Here are approximately 365 tunes (in eleven links, as fast as I can get them uploaded) from my gramaphone folder.

There is a mix of English and German music of the war period as well as some classical and movie music which I believe match the mood of a sub simulation.

All are in ogg.vorbis format so they should play nicely in-game.

I have not made this a JSGME package because much of the content is probably already out there.

As I stated earlier, this is just some of the music from my gramaphone folder in the GWX2.1 version of the game I am currently playing.

I believe it is just as easy to unpack the files and listen separately (from the folder they unpack into), then decide which ones, if any, you would like to keep/use (cut and paste them individually).

The tracks should be put into the:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\GWX 2\data\Sound\Gramaphone folder.

If you want to listen to them first and experience difficulties, I can recommend a free downloadable media player which is IMO far superior to Windows Media Player. VLC Media Player.

Guys,
When I downloaded the GWX2 files they went into a folder on my desktop. Once activated the supermod seems to work fine. When I go into the Ubisoft folder to add the new music items I found;
programfiles\ubisoft\silenthunterIII\data\sound\gr amophone files
So should I add the new tunes to that file or is there a separate file within the GWX downloaded files where they should go
Harder to write this clearly than to say it.

Do you have 2 installs .. SH3 Stock and GWX ?
TBH .. You can add the tracks to both versions just as long as you've got them as OGG. VORBIS format, they'll play.

guys,
I have successfully downloaded the first installment of music into the gramophone file. I noticed that the stock music files are .OGG but that the new tunes file is .RAR. I thought perhaps the basic program had a utility to open the .RAR files but perhaps not. Do I need to download another program to unpack? .

you just need Winrar

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

just download the top one winrar3.71 trial and install.

dont worry about the buy me bit , after 40days in the trial all that happens is it gives you a nag screen asking if you want to buy , but it still works fine:up:
other option is to get something like 7zip which can do rars as well and is completly free http://www.7-zip.org/

Both of them intergrate into the shell of XP so all you have to do is right click on the rar file and chose an option.

What do you mean by "the new tunes file is .RAR." ?

The music I posted was packed using winrar, and the individual music files contained within are ogg.vorbis format.

I noticed in the 4th pack you also had the Hymn to Red October. I wouldn't have ever thought of putting that in myself as it has been quite some time ago i saw that movie myself but that is a very good choice.

Think i still have the soundtrack to that movie somewhere, so might have to look around a bit for it. That movie had some good music in it.

Have you got the sound control turned off ? :hmm:

Go to your gramaphone folder, right click on a track and select Play. The track should play with whatever your resident media player is.
Alternatively double click on the track and it should play automatically.

Yeap....I have selected tracks from some really classic films, (the best overall album IMO is King Arthur or Crimson Tide) but whilst having them all in my own gramaphone folder, I had to be more selective in what I put into the release packs for space limitation purposes.

I am currently sifting through all my German military music, but am at a bit of a loss because I'm not sure which one's are banned and which one's are allowable. :hmm:

Alternatively double click on the track and it should play automatically.

I'll double check the sound settings when next I open SH3. Perhaps GWX defaults to turning the music off and I didn't notice. I can't play the tracks on my computer as I have no ogg player and have no interest in downloading yet another music player. Thanks for the help!

No problem, I fully understand.

If you only want the one music player that'll play everything, try VLC

I downloaded the first of those, and looked at them only to find I already have them! If nobody has put them on FileFront in the next couple of days I'll do it.

On the other hand, I still have a copy of my favorite, the German Hits series. For my own use I converted them to .wav files, and then somehow managed to dump the .ogg files.:damn:

I'm busy converting them back to .ogg format. When I'm done I'll put them all up on FileFront and post it here. You'll be amazed at some of the stuff on there, going all the way back to 1912.

Hard to describe really :hmm:

Something that has a sea theme I suppose.

Having said that, if you've downloaded the previous six volumes, you'll find classical as well as movie tracks that are totally unrelated to the sea.

Something that's pleasing to the ear....but none of that modern day heavy metal crap

Mittelwaechter

Nice selection Jimbuna. Pulled a lot from it.

Request foe anyone: Does anyone have the gramaphone files for "bless them all-(the George Fomby edition)", "Siegfried line-(english chorus version-different then in Jim's pack)", or "we'll meet again--(vera lynn version with male chorus at the end--possible earlier version then the 40" version in Jim's pack)"?? If so could you send them to me or possibly post a link??

I use to have them installed & think I might have got them from a earlier gramaphone pack that might have been on Terrapin's old site (not sure).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thks, Snafu

Your song query has already been answered by Mittelwaechter....I'm sorry but I don't know the date. It's obviously between 1939 and 1945 though.

The song is already included in link 7.

FF has a nasty habit of deleting files without warning. 'Fingers crossed' I haven't had anything deleted for over 3 month now.

The only advice I can give you is....even without an automated warning, youe account page displays a 7 day warning period prior to deletion. Check your account status at least once per week.

Oh! just remembered.....I have more Charlie and His Orchestra tracks lined up for link 8 http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

One final word.

You guys, do a good work, don't get me wrong. But, your instructions are somewhat vague.

It took some looking but I finally figured out what the problem was.

I downloaded all 6 .rar files.

Unzipped them.

Then moved them into the gramaphone folder.

Wrong!

I ran into this problem once before.

You should include in your instructions that you need to unlock them to a folder. Then open each folder and highlight each song, and move them to the gramaphone folder.

What I was experiencing was what is called an "outer folder problem."

After highlighting each song in each folder and moving them, they work fine.

Just remember this.

Thought it might help.

Don't forget the pack 1, songs 460 & 537 are a must !

But I know you have not a big connection to download all and I give you this 2 songs in one zip:
http://files.filefront.com/SH3+Gramo+ZL+01zip/;12371957;/fileinfo.html
Be fast to download because FileFront is sometime very nervous about my uploads lol.
:)

To Jim: I have no request, just I like to discover something new in your files. Only one think is important for me: the songs must be from de war years or before. For exemple, "Milord" by Edith Piaf has been created in the 50' and it has been rejected from my personnal gramaphone. Total immersion at first.

Ive been away for some time but I see so many fantastic things here again... Ive installed GWX now together with some other mods and again im a total addict to SH3 again :)

Since a long time I have built my own soundtrack for SH3 and it mainly consists of music that is made long after ww2.
Some of the songs I particulary like are Dave Drubeck (Take 5), some good classical music like Gregorio Allegri - Miserere (Psalm 51) and a selection of some movie music from Thomas Newman or James Newton Howard.

If this music does not ring a bell I recommend you try and find some of it out there on the internet or your local shop! :D

Hey there themrwho,

The disadvantage of playing at a high TC is that, above a certain level, too many potential dangers become fatal events before you have time to take what might be a life-saving evasive or preventive action.

Granted, the game (if left unmodded in this respect) will typically drop out of high TC if something like that occurs - however in another thread I think we figured out that at 1024 TC, 1 second of your playing time equals about 17 minutes in the life of your kaleun and his crew. And the passing of time in-game does not stop when such an event occurs; it only drops from one level of TC to another. In the time it takes for that to happen, valuable reaction time can be lost.

For instance, if you are playing at 1024 TC and an enemy plane is spotted, the game will drop you back to 1 TC. However, if it takes even half a second for that to happen, your boat has already spent 8 minutes chugging merrily along doing nothing to evade or defend itself against this threat. Meanwhile the enemy plane, which takes its orders from the game's AI and not you, is free to close in on your boat and fire away and can do so with no problems at whatever TC is in effect.

Same deal with sighting an enemy destroyer; if they also spotted you, they've had 8 minutes to close range and attack before you even knew they were there.

And don't even get me started on mines - hitting a mine at high TC is pretty much a death sentence because even if the initial damage wasn't fatal (and there's always a small chance it wasn't), so much time elapses so quickly afterwards with no damage control being done that before you even know something happened you'll be looking at an "Oh hai, ur dead" screen and scratching your head trying to figure out how you got that way.

In periods of low visibility collision with other ships can also be a problem.

General consensus seems to be that bad things tend to become fatal events way too quickly to manage at anything over 128 TC, especially if you are anywhere within range of enemy aircraft, in an area where heavy ocean-going traffic of any kind is likely, or in an area likely to have been mined.

CherryHarbey

@CherryHarbey,

Thanks

Never go above TC128 now and as a previous TC1024 junkie it has made a world of difference.
Now this isn't much of a sample size i know but
TC1024 me got spotted by 3 aircraft on one patrol, all 3 managed to get minor hits on me with bombs despite me crash diving and changing course instantly (or at least as soon the game gave me the chance.
TC128 me has since spotted 2 aircraft and dived away before they got close enough to drop anything on me.
the other thing that has changed dramatically for me is
when visibility is poor I have been perodically dropping to periscope depth for listen on the hydrophones. since doing this I haven't had a single "ship spotted, short range" "we're under attack, sir" where destroyers were killing me on regular basis in the past.

Depends what you want out of the game, lower TC takes more time obviously and reduces your thrills per hour but increases (for me at least) your survival chances no end and I take a lot from that.

I'm far from being an expert and apologies if anything I've said is too obvious, just thought I'd share what advice I've taken and has worked for me.

A lot of this stuff is not obvious at all until experience gives you a reason to start asking about it and you find out what others know that you hadn't figured out yet. If the question's being asked, chances are the answer's not too obvious to merit a discussion.

had another thought whilst eating my tea....
Using SH3 Commander (which is a must have mod) I've changed the game's reaction to detecting any enemy ship, default I believe is bring down to TC8, I've changed to TC1, so if I do get surprised, my thinking time isn't at TC8.

Never go above TC128 (for me at least) your survival chances no end and I take a lot from that.

Good decision Kaleun http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

That is the magic number with regard to aircraft spawnings....any higher and the odds are reduced greatly.

I did the same thing. I want an immediate drop back to 1 TC if there's any enemy craft within visual range. :yep:

First off a great big thank you to Jim et al for the great tunes, slotted them into my Date/Sound/Gramaphone folders in SH3C and it works a treat

I have also found approx 2.3GB of radio broadcasts (starting in about 1932 but with tons for the war years) that I found really add great depth when mixed in with the music in the appropriate Date/Sound/Gramaphone folders so long as you match the date of broadcast (easy, the files are named by date first!) to the "date" of the SH3C folders.

In other words, don't just bung em any old where as then you hear about the Japanese surrender in October 1939 etc etc.

If anyone is interested in the war years ones let me know and I will prune through them and upload to filefront or similar :DL

Stokey

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the broadcasts are mainly BBC and CBS but with some German, French and Italian reports as well.

2nd EDIT: Okay, for anyone interested, click the link in my sig for the files for 1939 and 1940 - I will do the rest if there is any interest :)

:rock:Will do!

I have one question for you both (and anyone else interested) - would you prefer the original files as in my sig, or would you prefer me to split them and make the "date" folders with one in each ready to just drop into your SH3C C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander\Date folder?

It would be easier for you guys if I did that I am guessing but it involves joining those reports with the same date (or faking a day before/after if it is a quiet month and it doesn't matter historically) and then rar/7zip-ing them so would take a little while longer...

I will get on it tonight after work either way :salute:

That would be great...

Most people would probably use them in Commander format, so if you're willing to set them up that way, so much the better. For those wondering, I've already downloaded the first two and they're a really good collection.

Thanks again for sharing the files. I've been looking for a set like this for the last while and you've really saved me quite a bit of time and effort. Greatly appreciate it, and congrats on making the grade!
