Does anyone know of a way to set true course by inserting a course using the keyboard? i.e., instead of point and click on the compass, to use the Set Course command to enter a 3 digit number?
Alternatively, does anyone know of a way to "pick off" from the program the current course that could be used by another program? i.e., if my sub is on course 235, can I "read" the data electronically from the program for doing calculations in another program (i.e., using peek/poke type command)?
Thanks in advance,

i always use the:
"-" is view to heading
"=" Go to periscope/bino/uzo view heading
P.s. could be other way around it's early now ... For small course changes I first press "-" then "=" report is like 247 degrees. Next I rotate the scope or uzo (I modded these with a 1 degree compass scale) to excample 3 degrees starboard and press "=" new course will be 250.

I like this idea........................:hmm:

Yes, Venatore, I like it too, but to accomplish it, we have to find out if SH3 can provide either curent course that can be pulled off and used by another (non-SH3) program, or we have to find out how to make SH3 accept a course input using the "Set Course" command. If you look in SetKeys, you'll see several commands "Set XXXX", one of which is named "Set Course". They have no keys mapped to them. I mapped a key to Set Course, and in game SH3 just tells me my current course when this key is pressed - but I can find no way of getting SH3 to accept a new course input using this command.
If we can "pick off" current magnetic course (ship's head) from SH3 and send it to another program, we can effectively manipulate the information to "point to a new magnetic course we'd like to steer, but to do that, we must know, at the point we give the order for the new course, what the current course is. Some folks have programmed a "pop-out" compass, which shows what current course is at all times, so that dial "knows" the information we seek - I just don't know how to get it "out" of SH3 for use outside the program (some sort of peek might be needed). Any ideas?
Looney - thanks for the info. That is one way to do it. However, I am trying to get to the ability to use voice software to order a new magnetic course directly. I want to be able to say, for instance, "Helm, steer course 220" and have the program change course from whatever course I am on now to 220. I have the capability to do that now by saying, for instance, if I was on course 130 "Helm, come right 90 degrees", and would end up at 220, but that is not how conning orders are given - they are given by ordering the new magnetic heading (true heading if we were using a gyrocompass or inertial navigation system vice a magnetic compass).
