Sorry I didn't take a screenshot of it but I had sent 6 torps at medium range at medium speed set at contact on a Kongo Battleship. The torps sent the ship listing to port and still running. Then it capsized and WHAMMO! A huge (the biggest) I've ever seen since playing SH4. The size of the firey explosions was maybe twice the length of the ship. A semi-circular ring of fire settled on the water with a whole bunch of lifeboats getting stir-fried.:yep::arrgh!::rock: Loved every second watching it! This is a result of all those wunderbar environmental Mods. God bless you, LeoVampire!

TM has some really nice explosions, too. If you listen closely, you can hear Japanese crewmen screaming during the initial explosions. :arrgh!:

Probably the only thing I dislike about TM. The screams are loud enough to match the explosion most of the time!

The screams were brought to you by Dave/Leovampire. I remember testing the file he created. I heard the screams for the first time and was not ready for them...i did a :o

I gotta say, the first time I heard the screams, I remembered Pearl Harbor and then giggled.

I always thought it was tearing metal sounds I was hearing when the torps hit. I forgot to mention the amount of fallout from the blast. Watching through the periscope I followed the arc of a lifeboat. That semi-circular ring of explosions was something to behold.:rock:
I find this thread disturbing.
Guys, I realize this is a game, but stir frying lifeboats? "I remembered Pearl harbor, and giggled?" These are the kinds of things it would be justified to say if you yourself, experienced the horrors of war brought on by the enemy. But you are playing a simulation of those times.
For me, Life boats are not targets, in real life or games.
Blowing ships up, is one thing. I target parts of the ship that will do as little harm to "crew members" (bow and stearn areas), if the ship doesn't silently slip under the water, and instead explodes, I look for burning lifeboats. If there are some, I either shell them, or machine gun them, I would do this in real life, so that the poor buggers "stir frying" have a quick and merciful death.
The explosion sounds spectacular, A tanker I hit did much the same when a torpedo went too far to the middle of the ship. No lifeboats, plenty of debris.

No Offense.
Oh, I realize it is just a game. But there have been psyc evals, that have concluded that people that enact horrible acts, even in a gaming environment, are actually prone to doing similar acts in actual life. How true this is I am not sure.
Speaking personally I have problems playing GTA (grand theft auto) due to the truly violent nature of that game. I have an absolute ball driving the vehicles like a mad man, or rolling through the cities in the M1 abrams you can get with a cheat code. But the actual game I detest. Hell they have the fire extinguisher be a leathal vapor!! It's irritating as hell I know, but deadly (probably in large doses). It was disturbing watching the thrill my roomate's kids got out of playing GTA and shooting people and stuff. I essentially said to my roomates that that is not cool.
I just have an issue with taking pleasure in watching simulated incocents suffering horrific deaths, let alone actual.
It's bad enought you blew their simulated boat out of the water, with your simulated torpedo:)

I can't resist saying this: I think you have made a misspelling in your name. :) As for your first point, if your statement about the Psych eval conclusions is correct, we are in for a H&ll of a future when adulthood comes to more and more of the 99% of kids who thrive on First Person Shooters, and have done so for the past half-generation. There are examples of real life mass-killers (Columbine HS, Colorado, for example) who were obsessed with violent FPS Games...but I don't think one can extrapolate from that to a general conclusion about all or most people becoming prone to a predictable mindset or emotional/moral condition.
We've gotten a bit off the original thread topic..My next post will return to to it...

Sorry I didn't take a screenshot of it but...
I've often seen similar comments about lost/forgotten screencaptures of momentous events.....moments seemingly lost forever.
Maybe some folks don't realize that after such an event, you can at any time as the mission continues, "Save" the Game and when doing so, select "Save Replay". Then at your leisure, load that Replay, run the entire mission "recording" at FastForward (or just jump forward instantly) from beginning to the point of your attack/event, and watch it again taking all the screencaptures you want. Your camera choices are restricted while watching the running replay, but if you jump back into the Game "active" just immediately prior to your "event", say seconds before the torps hit, you should be able to select any external camera view you want to make your historical record screenshots of that 'live' event.
Maybe everyone already realizes that, but I don't think it will hurt to post a reminder...

I dont think he meant he shot at the lifeboats, he mentioned a ring of fire (I went down down down and the flames went higher) on the water. Now, lifeboat AI isnt the most fantastic thing out there, so its highly likely they just paddled themselves into it. :yep:

Thank you El Kapitan! I didn't shoot at the lifeboats at all. The flames engulfed them and I had to reverse my boat just to get away from the fire.
Off Topic-
As for game violence, heck I'm no kid and I've been listening the Death Metal, watched gross horror movies and have actually been in minor skirmishes with extremists over here. You don't see me taking a Kalishnikov and mowing down the mailman. So, it's subjective based on mental stability. There are some games I don't play based on tastes. 'Postal' is mindless violence- no cohesive storyline at all and 'Soldier of Fortune' is another one. I like 'Clive Barker's- Undying' and 'Silent Hill'- scary games and still give me the shivers. I kind of do a double-take when gamers get a bit 'too connected' with games. I really like SH4 but let's keep things in perspective- It's just a simulation, and a great one too!
