This would have to be one of the best return reply posts I've seen thus far since my time here at SS.

There are a few key elements in your post limkol that I would like to highlight even further;

for example;

My Elite Flecktarn Camouflage U-Boat Uniform took me approximately 7 solid days to create and when I mean solid......I mean solid; starting at about 0930hr in the morning and dragging my sorry arse to bed at about 2300hr for seven days straight.

I have seen a thread that talked about how long it was taking to load the game up [in some case 20 minutes] my PC takes it to about 15-18 minutes;

Take the Flecktarn Camouflage helmet; I had to load the game 8 times each time adjusting tone, angles, bigger patterns & smaller patterns just to get the perfect end product........that's just the helmet.........now you have the outer shirt, jacket, cap, under shirt, rain coat, rain hat, officer cap, etc etc

All those items had to be adjusted time and time again...........loading and reloading the game & missions.

I have members who continually comment on all my mods good or bad but they comment. I think I'm one of the lucky modders because I haven't experienced too many that try to derail my mod.

I haven't got a glass chin and I don't flinch when it comes to constructive criticism if a member sees a problem/fault with my mod and gives me ways to fix it, or better ideas, then I'm more then happy to listen to their advice and make the mod better. I did this with the Elite Uniform eagle as an example and I thank the members involved that helped me make the uniform just that little bit better.

I'm very lucky that my wife and two daughters understand that this is their husband and daddy's hobby [think my wife is just grateful that my hobby isn't down the local pub getting pissed with my mates all the time] so I'm able to spend very long periods of time on modding projects for you.

Regardless if your a modder who produces large campaign mods [GWX Team] or a small independent modder [me] comments should be given to each and ever modder regardless on how good or bad the mod.

I'll just end this by saying in the last couple of months this forum has lost to great members, and its not until will loose them that we truly understand just how much they made the game and this forum what it is today......appreciate each others company because who knows what tomorrow will bring.

You still have DeepX, yes? Just extract the model and view your changes in there.:rotfl:

Seriously, I'd go mad if I had to load the game after each change to a graphic file.

As long as you can find/extract the *.obj file, any model in SH3 can be done this way.

Close to 300,000 views, 2500 + replies, I think that answers your question. You folks put out a great piece of work, unfortunately it's human nature for many people to find the negative in things rather than talk about the positive. Let's see some of your critics step up to the plate and duplicate what has been done with GWX.
Don't think many of them would volunteer.

I agree with what Reece has mentioned as well, many folks out there appreciate what you folks have done with SH3, but they have not spoken up about this. Truth is, they are probably to busy enjoying the game ;)

I have to say something,

Thought the Post Is written in a way that is funny
I did understand what he meant with it in the first
place, and fully support what he says under the

I never quited a Mod that i could accomplish and
do, Thought sometimes the same doesn't want to
come out the way I want, this most of the times
leads us Modders to the Road described by Venatore,
Loading testing, exit improving, reloading testing,
Now you all can Multiply this for hours, days , weeks,
months etc....

What it makes me understanding what he says in his
post, is that after all this hard work that sometimes
consumes even your own private life, you go to

In my very humble opinion:

Every society, even a local football club with 20 members, is an accurate copy of the real world-wide society: every aspect characterizing a society is represented inside small groups too.

Every person has a personality that can't dissimulate or change in any circumstance. On the contrary, especially under the cover of alias/pseudonym, bad sides of personality (and bad behavior) come up like from broken security valve.

As far as concern the game —This Society—, people stay still in –after 3 years– for serious reasons, not for playing. This game is very complex, not in playability, but in requiring psychology.

The Player is not the captain, is The U-Boot.

The simulation is the projection of our lives to U-Boot.

Thanks to high percentage of lost lives (more than 80 %) the no-German player feels free of charges. (Charges from the Weight of History, of death or heroes grandfathers against Nazi, of political conflicts –we democrats, these Nazi–, of interest).

He/She is under pressure with early bypassed technology and against numerous enemies. He/She is slow and the enemies fast. He/She feels alone and the enemies are legion, much more attacking than defending, by air, sea and land.

All this is real life situations.

An overall, person who stays a long inside this game is like that: He/She feels old fashion living a modern world without alive principles and very competitive, with bash under the belt and, mostly, without understanding in his/her close (professional only ?) environment.

Please look around: here are married people, with or without children, with careers and duties.

We stay for long hours/days in front of the computer, inside our personalized U-Boot and our personalized crew: it's a rescue, a refuge from harsh vulgar real environment. Principles suffer in present days and be Modder is a way to communicate, to offer, to share, to belonging to a (more healthy) community.

Both parts earn. The Modder gives. He need that, he feels better after sharing. The player takes thankfully. He need help to accommodate his own refuge. And, some times, people feels a bit uncomfortably asking, some times become clumsy, inept, and gauche in society. Additionally, people here represent at least 3 continents! Wide cultural differences… difficulty of expression.

But, in the end, Modders and players we did The Contact. That's' it !

On behalf of all the other non modding humble players of a great sim - ROLL ON VERSION 2.1 BTW - thankyou for all your time and effort in giving us many many hours of superb play.

Just this very day, privateer offered some insights to me that I'm sure he's gained from his own labors and I know he was under no obligation to even give me the time of day.

That is the true lifeblood of this community. Giving to one another fulfills us all and brings a sense of acceptance and belonging that to each and every one of us makes this community into a far greater thing...family.

Yes, it is a virtual family and we don't have those traditional qualities that define a family but we are a family nonetheless that has been brought together by our passion for Silent Hunter. We don't all share the same last name, but we are all of us Kaleuns!

I will say with complete conviction that all of you in the Grey Wolves should go and play for as long as you like. You have been working on your super-mod literally for years now and you deserve a break to enjoy the fruits of your labors. It doesn't matter if you do it now or after you release version 2.1 of GWX. It's time to play Silent Hunter III as a Kaleun and not as a technician looking for bugs or improvements. Lay down your burdens for a while and just go have fun! I hope that you will have as much joy, admiration, and awe as I have had playing GWX. :up:

You could also choose to stay uncommitted and never release any mod - that choice has numerous advantages:
- you never make mistakes and you don't release flawed mods,
- there is nothing for others to complain about your work, cause it's perfect,
- you can still become popular if that's your wish by just complaing about others' mods (that can never be as perfect as those you'd have done if you chose to),
- you can enjoy your well deserved perfect-modder position every moment of your life.

Just as I do. :D

But if you choose to engage, you enter a hard side of the world. Konstanty Gebert, a Polish-Jewish intelectualist, said once: "If you wish to be proud of your nation's past, you MUST acknowledge it with all it's bright and dark moments. Guys, please just stop it. No use to argue, you don't even have a topic to argue about - did you notice that? :) Being rude or harsh leads to nowhere, especially on these Forums (thanks to mods!). Guys, I think you're missing the point here.
You should see my face right now, I'm totally wearing a huge childish smile, having completed my first short trip in SH3 using real navigation from vanjast, slightly modified.
Watching the bright stars up in the sky, drawing stuff on the map, then waiting for the sun to come out, to find out it's perfectly accurate with the sunrise/tables provided by van. And after 12 hours at 64TC wondering if I did things well, if the game is accurate enough, and so on, hearing my trusted watch yelling "schiff gesichtet !".
Man, I was less than 4 km from my expected course, after 190km ! Now that's a f-ing great feeling ! I entered the harbour slowly and docked right at sunset, thus I could check my tables, and according to my position, it was again accurate to the second, awesome. And at that same moment you guys call each other names :roll:
I recommend a few real time minutes of virtual star observation and recognition to ease off :up:

I have a close friend who's a big fan of the atlantic naval ww2 german roll and loved to watch me playing... But now that he have a decent computer and can run the game, its fun to see him learn!

But doing that I saw how much do WE know about the game... Its hours and hours teaching and it never ends!!! How to control the boat and submerge and turn around and behave and use the deckgun/flakgun and how to do orders and what is best/worse and how to stay quiet and avoid destroyers and what to do when being attacked and how to get ready to a convoy approach and how you should attack them and DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT TDC! :rotfl:

Gives me a headache... but it is amazing how much did we learned in 3 years... that knowledge we would probably never be able to pass foward to someone, its just too much... its amazing... :up::rock:

Haven't seen that thread you refer to, but I've seen various posters here with English that fluctuates, and I usually presume it's down to the mood of the poster e.g. when tired/angry/whatever, they aren't concentrating so much on their English.

Mind you... I live in England, where English is in danger of becoming a foreign language taught in schools, and I must say that when you say to an immigrant something like "you owe me money" their English seems to be extremely poor compared to when you say to the same immigrant "I owe you money" so maybe you have a point. :hmm:
