it take you to write it? Just curious. Did you write a bit every day, once a week, did you have any BIG writing sessions? And if I may be so bold, what do you do for a living?

Well, I hope it sells well and that people will enjoy it!

Well, I hope it sells well and that people will enjoy it!

Some years ago, I made a fair amount of money selling yachts and decided it was the moment to go into writing full time. Even though I did get an additional grant, this proved to be economically a disastrous decission. I had calculated that in 5 years I would have something published. Wrong! You can't come in with your first book and compete against the BIG boys in the thriller business (Ask Clancy). Finally, I gave up and went with a small press with ambitions.

While working on Kingmaker, I wrote for a minimum of 5 hours a day. It took me 4 months to write the first draft. Then, a virus attacked my computer and I didn't have Kingmaker backed up. So, it took me another 3 months to rewrite it. 9 Drafts later, I thought the book was ready to submit.

I did get a literary agent who wasted my time for 18 months wanting to sell a smaller book of mine to get me in the market. Finally, I fired him.

Light Sword picked me up about a year ago, and Kingmaker went through two full edits. So the book was revised 11 times. Total time from the moment I asked myself what would happen to a CIA agent who refused to modify a report to suit a political agenda to today is a little over five years.

I don't recmmend the writer's life to anyone. But, if you must write, never give up.

Thank you for your advice. We're not all built to work Balzac style (got the poor guy a hearth attack :dead:).

I know what you mean about drafts. Even if I have to write short stories for English lessons (about 1-2 pages), I go over it a couple of times and if I made changes everytime I though they were needed,... Let's just say the thing would most probably get to around 3-4 if not more pages long. It's the time constraint that bothers me. Even though I have time Friday afternoons, I can't myself to write, as I know that it would take me about 1000 years just to make the first draft. The problem is, I have plenty of ideas in short drafts (talking about trilogies). Yeh I know, saying is one thing, writing it is another. But to be honest, my biggest problem is that I get my best ideas/chapters/characters/events/everything when I'm not thinking about school. I usually work out a nice chapter if I want to when I walk to school or before I go to bed. Too bad people would think I've gone crazy if I talked out loud on the streets :-? (So I mumble )

Well, if I get the time, I'll be sure to pick a copy of your book next time I order something from Amazon.

I'm sure you've got another book hidden up your sleave ;)

Best of luck!

When Amazon began ranking Kingmaker earlier this week, the book stood at an impressive 400K. Normally, books start between 2-4 millionth.

Then it began to sink like a U-boat with severe leaks and destroyers circling overhead. Yesterday the ranking was down to 633K --sort of depressing for the official release day.

Something happened overnight. Today at 10:00 EST (15:00 GMT) Kingmaker's ranking was 230,906!

I suspect our Kaleuns are playing a considerable role in this. Thank you all :D

This weekend, I hope to get my game fixed and continue with Balz's patrol and annoy everyone with his reports.

Brag,
The books went out yesterday to you and all of those who ordered and for review, two weeks before the official release date of 2/21/08 - As far as Amazon goes - that is a standard message they place on the website for books still waiting delivery to their warehouse. There is nothing I can do, since this is their policy. Once they receive them they will change the status since they cannot control the mail nor can I. Sorry

FYI - Ingram has just ordered 50 just now and they will go out tomorrow so all is well.

A week ago, Balz just wouldn't load and the game would CTD.
Finally, I gave up and started a new career (Klapp). Now Balz loads okay.

Lt. Kalb writes:

We just finished recharging batteries after attacking a heavily protected convoy and Balz was conducting choir practice before sending the crew to bed.
Funker interrupted, "Convoy heading east, 7 knots."
"What's with all these convoys. This is Tanker Alley not Convoy Promenade."
"The convoys have tankers," Bernard said. "So the Admiralty authorizes them to use Tanker Alley."
"Du bist eine dumme Affe," Balz growled. "We're not a tanker, and do you think I ask permission to use Tanker Alley? You must admire me because I sink Tankers without permission."

In the early afternoon, we sat at periscope depth and let the lead corvette sail past us and maneuvered to a course perpendicular to the convoy. Balz fired an aft tube at a large freighter and two forwad tubes at a tanker.

We did half a wiggle-waggle and dove to a hundred meters.

Balz said, "We only did half a wiggle-waggle because I am testing a secret weapon." He removed his tea cozy and showed us the lead foil lining his favorite head gear. "This is a thought director. You see part of the lining is open. This way,my thoughts are projected forward in the direction I turn my head. "See the genious of my mind?"
"No," Bernard answered.
"You wouldn't."
"Hoochie-woochie," Balz sang softly and twirled. "The skipper on that escort coming at us is trying to read my mind. So I twirl and mix him up."
"Wasserbomben."
"Bernaard, you sound pathetic. It's wasserbomben, boom-boom, with emphasis on the boom-boom."
The U boat shook from nearby explosions, and Balz did his mental hoochie woochie twirl.

We got credit of 21,000 tons on that attack. and are now chasing the convoy for another hoochie-woochie boom-boom.

Kaleun Foghladh mhara's suggestion that I assume a staff position is very kind. But I'm not a natural office denizen like Brag, the great BDU ashtray cleaner. I, Johan Sebastian Balz, I am true Teutonic hero material. I am naturally brilliant (ask my mother), my competence as a U-boot commander is unequaled, not even paralleled. I am just the greatest Kaleun that has ever lived. For me to move over to a desk job would be to rob the Reich from the greatest challenge offered to the British Empire. I also have a refined artistic talent. Leading my submersible choir singing hoochie-woochie songs also fills the cultural void which is the mid Atlantic.:smug:
