What kind of ship is it?

Look a bit like a Victory if I'm not totally mistaken... but I'm sure its not.

Yes, it's a Liberty.

Thanks for the photos; I really like the view of the rigging. Old-fashioned ships are fascinating to look at.

The stock liberty looks very different, it seems to be longer and with a lower hull, but I hope that an eventual IABL fix wouldnt delay the release of its Merchant fleet mod.....i risk to became a white-bearded wolf!:D

i'm a bit impatient, i know:up:

Yes, and I am almost certain that the length-width ratio is incorrect, too. This threw off the measurements for almost all of my modded ships, since I started out assuming that the sizes were correct. Still, it is a major improvement over the SH2 Liberty Ship, which looked nothing at all like a Liberty.

After i saw this nice pictures from liberty´s, i have try out to rework the liberty in SH3.

In my eyes the SH3 Liberty is not lookin as an liberty ship.
It looks like an pimped C2.
The Bridghouse is to much to the backside of the ship.

So i have taken the Victory and with some smal changes with the mast´s and the funnel and some changes with the draught, this ship looks more like an liberty !

What do you think ?

I need response so tell me pls. what you think !
I Know that the Hullstructure in the bow should be reworked a little bit and the lifeboats have to be added.

What do you think ?

Comparing 1:1 with the photos they look as if they are too deep in the water,... all the other stuff look good.
Can you raise it a little bit?

AOTD_MadMax

@ U49

I should raise it ?
You mean the vessel should come mor out of the water ?
Hmm i think the photos are made from empty vessels.

I have the Boats added in a few minute.
New picture will come !

Do we have pictures from loaded vessels?
I just tried a quick images/google search but all pictures on the first pages seem to be with a hull rising high out of the water ? I can't say if they were photographed while they were empty? :hmm:

I think they was unloaded cause they are museumships.

Here pictures with added lifeboats.

Now i got some small problems with the texturs after the added boats but this should not be an big problem.

I use your picture in post #5 as my reference:

I can see the top of the rudder sticking slightly above the surface.
So we have a comparable load point...

No I estimate the size of various parts relative to each other..
From the upper edge of the hull/upperdeck to the top of the funnel is appx. the same visual length as from waterline to the top of the bow...
Comparing with pictures in post #12 it seems the load situation (judging by rudder) is comparable. I feel the height of the hull is lower then necessary..?

I would estimate some more 10-20% for the height of the hull could make the difference?

Maybe tomorrow I will try to overlay both pictures...

HI just a bug bear of mine, As you can see from the screenies below these ship mods are really great and thanks to the folks who put the time and effort into making them.

One thing, I notice, the deck seems to include what look like containers, which are a modern, postware system, those container look very much the modern containers you get on container merchents these days but which did not exist in the WW2 era

I think they was unloaded cause they are museumships.

Here pictures with added lifeboats.

Nice. How about lowering the bulwarks at the bow? From a side view the hull should be flush (without any raised portion). A wider superstructure without those metal supports at the ends would also be a good idea. The Liberty Ships were notorious for having a very "boxy-looking" deckhouse.

I agree that the containers look inaprropriate. They were probably included because they were needed to hide the guns of the Q-Ships that were originally planned for SH3 (and never completed).

Several good Liberty Ship shots from Uboat.net. You can see how the ship's hull is one long, unbroken line at the same level, unlike a "three island" freighter.

Hi,

just fyi, i reworked the NLL_ Libertyship for LSH3. The length is cut to 137 m, draft increased to 7.5 m.

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/r/rowi58/124671/whdfyghqok.jpg

And some little work on the layout of the cranes and external cargo.

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/r/rowi58/124671/dhsgiwbttb.jpg

And the freeboard is some 10 m now. I think it comes a little bit closer to the "original" Libertyship (although the model is still based on UBI's stock NLL_ ).

@ Rowi

you are right, your liberty is much more authentical as the original SH3 one.
It looks much better then mine, created out of the victory.

Great work Rowi !
