Have you got map contacts update turned off? They should be there regardless of what version of sHIII you use.

Yeah those do come in handy in big ongoing battles in shallow water.
Contacts of yea... no gods eye view of map... only using F12 :)

They work fine for me...the majority of the time. On an occasion or two I've gotten the "she's going down" announcement and credit for the kill in the patrol report, but no sunken ship icon. Conversely, I've gotten the sunken ship icon, but no credit. Go figure! :shifty:
Yeah, same here. Had two confirmed convoy kills last patrol that didn't show up on the map.

If anyone sees this again could you confirm which ship it is?
As it seems random, it's hard to trouble shoot.
If it's always the same ships, it would be much easier to ID
the problem.
Thanks.

- Troop Transport 6802t NO Icon
- Modern Tanker 10920t NO Icon
- Revenge Class 31000t NO Icon
Oct 13 1939 AN13
- Large Merchant 10891t RED Icon
Oct 16 AM52 convoy
- 2 Ore Carrier 7562t and 7559t, got one RED one GREY icon, not sure which was which
- 2 Large Merchant 8362t and 8362t, RED Icons

This has happened for me too, when there wasn't visual contact with the ship, when it's reported sunk. Meaning having the periscope up means icon, being at depth means no icon. And I don't even play with GWX2. So I don't think it's GWX2 related.

I guess you didnt have any visual contact in Scapa ?
I sank 6 in there the other day
All showed up except the carrier as I had the scope down and was moving away

OK,
Report as :
Which ship sunk.
Visual or no.
Icon or no.
that would narrow it further.
Thanks again

If you mean visual on the ship at the time you get the sinking message, then I never have a visual (periscope or surfaced view), on any ship I've sunk. My modus operandi is to attack submerged, fire the torp(s), down scope, and exit the firing area before the destroyers find me (I'm a very cautious kaleun!). Specifically for Scapa (where I got no icons), I set the torps to slow so I'd have more time to maneuver to lessen the chance of the 2 destroyers finding me. The three Scapa ships sunk there did take a long time to sink, but I was in the harbour the entire time submerged.
In Scapa the ships never completely submerged due to the shallow water, but I did get the 'She's going down' message for all three ships, and all three were credited properly both in my logbook, and after the patrol. One thing I will now mention is I did save, exit, and later reload when submerged in Scapa, and I know how that can cause havok in the game....I'm fairly sure I saved sometime after I fired at all the ships, had one confirmed sinking, and two damaged but unsunk ships remaining.
The rest of the ships were all in deep water, and tho they did take a fair amount of time to sink, I did get red icons for them, except the one Ore Carrier which was grey... but it was 15m/s winds and very stormy. Again, even tho I got the one grey icon I did receive credit for the sinking.
Sorry for the (over?) abundant detail, I hope it helps you narrow your search. I actually never even thought of it as a bug until i read this post. BTW GWX 2 prompted my return to SH3 (tho I still play SH4 too). Great job!

To use an old quote,
The Devil is in the details!!!
Believe me, details are CRITICAL when chaseing down ANY
weirdness!
Ask the GWX Beta testers!
Half the time they had NO CLUE what the Devs were chaseing down.
Orders were, go here, do this, give DETAILS!!!
Then the Dev's corrected.
You tell me a ship acted funny but I don't remember when or where?
All I can say is.....
It's a BIG FREAKING Ocean!!!!
(Game wise!)

This usually happens when a ship takes a long time to sink and your visual or hydrophone contact is allowed to "decay" enough. Thats why it's common in harbour attacks where your targets aren't moving at all. But recently I experienced this with a Empire state freighter that i finished off with the deck gun (clearly a visual contact). It was armed but had a heavy list to port and I attacked from the starboard where it was unable to point it's gun in my direction:D
I mean I never see the sunken ship Icons... I play without godseye.

I experienced the "no sunken ship icons" thing whilest playing tonight. I happened upon two Auxiliary Cruisers trailing behind a single DD escort on a NNW heading. I setup the shots carefully and got four eels off, all of which hit both ships within seconds of each other. I watched both ships go down within a few minutes of being hit, one sunk at 21:55, the other at 21:56 hours, both in Grid AM35 a few hundred meters from each other. I would provide more detail, but I don't know where to extract the data. Fortunately, the DD was so far out in front, by the time it reached the site of the sinking, I was deep and well south.
